Lots of Donald Trumps Republican presidential candidates have already shredded him for his comments about John McCain, but Rick Perry came out swinging by calling for Trump to basically GTFO.
In case you missed it, the draft-defering Trump attacked McCain today over his war hero status because, Hes a war hero cause he was captured. I like people that werent captured.
Now, for some unbelievable reason, lots of conservatives including the aforementioned candidates thought Trump crossed a line.
Perry was the first to release a statement on The Donalds latest rambling, this one really going for the jugular (emphasis his):
Donald Trump should apologize immediately for attacking Senator McCain and all veterans who have protected and served our country. As a veteran and an American, I respect Sen. McCain because he volunteered to serve his country. I cannot say the same of Mr. Trump. His comments have reached a new low in American politics. His attack on veterans make him unfit to be Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces, and he should immediately withdraw from the race for President.
For the record, when Trump was asked if he plans to apologize, he said no.
And I think McCain calling all the Arizonans who chose to come to Trump's event "crazies" was insulting as heck. The other candidates should be slamming McCain for that, insulting Republican voters.
But Trump needs to reign in some of his shots at other politicians. Still, McCain is not very well liked by many Repubican voters and many veterans despise him for how he sold out the POW/MIAs during the early '90s hearings he co-chaired with Lurch Kerry.
I think Perry is hitting the wrong note with most thingsd he's been saying so far.
Quote me what he actually said and then defend it.
Hes a war hero cause he was captured. I like people that werent captured.
Sounds like something Patton would say.
“I don’t want you to die for you country. I want the other bastard to die for his country.”
Indeed. He might have been aiming at John McCain but he hit all POWs. I don’t care about McCain’s feelings. I do, however, care very much about our POWs.
Did you even read the quote? He insulted all POWs, whether intentional or not.
He’s done.
Perry might as well run off the rails early and save his backers some campaign cash. He wasn’t ready this time, and look at the people he’s hired to run his campaign this time around.

Perry has lost it. He needs to see a shrink.
Wonder if Perry got upset when McCain met with ISIS leaders and supported funding for ISIS in Syria?
Re Trump: “Political chameleon... changed over the years... but I like what he’s saying.”
Agree 100%, but why isn’t anyone else beating that drum? It needs to be pounded, loud and clear.
Trump is being called a demagogue for what he’s saying. He’s bombastic, but the content is right on point. Compared to the racist, Marxist, defeatist, pro-Islamist crap that spews out of the D-Party every day, Trump is actually kind of mild.
In Jump School my Cadre Platoon Sergeant called the Purple Heart “The Slow Man’s Badge” and urged us to avoid getting one pinned on us.
Was that really an insult to all active duty and veterans, or even all wounded in action? Was he unfit to lead us because of it?
(By the way, He had a Silver Star, and Bronze star with three oak leaf clusters, so he was no silly REMF blusterer.)
Trump 45 mins ago:
I am not a fan John McCain because he has done so little for our Veterans and he should know better than anybody what the Veterans need, especially in regards to the VA. He is yet another all talk, no action politician who spends too much time on television and not enough time doing his job and helping the Vets. He is also allowing our military to decrease substantially in size and strength, something which should never be allowed to happen.
Furthermore, he was extremely disrespectful to the thousands upon thousands of people, many of whom happen to be his constituents, that came to listen to me speak about illegal immigration in Phoenix last week by calling them “crazies”.
These were not “crazies”-—these were great American citizens.
I have great respect for all those who serve in our military including those that weren’t captured and are also heroes.
I want to strengthen our military and take care of our Veterans. I want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN especially for those that serve to protect our freedom. I am fighting for our Veterans!
I like his intent...which was to tear down John McCain. I support it 100 percent. His comment was directed at John McCain. If he offended someone else in the process he deserves a pass. Even they are a POW.
His political convictions is mainly “common sense”. He’s a pragmatist. He sees a problem and uses common sense to solve it - sometimes you’ll agree with him sometimes you won’t. The real question is does he have what one would consider traditional american values? Does he believe in freedom with responsibility? Does he trust free enterprise? Does he want America to be #1? 1000 times more than the current resident.
Is there a politician you trust 100%?
He’s not my first choice (Cruz is), but he’s in the top three right now.
I do agree, but Trump has to make the attempt. I see no way for him to survive this.
It’s too bad, he was talking about many things that every one of us have been shouting from the Rooftops for years.
Now all of that will fall by the wayside.
You know what they say, easy come, easy go.
The Liberals will be demanding that the other Republicans pile on, and they will. You will notice that whenever a Democrat says something inane, their Party is never called on the Carpet to repudiate them.
Such is the way of the world we live in.
Go home, Rick.
You had your chance.
if
“I see no way for him to survive this.”
If I had a nickel for every time I heard someone say this about DT in the past few decades, I’d be as rich as him.
/chicken little mode off.
Sounds like wishful thinking.
Yes, I read the quote and correctly put it in perspective in my responses in this thread #60 & #88. There is no way that anyone with any understanding of the context of the exchanges, will interpret it as you suggest.
Why would anyone, whether bluntly as Trump chose to do, or with a somewhat more refined way of making the essential point--that McCain has long since over-played the victim role, while betraying the American future, to cater to people like Lindsey Graham & Karl Rove; and deserves to be told off.
I haven't selected a candidate, personally, but Trump & Cruz, in my opinion, are the only ones so far, who have recognized and discussed the really essential issues. McCain, Graham & Jeb Bush, on the other hand, have crossed a line--not because they insult us, but because they have not addressed the essential issues--which renders them unfit to serve.
Again, as I pointed out in #60: The immediate military issue, is the unconscionable Obama policy; that even after repeated threats & warnings, he has our young men at arms serving as targets in "gun free zones." If you care about the military, forget the umbrage over play-ground level exchanges, and focus on that ongoing danger from repeated attacks such as that of the other day. If that is not 1000 times more serious than Trump insulting McCain, who has been insulting many of us for the past decade, just how would you rank it?
William Flax
I am not sure why Trump brought McCain into this at all. Does Trump think McCain is running for President again? There must be some reason for him to attack McCain and not the other candidates.
