Where do we find such men?
That memorable line comes from James Mitchners Korean War novel, The Bridges of Toko-Ri. It refers to intrepid aviators lifting from a carrier, flying into untold danger. They know they may not return. They launch anyway. In boldness unfathomable to many, they willingly, artfully fly into peril. They are warriors, men of rare talent, intellect, and courage a combination essential for victory.
Needed warriors are now being purged from the U.S. military. If America went to war right now with China or Russia, we could lose because of these purges. Were losing top-level warrior-leaders to make the crucial differences in battle. Theyre being systematically drummed out as politically incorrect. When the going gets tough, political correctness (PC) is useless. Then the brilliant, wily fighters, the coolest heads, the most courageous warriors, are needed to lead regardless of social views or record.
Today, in large measure, our fighting forces are led by briefcase-carrying busybodies, yes-men more interested in enforcing political beliefs and social change than leading in battle. They care more about their careers than whats happening to the military and thus the country. Just last week, a new downsizing of the army was announced without a protest.
Warriors are not prized. They are criticized and ridiculed. Up-and-coming warriors who admire the purged want to emulate them, see whats happening, and are exiting as a result.
Soldiers like George Patton or Curtis LeMay are no longer wanted, writes LCOL Greg Lee, USMC (ret.) in a well-circulated internet forward. The fundamental job of the military, kill bad people and break things, has become critically hampered by rules of engagement [and policies] whos [sic] guiding logic is political outcome, not successful combat.

This is the way it has always been for the US Military, up and down. Anyone who has studied our Military History knows this. Unfortunately the hard lessons we learned in WWII have been lost as the generations have passed.
In 1942 the prewar US Army and Navy was hampered by poor equipment and leadership, languishing due to a peace dividend. This Army and Navy was sacrificed in the places like the Philippines, Guadalcanal and North Africa.
By 1944 most of the old Army and Navy was gone and a new generation of weapons and leadership came forth creating a combat power that the world had not seen before.
The campaigns of late 1944 and 1945 were brutal and losses were very high but eventually we learned.
The US has always had very strong isolationist tendencies and even during WWII this constituted a very strong minority. Modern history instruction glosses over this.
Today 70 years later the isolationists are now in the majority and many of our people actively scorn those who serve. The so called Police Actions over the last 70 years have not helped and our population has forgotten what a war of annihilation is like. The world has not.
The upshot is the because of the extremely poor political leadership, of which Obama is but a symptom not the cause, our enemys will miscalculate and start something that will quickly grow into another war of annihilation. The current Army, Navy and Air force will be decimated and a new generation of young people will have to step in and fight.
There is an old Russian saying feed your army or someone elses.
Their standing army is 2.2 million with 500k in reserve. China’s problem is logistics and their hardware. They might goose step real pretty like in formation but their troops are not seasoned and have not been blood let in quite some time.
Until the USA military becomes less effective as a fighting force than a pack of Brownies, the purge will continue..
During Nam when I was in USAF boot camp we learned to apply makeup..we were never taught to fire a gun..that was a job for the men..they were going off to Vietnam to guard the planes and work on them..
40 years later women have advanced to the frontlines
and go off to shoot and be shot along with men...is it progress ???
At one time soldiers were mostly virile and aggressive on the battlefield, hard determined men of action and courage..
What went first ??? societies affirmation that men are brave or that men act with fierceness in battle ???
Women can be brave too but there is something inborn in men and planted there by God which causes a man to fight to protect home and hearth in battle..that something is developed and grows under the tutelage of masculine fathers and an expectant society..
Unfortunately, in a modern war, we will not have that much time to rebuild a military that can fight effectively. When Obama is finished, he will have left the US open to conquest or destruction which fits nicely with his plan to advance Islam’s conquest over the West, especially Jews and Christians.
It is up to us, those in the Military during the late 70s and early 80s, when things were very bad, a result of the Vietnam Hangover, who know how low we can go, to spread the word to save as many of this new generation as possible.
Hug your grandkids they will be the ones sacrificed at the altar of Political Correctness.
What kind of person would volunteer to serve under this CIC? I shudder to think.
It's being twisted into ... "Me, mascara, self" ... but don't tell anybody.
Too many have allowed government to tell them what the Constitution they were taking the oath to defend actually means.
When government can control the meaning, it can control what it means. Having people take an oath should be an independent check on government.
That is not how wars of annihilation work. Everyone thinks they will be short, but they last for a long time.
Look at Syria, the Syrian Army has been reduced to creating rockets- out of sewer pipe or 55 gal drums rolled out of helicopters. Yet the killing goes on.
Wise lady. You speak the truth.
That little known fact is exactly correct. After MacArthur's success at Inchon the commies in the US and the UN made spying on the US Armed Forces a top priority. Only when things were happening so quickly on the battlefield that DC was left out of the loop did US Armed Forces start to have real success.
“Lincoln had no problem with finding people like that, at all.”
Your statement hit me like a ton of bricks.
I guess you’re right. A little embarrassing, but I never looked at it that way.
Very few civilians were deliberately killed by either side in the civil war.
In the long run there are only two possibilities for world peace; a) have the US maintain a high standard of living and have the world fear our combat power, or b) reduce our standard of living to the point the world has no interest in us.
Today the Political Correctness crowd wants the US to be loved around the world. This is not possible without reducing the US to a third world $hithole, which seems to be Obamas endpoint or option b.
I am coming around to the view that Obama seeks to provoke a violent confrontation with conservative America before he leaves office. His spiteful, vindictive, in-your-face actions get more destructive every day. And all of the world leaders that he admires imprison and/or execute their political foes. His purge of the military is critical to securing his gains, and was probably planned long before he ever ran for president. Possibly it was planned before his leftist handlers even knew Obama would be The One.
I am sorry but you are mistaken. During our Civil War, Grant introduced as express policy the concept of Total War against the South. He argued at the time that killing southern civilians either directly though firepower or indirectly though starvation was the most humane way to end the war. This is very clearly discussed in Shermans letters and his own inner conflicts with this policy.
I hope and pray you know what you’re talking about.
“Very few civilians were deliberately killed by either side in the civil war.”
During the Civil War, when the Federal troops came in and declared marital law, the death penalty was handed out generously, to civilians. For example, they would proclaim that helping Confederate troops was punishable by death. So, at night, some Feds would ride up to a house and tell the inhabitants they were Confederates and needed food. If they were supplied food, the men were taken out and executed. The South was completely destroyed by Federal troops. No one knows how many thousands of civilians were murdered. “Beast Butler” of New Orleans was a good example of the type of military dictatorships that ruled.
That’s a very concise, well written post.
And thank you for your service to the Air Force and our country.
I do not think this is the deliberate aim of Obama, only a bonus. He like his fellow travelers want to be loved and admired around the world so he is intent reducing the US to a third world $hithole in the interest of fairness. Then using liberal logic then the world will love him and us.
Of course in reality the world will despise us for squandering our birthright.
