Donald Trump said Tuesday that if elected president he will erect a wall along the country’s southern border and said that taxpayers won’t have to pay a dime for it.
“I will build a great, great wall on our southern border and I will have Mexico pay for that wall,” Mr. Trump said.
He did not provide any details on how he would get Mexico to go along with his plan.

I can pontificate why Trump can do it but the professional politicians can not do it. It is because the politicians depend on their sugar daddy rich donors to stay in the campaign. If the sugar daddy orders them to push Obamatrade, they are forced to acquiesce.
Trump on the other hand does not need sugar daddy's to stay in the campaign. He can afford to speak his mind. Others can't.
Walls keep people in as well as out. If Mexico pays in full for a wall, it will want total control of it. Currently, the border maintenance and operation is based on co-functioning of Mexico with the US and is a border “zone” about a hundred and twenty miles deep. A wall paid for by Mexico would be potentially a containment wall for Americans based on policy determined by Mexico alone. One cannot expect that Mexicans would be kept out and Americans not kept in.
I’m not Trumpable(so far).. BUT....
THAT interview impressed me.. he is indeed a deal maker..
a wheeler and dealer.. which is what politics should be..
IF he had the power... he would install people in top positions THAT would get things done... (I believe)..
Sadly those in top positions are political appointees..
Usually often with zero ability to do anything.. for a hundred years..
IF NOT he would show them the door... or assign them to Antarctica.. Trump could and would do that..
He has a point many point good points..
MAYBE..... Cruz / Trump... I could live with..

I don’t think either of these two things are even in question...
Charge a fee for money order remittances to Mexico.
Charge an entrance fee for Mexican nationals who enter the US legally.
There are probably several more, including threatening to end NAFTA unless Mexico comes up with the money.

I figured there were other ways, and you do touch on a few.
I don’t think I’d charge an entry fee. I would bill Mexico for processing for every illegal immigrant caught and returned.
And if it didn’t pay, I’d utilize your other suggestions.
In fact, I’d fine Mexico a large sum for each illegal. Make it something like $10,000.00 per.
As Perot famously asked, "What's that sucking sound?" It was supposed to be "jobs going to Mexico," or some such patriot-populist-protectionist idea. But in the event, it was him sucking conservative votes into a black hole, so that an unelectable, anti-populist, Marxist Democrat could get elected with a plurality.
I love the Donald's rhetoric at times. But he's a real estate guy. He'd not attracting attention randomly. He does nothing randomly. So, what's his goal?

For one, Trump is approaching 70, but in good health.
Cruz is mid-40’s....if he is sitting VP, and gains executive
experience as Veep, he will be formidable presidential candidate.
