(CNN)Anger over Sandra Bland's death in a Texas jail has boiled over after newly released video showed what happened at the traffic stop that led to her arrest.
Now, many question whether she should have been arrested at all.
The dashcam video shows Texas state Trooper Brian Encinia pulling Bland over July 10 for allegedly failing to use her turn signal. What started as normal conversation gets testy after Encinia asks her to put out her cigarette.

She is the one who clearly wanted to escalate it, and that is exactly what she did when she started speaking to him in an angry manner.
And yes, he was the boss, and he had the authority. That’s the way it works.
LOL! So when they pull over their commanding officers wife or mayor, they treat them all the same right?
Ya think anyone believes that?
Well, I am anyone who watched the video, and I don’t think he was arrogant.
I think she was arrogant.
Who's supposed to be the professional here?
This was a non-threatening lone female traffic infraction stop. This became inordinately clear to this cop very quickly. He didn't handle it right. There was no discretion used here. This didn't need to happen. This cop wouldn't recognize common sense discretion if it hit him broadside on Interstate 10.
He clearly wanted to escalate this and that's exactly what he got.
He's supposed to be the professional who interacts with public, who is supposed to recognize what is a threat and what is not? No? He had no intention of doing any of that.
Raise the property taxes in Texas to pay up for this upcoming massive lawsuits....
Get your wallets out.
Because I’m a born in bred Texan, which is how I know. Yes, we, Texans hate illegal authority, but we also believe in respect for legal authority. This cop was exercising the legal authority granted to him by Texas and the lady thought she was privileged and didn’t need to abide by TX laws. We will side with the cop in that instance every time since he did NOT violate our laws and she did. We hate people that think they can come to Texas and defy our laws and are so arrogant that they believe they can be disrespectful to everyone here.
You don’t have to answer or you can lie, but any consequences to your decision are your own fault.
So when they pull over their commanding officers wife or mayor, they treat them all the same right?
Ya think anyone believes that?
Where ya go?
It is easy to arm-chair quarterback the cop. At the time, her hostility made her a perceived threat to the cop. Also she had to do was comply with his lawful orders and it would be over. She chose to defy his authority and violate the law so she was wrong. That simple.
She should have handled things differently.
After giving careful consideration of your very in depth argument, I surrender my argument to you. You're right, this female who was without a doubt guilty of an illegal lane change was deserving of losing her life in jail.........
I bow down to you Chris and commend you for your debating prowess..........
Big talkers like you are why cops approach situations like this with such caution.
You apparently have no clue about the force continuum, but nice try. Once he ordered her out of the vehicle and she refused, her passive aggressiveness warranted the use of the taser per TX law and most department policies. That is well within the standard protocols for use of force guidelines.
Also, keep in mind, most cops out shoot and out train most civilians so I dare you to try and shoot a cop as your clearly implying. See how that works out for you!
Your question is not relevant. What is a relevant question is who is the one who escalated it, and the answer to that question is her.
But I will answer your irrelevant question just for kicks and giggles. He was professional. I don't see anything wrong in what he did. She is the one who behaved like a complete ass.
Furthermore, I do not see why Texas municipalities or taxpayers should be on the hook for her decision to kill herself at all.
What's the limit of that so called authority TX or is there any? In this case, it's apparent there isn't any............
I said they treat them all the same regardless of color...so yes, the cop may let his commanding officer go with a warning for a traffic violation, but the cop would do that for a white or black CO.
He did not violate the law so her family can’t sue the State or the Department so no need to raise any taxes. Texas isn’t a p#ssy State that rewards criminals like this lady. Again, you apparently know nothing about TX.
Apparently that is what she thought too, and so she killed herself.
Go figure.
When you stop them for minor traffic violations, people get irritated. Then, when you start on a arrogant power trip, people get angry.
If the police want the support of their city, they need to tone down the attitude, and quit stopping people for minor infractions.
A little detective work goes a long way in catching criminals. You don’t need to harrass the rest of the public while catching a few via minor traffic violations.
So you're saying she would have ended up found dead in that same jail cell anyway, when she was found there, even without the traffic stop.
...and this after upthread being called out on the phrase that her family was planning on paying the bail the day after she died.
It looks like you're getting pretty wound up here. How come?
The limit is spelled out in the law. Any order that doesn’t violate specified Civil Rights and doesn’t otherwise violate another State or Federal law is considered a lawful order. That is the limit of his authority. He did not ask her to do anything that is prohibited by law so his requests were lawful orders. She was required by law to comply even if she didn’t agree with it or like it.
She sounded like a lawyer on the initial discussion. He did not like that, and asked her why she was angry or hostile. She then answered in a reasonable tone of voice. He did not like her answer, wanted her to kiss his boots. He escalated.
He is wound up because he is a cop.
