On July 17–the day after Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez allegedly opened fire on a recruiting center and then a reserve center, gunning down four US Marines–Fox News’ Juan Williams said he is “baffled” by the push to end gun free zones in military recruiting centers.
He said the center which was targeted is in a “strip mall” and that changing the gun-free policy would mean people would be walking around with guns, which could lead to “workplace violence.” He also suggested it could create a situation where a simple “dispute in the parking lot” could escalate into armed confrontation.
Fox News’ Martha MacCallum countered Williams by pointing out that this was a military recruiting center–regardless of where it was located–and that it why it was targeted.

With that logic, then the Secret Service shouldn’t be armed either. After all, the WH is a workplace. (sort of). I heard someone say it’s because the military is a federal entity. Well, so is the WH, Congress, the Supreme Court, the Pentagon, etc. I don’t see any difference.

One time at a FReep at the WH during the Clinton years, a woman lib was very vocal and negative about guns, and the 2nd amendment, and was giving us a hard time about it. I guess that FReep was about the 2nd amendment, and we may have had posters about it— drawing her attention. We asked her if she felt safe about where she was at that moment, and she said yes. We then pointed out all the armed people in the area—— the snipers on top of the WH, the DC police who were in the area, the Secret Service and armed guards at the WH gate, and so on. The woman shut up.
