Shut up about Cecil the Lion, please
Telegraph ^ | 7/30/15 | Rupert Myers

Posted on 07/30/2015 6:35:20 AM PDT by SoFloFreeper

The outrage over Cecil's death is absurd when you think of the other, bigger problems which people are happy to ignore

There is a new, pointless ride opening in town designed to give users an instant but ephemeral rush. It isn’t the slide down the ugly, unnecessary Olympic tower, but the convenient and free outrage bus currently stopping on your street and picking up passengers for Cecil, the beautiful dead lion.

Out of any and all proportion to the severity of his dreadful act of animal murder, the dentist who killed Cecil has become an international focal point of hate and anger. As wars are waged, women are raped, young men commit suicide, boats in the Mediterranean sink and desperate homeless migrants head for Calais, it’s Cecil who commands our hearts unwarranted levels of our attention.

The hunters on this forum who are defending this creep are doing nothing to help the image of the sport.

This guy knew he was hunting Cecil. He and his crew lured him out of a sanctuary and then killed him for no other reason than to make up for the fact that he has a microscopic penis.

If you keep defending him, the story will turn on going after all hunters rather than focusing on this creep.

What he did was indefensible.

Yet this story, fueled by a media frenzy surrounding it, has become big international news. I just don’t understand.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

It's a distraction. Deliberate and willful. The important questions, IMO, are "Who is distracting?" and "What are they hiding?"

This is a perfect example of what Rush was talking about.

A hand full of people can make it appear as if tens of thousands of people are responding to something.

This is designed to divert attention from PP because of Hillary’s support of PP.

When you say “we”, you mean the leftists, right? Those of us on the right can address both with equal disgust.

Absurd isn’t even strong enough. ISIS beheads Christians, Boko Haram rapes school girls, PP kills and harvests baby organs, Obama gives Iran an open invitation to nuke Israel and even America but let an American dentist shooting a lion in Zimbabwe and the world is outraged.

But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Matt. 24:37

Are we there yet? Can’t be far if not.

Exactly.

People can care about more than one thing at a time and even be riled up about more than one thing at a time.

I count it a good sign that people have even this much humaneness left that they care about anything so much. We live in such a jaded cynical age.

Yes, the media are milking it for all its worth and that is cynical, but that is a separate matter

The telegraph can KMA

Only a moron can whine about one evil being addressed because other evils have not been to their satisfaction. Humans with full cognitive capacity can perfectly well be pissed off over this jackwagon “hunter” *AND* concerned about the usual panoply of trouble, evil and injustice.

Me. Zachary the Zebra was turning his life around when Cecil had him over for dinner.

“I think anyone who would pay $55,000 to kill a single animal is a psychopath.”

I agree on this one. We hunt (bear, racoon, rabbit, deer, elk, mountain lion, pronghorn sheep) and fish for our own use and to sell the fur (raccoon, rabbit) but I’ll never understand killing endangered animals and big game in Africa, etc. We also raise a steer each year for meat, and will be raising hogs and I’ll have chickens again in the near future for eggs and roasting.

To me, THOSE jungle/desert animals are works of ART and should be left alone.

But, I guess to someone that has a pet rabbit, I’M the barbarian, LOL!

I dunno. It’s all in your perspective, I guess.

This is about the media’s double standard. And you know darned well most of these people acting so outraged don’t blink about murdered babies.

I disagree.
We need to protect, even laud, people getting out of their armchairs and protesting, which is our right. Even if we don’t agree with what they are protesting about.

Our right to assemble and protest is the bigger picture item most here are pleading that we focus on. Well, here it is. Our chance to see the bigger picture. At least people care about something.

Think of leftism as Religion, and it makes more sense. This (white)(male)(American)(dentist)(gun owner)(wealthy) person has sinned greatly and is subject to inquisition.

This is their substitute for righteousness.

I remember twenty five years or so ago when the Tulsa World had an article on a local man who went to Africa and legally shot a Lion.
The next few days, the Letters to the Editor was overwhelmed with hate letters.

About forty two years ago a magazine had an article about Chief Dan George who had shot a legal bison in the states. Again the hate letters came pouring in.

Ever wonder why shows on national TV like THE AMERICAN SPORTSMAN have died out? They went from big game hunting and fishing to upland game hunting and fishing to bicycling and fishing, then died out because of the viciousness of the anti-hunters. Same for Sports Afield magazine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_Afield

“In the late 1990s, the magazine entered the most difficult period in its long history. Hearst executives shifted the magazine’s focus from hunting and fishing to hiking, mountain biking, camping, and other “nonconsumptive” outdoor sports.”

The liberals on this forum who defend the MSM are doing nothing to help their credibility as conservatives. Liberals go after all hunters and gun owners all the time, and I really don’t give a rat’s a** what they think or say.

Babies ripped out of the womb and ripped to shreds, and sold off at a discount. Savages attacking innocent Whites on the streets of America. Savages throwing gays off roofs. Savages raping women. Savages crucifying Christians.
And the country is obsessed with the killing of a lion as a trophy. The “value system” of this country is all wrong.

Money is relative. At what dollar figure does this guy pass your psychopath threshold?

Without (costly) controlled hunting in Africa the poachers would wipe everything out. People paying huge amounts to hunt game is what funds the conservation efforts.

I don’t know if this guy knew anything about this particular lion, perhaps he did, but I doubt it. Could be he’s a victim of an unscrupulous PH, guide, and land owner.
