Reports: Turkish Jets Hit IS Targets in Syria, Kurds in Iraq

There was no immediate official confirmation of the airstrikes reported by the state-run TRT television and other media. If confirmed, it would be the first time Turkey has struck Kurds in northern Iraq since a peace deal was announced in 2013 between Ankara and the rebel group, the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK.

The private Dogan news agency said the Turkish jets were targeting PKK training facilities, shelters and anti-aircraft batteries in northern Iraq.

Tensions have flared with Kurds in recent days after an IS suicide bombing in the southeastern Turkish city of Suruc on Monday killed 32 people. Kurdish groups blame the Turkish government for not combatting IS.

On Wednesday, the PKK claimed responsibility for the killing of two Turkish policemen near the Kurdish majority city of Sanliurfa, near the Syrian border.

...

Turkey started attacking IS positions after the suicide bombing and an IS ambush that killed a Turkish soldier.

Bullcrap. The Turkish “bombing” of the Islamic State positions is likely an (intentional) ineffective pinprick. The Turks’ real target is the Kurds...the Turks are pissed that the Kurds are making progress against the Turkish friends known as the Islamic State.

Obama supports this war against the Kurds IMHO.

We should NOT be letting Islamic Turkey attack Kurds.

Obama is on a roll...betraying Israel and the Kurds in one week. What is our toothless Congress going to do about him?...

Yep. There’s some folks to whom we should be providing MANPADS!

Why is Turkey bombing the Kurds in Iraq?

The Kurds want (and IMHO, deserve) and indpendent homeland. Unfortunately, some Kurds want that homeland to include the eastern part of present-day Turkey.

So here's what we've got.

The Kurds hate ISIS.
The Turks hate the Kurds.
The Turks are reluctant to hit ISIS, because ISIS is fighting the Kurds.
The US should be supporting the Kurds. But that would offend NATO ally Turkey.

Obama's solution: Don't offend the Turks. Let the Kurds, and the Christian minorities in the area, fend as best they can against ISIS. Go golfing.

Seems pretty clear you’re correct. The Turks have minor beefs with IS and big, historic hatred of Kurds. Such are our “friends”.

What’s happening is that the Kurds are gaining the upper hand in the border regions between Turkey and the areas (previously) controlled by the Islamic State (IS). Once that process would be completely accomplished by the Kurds, then the LUCRATIVE sale of oil by the IS at bargain basement prices to Turks (with Turkish government connections/approval) would largely come to an end. Ending with that trade would be the huge profits being realized by the Turks and a major means of financing for the IS. It also closes the easiest manner that new IS recruits can enter IS territory. All these consequences are bad from the perspective of the Muslim Brotherhood infiltrated/infested Obama regime leadership.

We should expel Turkey from NATO and swap them with the Kurds.

The Turks are more concerned with attacking the Kurds than they are ISIS. Their own Kurdish minority is lucky to still be alive. If they could get away with it they would do to them what they did to Armenians. They do not want an independent Kurdistan which would take chunks of Syria, Iraq, Iran and Turkey. It should have always been there, but the French and British carved up the remains of the Ottoman empire into the states we have today in that region.
