Just a few hours ago Greek PM Tsipras addressed his nation imploring then to "remain calm" and reassuring them that their "deposits were safe." It appears the Greeks did not believe him.
Many were wondering where the Greek bank lines were for the past several months.
Turns out the local depositors were merely waiting until just after the last minute to withdraw their funds... horde gas... and stack food. Greece, it appears is Venezuela - the new socialist paradise.
Keep Calm...

You can’t eat cash. Keep some non perishables on hand as well.
PO (pre 0bama) I kept 4 weeks of food and water at all times.
Now it is several times that level.
“Storm” is a bit over the top, don’t you think?
Pictures show the people calmly standing in line.
The US is still very rich in natural resources, and can loot that to struggle along.
Traditionally, the 2 ways for a nation to generate wealth is through manufacturing or exploit of natural resources. We are down to one option, Greece is fresh out of options.
Generation? Months if not weeks.
How do you say Maggie Thatcher’s famous line “Socialism only works until you run out of other peoples money” in Greek?
Who will be allowed to be first in line here? The gays, trans-gendered folks or blacks? Inquiring minds want to know.
Looks rather like a bank run. I wonder what they call it over there.
Stock up on beans, bullets, and band-aids.
Banks are closed, those lines are for the ATMs. ATMs limit daily withdrawals, and only hold a relatively small amount of cash.
“This is the US within a generation if things dont change.”
Or likely this coming September.
“Turns out the local depositors were merely waiting until just after the last minute to withdraw their funds... horde gas... and stack food.”
After all, only us PARANOID CONSERVATIVE AMERICANS are into preparing for emergencies.
The “more sophisticated” and “refined” people wait until they’re able to confirm that the crisis is real and severe before taking action.
If Obama was president of Greece the media would report this as “a bump in the recovery”.
Et tu, France and Germany.
If banks had had ATMs back in the day, a bank run would have looked like this. Whether or not the peole are able to get their money or part of it, the situation is just as bad. The people are the last to know and when they wake up to the reality it is too late to avert anything. The collapse is on.
Ain’t socialism wonderful?
“Storm is a bit over the top, dont you think?...Pictures show the people calmly standing in line.”
And it things immediately do go back to ‘normal’ you would have been proven right. But if not, then this is following the same outline as is predicted for an EMP attack - which will be MUCH, MUCH, WORSE. People will have a few days of supplies and maybe water, and will stay calm, for a few days. But then things will get a bit lively as people see things getting worse...and then lawlessness.
In other words, they won’t stay that calm, in those lines, for long. Either the lines will go away, or the calm will go away.
(I'm from the government and I'm here to help you!)
I feel bad for the ordinary, good people who will suffer. This could get very nasty.
