He may not have a shot at becoming president, but Donald Trump has already succeeded in uniting America — one nation, awash in snark. Pundits from the left and the right have declared open season on the Donald. As longtime Democratic strategist Paul Begala told The Washington Post, “I am a person of faith — and the Donald’s entry into this race can only be attributed to the fact that the good Lord is a Democrat with a sense of humor.” Or, as conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer said on Fox News: “This is the strongest field of Republican candidates in 35 years. You could pick a dozen of them at random and have the strongest Cabinet America’s had in our lifetime, and instead all of our time is spent discussing this rodeo clown.”
But writing Trump off is dangerous. The billionaire may play the buffoon, but he is an important one — one whom Americans appear to adore. A USA Today-Suffolk University poll released Tuesday shows him leading all Republican presidential hopefuls. And while establishment candidates in both parties might want to ignore him, or express a milder version of his anti-immigration opinions, an enormous number of voters clearly like his views. Pretending they don’t allows Trump and other immigration firebrands, such as Rick Santorum and Ted Cruz, to resuscitate a century-old nativism that could stick around beyond this election...

IIRC, Eagle Scout in the BSA or the Girl Scout Gold Award or the Billy Mitchell Award in the Civil Air patrol gets one a promotion to E-3, rather than E-1 when enlisting in the service.

Media attacks actually work in his favor as they help to get his message past the media filters. The media think they are hurting him while average people are saying, yep.
Other candidates are shouting from the bottom of the well and no one can hear them; Trump is blasting right over the tops of the media and people are agreeing with him.
And that includes the McCain tempest in a teapot. McCain is deeply disliked by people who pay attention.
Was it legal to get student deferment? Did Trump do anything illegal? Was Trump in favor of the stupidest war this country ever fought...Vietnam....50,000 brave soldiers dead, hundreds of thousands injured, and national debt took a quantum jump. What do we have to show for it? Vietnam run by communists?

Okay, well, there is no question Trump has brought a lot of issues out into the open that a lot of people would like to stay suppressed. At this extremely early point in the ‘16 election, I think most people would think that’s a good thing. Who are you supporting, and what are they bringing to the national dialogue?
In the late 60s, there was a cry that a disproportionate number of black males were being drafted/sent to Vietnam but that was because they did not go to college.
