CNN/ORC poll: Trump elbows his way to the top
CNN ^ | July 26, 2015 | Jennifer Agiesta

(CNN)In the first national telephone poll since Donald Trump earned rebukes from Republican leaders over his comments about Senator John McCain's military service, the real estate mogul has increased his support among GOP voters and now stands atop the race for the party's nomination.

The new CNN/ORC Poll finds Trump at 18% support among Republicans, with former Florida governor Jeb Bush just behind at 15%, within the poll's margin of error.

They are joined at the top of the pack by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, with 10% support among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents who are registered to vote. Trump's backing has climbed 6 points since a late-June poll, while support for Bush and Walker has not changed significantly.

Never thought he was any different than you say. I picked illegals because they are our downfall above anything else you can put a real name to.

Right now what GOPe means to me up is enemy. More so than Democrats frankly.

I believe in the long-run he will wind up helping Cruz.

He sure will. By inviting him to run as his VP, which Ted will gladly accept.

Ted will then become President in 2024 after eight wonderful years of Donald cleansing the cockroaches out of DC.

I can and will vote for a man who espouses all of the points listed in that post.

trump is a bona fide liberal.

Which means his support among Democrats and Independents isn't zero. The media is only reporting his support among Republicans but his Democrat/Independent/Low Information Voter support is likely substantial and growing. Pollsters must know the numbers but no one is telling. It's a total news blackout, too terrifying to publish.

He flat out lied.
Gutless lying politician Rand Paul.
Thank you Mr. Trump for forcing their hands where I can see em’.

...and again, I’ve noticed something I hadn’t before - the word “comments” used without quote or context by the media to gin up false outrage. It’s everywhere I look now and to make it worse, the media falsely qualify the comments as “nasty”, “infuriating”, “bigoted”, “terrible” or however they choose to lie about the “comments”.

You and I are on the same track, I was merely trying to offer a new perspective about where the party stands at the moment. I think the play is bigger than just immigration.

“I think it’s going to be very important for most of the candidates to team up to attack Trump during the debates.”

They attack and he attacks back even harder.

And gains more votes.

It hasn’t worked so far.

“Candidates who support amnesty are far, far more of a threat.”

THANK YOU!

Exactly. I escaped Mexifornia and know firsthand how illegals, encouraged by liberals, can ruin a state.

I adore hearing English spoken when I go out, not needing to be bilingual to get a job, knowing my tax dollars are going to teach kids math not to teach them to speak English because their illegal parents have disdain for everything American except our handouts.

When the rest of the US becomes like the border states, we will have nowhere to escape to.

I'll preface my comments by saying that my first choice in this race is Cruz. But I also want someone who is electable and can win.

What exactly is Trump going to "destroy" that you refer to? The Republican Party? They haven't been effective or responsive to their base for years now. And that includes me. I don't think conservatives are falling for his "shtick", as you call it. These people are what used to be called the "silent majority" when I was younger. They're angry at the establishment politicians who lie and say one thing to get themselves elected and then when they get into office, they fold like a cheap suit. Right now you can't tell the difference between McConnell and Boner and the democRATS. My impression is that these folks don't care so much about his individual positions as they do about his positive message about making America great again. After Obama's "hope and "change" turned out to be such a dud, they're looking for a real inspirational leader, not an anti-American one.

Isn't the whole point to win? Trump wants to win and he's come off the starting line and grabbed the lead in the polls because he has that goal in mind. The rest of the field of candidates in this marathon of a primary, look and sound like they want to lose. They're all whining about Trump being in the lead and not following the RNC "rules". Unless they step up to the plate and make their presence known and start saying and doing something to garner some support, Trump could ride his hard-charging style right into the nomination.

People are all upset about his various politically incorrect comments, but so far that doesn't seem to have negatively affected his rising poll numbers. When he said what he did about McCain, his poll numbers went up. Why? Because many Republicans don't like McCain themselves, regardless of whether he was a former POW or not. He has been a lousy Republican senator over the years. He represents the democRAT position more often than he does the Republicans. And he was the most God-awful presidential candidate in 2008 against Obama. Many people blame him for helping Obama get elected by doing such a downright lousy job representing the Republican positions.

Just think if we have Jeb against Hillary in the general campaign. We're all screwed. But if it is Trump against Hillary in the general election campaign, Hillary will be screwed. I'm just sayin'....

He said he tries to do better when he realizes he sins.

Repenting is admitting you’ve done wrong AND changing the behavior. The latter is just as important. Only God knows our hearts. Sounds like you’re playing God here.

Yeah. If you read it on wiki, it must be inarguable.

Huh? All that page does is document every major poll for the entire GOP cycle, including CNN, Fox, Ipsos, PPP, Pew, Quinnipiac, etc.

Trump wants to end the illegals pouring across the border, build a wall. End sanctuary cities. End the trade deficits and bring jobs back to America. Renegotiate the bad trade deals with other countries so the deals favor America. End the crony capitalism that plagues Washington with the lobbyist system that is running congress. He is pro-life, pro-2nd amendment, pro-Israel and wants to rebuild the military. He wants to annihilate ISIS and stop Hilliary or any of the rinos from getting in the WH. He proposes free market user paid healthcare, lowering taxes across the board and stop deficit spending.

You say he is wrong on all the issues. That would make you a Democrat wouldn’t it?

I will vote 3rd party if it’s Jeb too. He and Hillary are one in the same. He’s as arrogant as they come and thinks because he is a Bush, then he is entitled to become the nominee. The libs will come out in droves to vote against another Bush.

We are hearing the same things from them that we heard 4 years ago...And 4 years before that...And before that...Like their ideas about open borders, amnesty, foreign aid to China and Iran are supposed to appeal to regular Americans...

Trump has put a massive road block right in front of them...Going to be interesting so see their attempts to get around the roadblock...
