Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian on Thursday ordered the owners of a former Gresham bakery to pay $135,000 in damages to a lesbian couple for refusing to make them a wedding cake.
Avakian's ruling upheld a preliminary finding earlier this year that the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa had discriminated against the women on the basis of their sexual orientation.

But..but.. liberals are such *compassionate* people.. about as compassionate as cobras.
If it happens, it happens.
But the best tack to take is to lean on the Lord while also raising the issue before Caesar. Declaring it over and finished beforehand only cheers for the team in the smoking section of eternity.

This is nothing more than political retribution. And for the dummy libs who are gleeful about this ruling, remember that different parties will one day take office and use your tactics on you and your children.
Let’s hope the bakery doesn’t fold. This definitely needs to be taken all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. We’ll probably lose regardless, but Americans need to wake up! Gay marriage will trump the civil rights of freedom of association, free exercise of religion, and private property rights, just like those rights were sacrificed to end discrimination against blacks.

It is wrong, but you are watching them be forced out of business by the state. The state will force payment out of them. They can do w/e they want.
I agree it’s wrong. It’s ridiculous. Instead of going to another bakery and buying a cake these nasty bitches cried and cried.
The bakery didn’t refuse serve homosexuals...it refused to bake a type of cake. Avakian is a dishonest snake.

Of course, if they had gone to another bakery after they easily could have gotten their cake and have eaten it too.

This whole travesty was deliberately kept at the bureaucratic level and out of a courtroom where justice might have inadvertently prevailed.

There is a judgement coming for all these people, and it isn’t from some corrupt low-level bureaucrat either.
14th Amendment, Section 1: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
They bakery makes wedding cakes for others but refused to make one for homosexuals. That's seems to be illegal under Oregon law.
This is the kind of thing that courts are, at least in principle, answerable to investigate.

It refused to furnish a specific decoration for a specific kind of ceremony. This was not like walking into a place and purchasing a blank cake.

In this case it is a Tenth Amendment issue. There are no federal laws protecting homosexuals from discrimination, but Oregon passed their own.
