Does your church ban gay marriage? Then it should start paying taxes.

It’s difficult to see how the nationwide legalization of gay marriage could have any kind of significant negative repercussions for anybody who’s not gay. Difficult – but not impossible. Because now that the US government formally recognizes marriage equality as a fundamental right, it really shouldn’t skew the tax code so as to give millions of dollars in tax breaks to groups which remain steadfastly bigoted on the subject.

I’m talking, of course, about churches.

ALL liberal charities have issues for which they can be banned from not paying taxes.

Thank you, Supreme Court.

Anyone care to guess how long it will take for a litigant, demonstrating harm, to wind their way back to our new Masters with a case requiring the Justices to determine whether these new imagined rights supersede the First Amendment?

All these folks tossing around tax exemption for churches fail to understand why such a thing exists. It's certainly not about social sanction. It's about the Church's right to exist. It's about not allowing the State, bureaucrats or Congress, to play favorites with religion, as Madison could not have spelled out more clearly.

Once again, Supremes. Thanks for opening this can of worms, playing dangerous games on the beach.

They are going after churches and such on local anti-discrimination laws.

If you think government should have the power to tax religious exercise, you are missing the point. Statists always want to tax religion.

Churches should speak out about anything they want to, and not pay any tax for doing so.

My church can not "Ban" anything, they are not the government.

I am sorry that you are suffering from a mental illness and the government has actually banned treatment but we still are not going to play make-believe with you.

“It’s difficult to see how the nationwide legalization of gay marriage could have any kind of significant negative repercussions for anybody who’s not gay”.

This is yet another in the endless lies and distortions of fact perpetrated by the homosexual activists and their allies in the Cultural Marxist left. Homosexual “marriage” was ALREADY legal in many states. What 5 rouge oligarchical tyrants on the SCOTUS did was to impose sodomite “marriage” on all 50 states, in violation of the 9th and 10th amendments, despite the wishes of the people as expressed thru their legislatures. This is judicial tyranny personified. Their ruling made scant reference to ANY constitutional foundation whatsoever, and deserves no respect other than civil disobedience.

The “negative repercussions” are to the constitution, the rule of law, and self governance.

Gays are not the only ones who have been out to get churches, the atheists have been talking about banning tax relief for churches. Now the gays have a way to do it. The can say that churches who are against gay marriage are DISCRIMINATING AGAINST GAYS and therefore violating the Constitution. DISCRIMINATION has been the all powerful magic word for the past fifty years. It is like abracadabra is to professional magicians. Using the magic word can get you anything you want.

We have seen that using the correct magical words such as: discrimination, fairness, love etc. has hypnotized the nation into accepting the unacceptable. Now they can work their magic on turning the public against the churches. Prepare for years of Hollywood efforts to make the church look bad. How gays have been mistreated by those mean Christians, lots of snarky anti-Christian jokes, Christian characters on sitcoms that are made to look bad.

After some years of this there may be a lawsuit by a homosexual who has a grievance against a particular church that did psychological damage to him when he was growing up. No matter how ridiculous, there will be a judge who will hear it because the left always guarantees that there will be a judge who will hear it not matter how inane the case may be and of course, the judge will agree with the homosexual. This will set a president. Other judges will follow and we will have another “evolving paradigm”.

They will go after churches on taxes and they will go after churches on speech as well. They have the formula that has been proven to work time and again, they have the judges, they have the media, all they need is the time and they will have plenty of that.

We need to wipe the sleep out of our eyes and think well ahead of them because they will do what ever they want if we let them. And please lets stop thinking that we will win them over with our “love” and turning the other cheek. How has that worked?

Pray, be tough, be smart and God will give you the victory. We need a David right now and a Jesus kicking the money changers out of the temple. We have too many weak leaders.

Ya, but the are not prevented from marrying. They can go to the Justice of the Peace.

And Libs don’t want the very powerful churches in the US to lose their tax exempt status because they would no longer be excluded from politics. They could use their money and influence to affect elections and maybe even, eventually, overturn Roe vs Wade and maybe even eventually gay marriage.

The left will quietly ignore mosques and ignore any attempt to call attention to their hypocrisy.

They could find a different florist or baker as well,
but that’s not the point.

The point is to shut down churches, businesses, and people who don’t approve.

On the other hand, if they support illegal immigration and push Global Warming nonsense, they should pay taxes.

A pastor in Sweden was jailed for 5 months because he read from scriptures regarding homosexuality. Don’t think it can’t happen here. The homosexuals and all the left copy each other regardless of international boundries. They are always working together. If it happens in Sweden, Canada, France etc. it can happen here in due time. We have to prepare for all contingencies

“Doesn’t anyone realize that Christians need to push back with the same force that Muslims use?”

That would legitimize Islam, which is a gang, not a religion.

It fails THE fundamental test of religion - can you choose to leave the flock as readily as you chose to join it?

If you can’t, if your group fails that test, it means you’re a gang. Gang’s have the same rules - once in, never out, unless we cast you out (generally on a slab).

The left isn’t stupid. They understand this. Islam is useful for now, but history teaches us how to deal with Islam.

The enemy of the left is Christianity, not religion.

Five people on the Supreme Court are dopes. They can be talked into anything by the prevailing culture (media) and the current talking points at the universities.

I can already know how the liberals and GOPe will think. “Just think how much more property tax revenue we can bring in if close up these non-paying churches and bring in a shopping center!”

Logically, under that scenario, local residents should be getting a break on their property tax, as they won’t have to fund the church’s exemption...somehow, I don’t think that will happen...
