Update at 10:28 a.m.: In a prepared statement, attorney Jan Soifer says her clients Jim Cato and Joe Stapleton are delighted that they finally have been issued a marriage license and can get married in their home county.
However, she adds, Its a shame that they needed to hire lawyers and file a lawsuit to make that happen. The issuance of the license this morning immediately after the lawsuit was filed does not change the fact that Hood County Clerk Katie Lang has been willfully violating the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law since Friday, June 26, when the Supreme Court issued its Obergefell opinion. The license was issued this morning, a few hours after the lawsuit was filed, in handwriting on the existing license form, which proves that County Clerk Lang easily could have complied with the law without waiting ten days. Under these circumstances, the lawsuit will not be dismissed until and unless we have an agreement from Clerk Lang that her office will issue marriage licenses to all couples, gay and straight, without delay, and an agreement to pay Jim and Joes attorneys fees for being forced to file the lawsuit.

I wouldn’t issue it....SCREW EM!..... I’d rather quit the job.
Complied with what law? The state of Texas has no such law!
Christians will be forced to resign their positions - another form of persecution.
The SCOTUS “Opinion” is now considered a law? Amazing.
I had hoped Gov. Abbott and A/G Paxton would have drawn a clear line in the sand and defied the SCOTUS.
They didn’t.
Queer marriages are here. Now is the time for Sen. Cruz to introduce a Traditional Marriage Amendment to the Constitution.
A number of county administraters throughout the country have quit, showing the courage of their convictions. If she's going to stay then she'll have to follow the law.
If Senator Cruz was to introduce such an amendment then I doubt he would get 51 votes in favor, much less the 67 needed to send it to the states.
[[I had hoped Gov. Abbott and A/G Paxton would have drawn a clear line in the sand and defied the SCOTUS.
They didnt.]]
None of the states will- they don’;t want to lose federal money- AND there aren’t enough other states to join and support them- IF enough states had a psine, this ‘law’ could be resoundly defeated
(sigh)
51 votes? Maybe 20. Most RINO’s wouldn’t support it. And no, the states wouldn’t pass it either. Not even sure if my beloved Texas would support such an Amendment.
This nation is doomed. Lost.
Yep. Federal money.
The states looked the other way when it came down to murdering children just to get that free money.
So when it comes to letting queers marry?
No problem.
This was an attitude from D.C. which we as Americans can’t say we had no warning about.
Something like over 200 years of warning.
We never thought it would get this oppressive, however.
Brother Atlas (to mix metaphors) may be finally getting ready to shrug.
This is going to be a big test of how much traditional moral backbone exists, and how much is going to be grown soon, among the people (we know it’s a big bunch of flab in DC and most state houses).
From the viewpoint of men, salvation from the situation is not possible.
From the viewpoint of God, all things are possible.
What a cowardly cave.
It would be an uphill battle to be sure, but in every state that had a referendum (including the far left mecca of California), homosexual marriage lost. Clearly, voters are not in favor of homosexual marriage, regardless what the media claims.
A constitutional amendment would not pass in California because the Democrats are firmly in control of the legislature. But the Republicans now control most of the state legislatures and could pick up some more.
It is easy to carp... hard to make the appropriate efforts to restore courage where it has been lost.
America has been put to a test and it is fumbling badly.
Now are we going to follow on to the situation by sitting on the sidelines and crowing with contempt (something the devil would want) — or with a new spiritual thrust to explain to people anew how faith in God can work leverage in a situation that no mortal can.
Even people who had been cowards in the past are not beyond such literal encouragement. And they may be the only resources in a situation that the Lord has provided.
