Donald Trump Unloads on Immigration Critics: ‘The United States Has Become a Dumping Ground’

NEW YORK (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stood firm Monday on his description of Mexican immigrants as criminals.

The businessman, under fire from critics in and out of his party, issued a lengthy statement refusing to back off comments he made in the speech launching his presidential bid last month. In it, he called Mexican immigrant criminals and rapists, prompting several businesses, including NBC, Univision and Macy’s, to cut ties with Trump.

In his new statement, Trump said “the Mexican government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States” and claimed that in many cases, they are “criminals, drug dealers, rapists, etc.”

He said later Monday, during a charity golf tournament at one of his courses, that his standing in some polls is proof that many Americans share his views.

“I think the polls are a testament,” said Trump, one of more than a dozen Republicans running for president. “In the old days, they used to use a term, `the silent majority.’ We have the silent majority back, folks.”

Polls this early in the race tend to reflect name recognition more than depth of support for a candidate and few in the GOP regard Trump, a well-known TV figure, as a serious presidential contender despite poll standings that may be good enough to qualify him to be in the first GOP debate. Debate guidelines provide for the top 10 candidates in national polling to participate.

One major brand that has not cut ties with Trump is the New York Yankees. The team’s co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner, who organized the charity golf tournament at Trump’s new course in the Bronx, said the real estate developer is “a loyal friend and I am loyal to my friends.”

Don’t forget history. The original deposit of criminals dumped in Georgia and the Carolina s.
Most were from debtor prison iirc. But also the lowest at that time.
Otoh no drug mules etc to further infect communities

And don’t forget the gang members and the narco-cartels in the mix too.

So tell me, what is so wrong with Trump’s statement on ILLEGAL immigration?

Absolute pity that the most bombastic, flawed and unelectable candidate is the one that is raising this critically important issue. The Democratic Party has incorporated the Marxist tenet of one /world no borders. Obama has refused to enforce immigration laws, secure the border or even deport convicted felons. This is an important and defining issue that must be front and center in the 2016 elections. Having Trump in the lead on this critical issue blunts the message.

By the way, after ICE did that sweep, the crime rate in my area dropped like a stone.

Sorry but I have more A LOT more respect for the Cuban culture. Many have done very well here in the United States, they love freedom, hate communism and are conservatives. Their food is healthier too.

The Mexican Government is encouraging their people to leave because they can get better medical care, schooling, housing and welfare. Best of all they can vote. That’s not even debated.....

No other country in the world does it. That’s why we are the express train down. It’s an INSANE policy. Unless your goal is to bring down the United States.

I know the businesses love it in order to drive wages down, abuse the good hard working Mexicans by illegally paying them below minimum wage under the table.... Again that information is not even debated. Everyone KNOWS it goes on and people just look the other way.

I know the Mexicans are hard workers. Most of them are good. Although you cannot deny the 1/3 (FBI Crime Stats) that are in prison. Largely do to the drug war.

I don't know, what did he say about ILLEGAL immigration? Seems to me he wasn't discriminating between legal and illegal in the claims he made which got him into so muech trouble but then he has problems with speaking intelligently.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stood firm Monday on his description of Mexican immigrants as criminals.

Absolutely an intentional commission of a key word with clear intent to mislead and misinform readers.

AP, living up to its mission.

I’ve heard that refrain before—the 1840’s when the Irish Catholics escaping the Irish Potato Famine showed up, the 1880’s to 1924 when the southern and eastern Europeans showed up, the 1980’s with the Vietnamese boat refugees, and now with the Latinos.

It’s true. The Mexican government has been encouraging their indigenous Indian population to go to the US illegally for years. They even provide maps on where to cross illegally and pamphlets on what to say when caught to increase their likelihood of staying.

Funny, you spend your time ragging on the guy, looking at your post history shows that, yet you don’t know what he said and cannot explain why you’re upset with it?

What's most appalling is that people aren't taking this in context. First we get Liebermann and Murkowski holding on to US Senate seats they lost in primaries by all kinds of in-your-face manipulation. We get the likes of McCain and Ayotte and Portman who bare-*ssed lied to get elected; why can't they be tried with fraud? We saw how outrageous the Republican elitists will get defeating true conservatives...McDaniels was the last straw.

Now they've got Trump, much more of a threat because he isn't another politician under the spell of DC. And the coordinated pushback by media (particularly NBC), the backstabbing elite and corporations with a cheap-labor own-the-current-pols agenda is beyond outrageous, beyond imagination in its bare nastiness.

EVERY AMERICAN should be fighting back. Trump might be our unlikely savior, but he's the first one we've had who doesn't back down and knows how to fight back. This goes way beyond politics. It's about near total suppression of everything the US is supposed to represent. If we don't get behind Trump, there might not be another chance to save the US.

We're in a WAR against the leaders who won their elections because of our votes and they fight dirty! (and don't give a damn about us)
