Speaking to the some of the most creative advertising people in the world, Monica Lewinsky received a standing ovation after she recounted how she was treated after her infamous scandal with former President Bill Clinton and saying, public shaming as a blood sport must stop.
Ms. Lewinsky gave the Ogilvy & Inspire keynote speech Thursday at the Cannes Lions festival in France, which bills itself as the world's biggest annual awards show and festival for professionals in the creative communications industry. According to the NY Post Page Six website, the former White House intern gave a speech similar to the "TED talk" speech she gave in March (embedded below).
The former girlfriend of Hillary Clinton's husband's described herself as the patient zero of Internet shaming:
She told the crowd, Like me, at 22, a few of you may also have taken wrong turns and fallen in love with the wrong person, maybe even your boss Unlike me, though, your boss probably wasnt the president of the United States of America.
Not a day goes by that I am not reminded of my mistake, and I regret that mistake deeply. In 1998 after having been swept up into an improbable romance, I was then swept up into a political, legal and media maelstrom, that we had never seen before.
This scandal was brought to you by the digital revolution what that meant for me personally was that overnight I went from being a completely private figure, to a publicly humiliated one worldwide. I was patient zero of losing a personal reputation on a global scale almost instantaneously.
Perhaps, it says much about the mainstream media that the former White House intern was still faces derision even though she was taken advantage of by a much older and powerful boss. And, rarely do they mention the fact that, because he lied under oath, he was the only U.S. president in history to give up his law license to avoid getting disbarred.
Lewinsky described how, once the scandal broke, Clinton supporters took to the internet an branded her as "a tart, slut, whore, bimbo, floozy and of course that woman'":
"I was seen by many but truly known by few It was hard to remember that woman had a soul and was once unbroken. In 1998 I lost my reputation and my dignity, I lost almost everything, and I almost lost my life.
Lewinsky went on to talk about her mission to end the type of cyber-bullying she received, adeptly framing it in advertising terms.
But can you imagine what it is like when the brand is you personally, your likeness, your name, your history, your values, your soul. Thats what happened to me in 1998. You are looking at a woman who was publicly savaged for a decade because of who I was branded.
She concluded, We can lead each other to a more compassionate, more empowered place, we can help change our behavior, we can all learn from mistakes and we can together make a society where the sometimes distancing of technology does not remove our humanity.
You are the creative engines that will drive forward our culture. Will you help me?
She is still a freaking idiot
I never noticed she has gray eyes.
She must a Numenorean.
I remember very well how the feminists piled on her too. They ditched the sisterhood thing oh so conveniently.
A repository for bubba spooge ...no more no less
Her 15 minutes of fame is crustified on a blue dress
She is still only known for having blown. A bit of a cultural oddity, like a 8ft tall woman barber, someone to be acknowledged and politely tolerated in public at this time.
Yes yes yes, please please please media give her as much attention as possible while the Hitlery demon runs. Actually Juanita Brodderick would be preferable everytime Hitlery talks about “equality for women”
Was she on her knees when they were standing??
Not to get too graphic, but if not for semen on her dress, the Lewinsky scandal would never have played out the way it did. It would just have been he said she said and Clinton would never have been held responsible .
She claims she was cyber bullied and all that. What gets overlooked is that the Washington Post and Newsweek magazine had been sitting on the Lewsinsky story for months. The MSM did not want to report the story, presumeably to protect Clinton. Drudge and others online reported the story due to the MSM bottling it up.
I heard they were blown away by her speech.
She is now more useful to the left then ever.
she will be in the vehicle by which they crackdown on free speech on the Internet.
They want to get rid of Drudge and Rush and James O’Keefe and Cheryl Atkisson, and Monica Lewinsky will be the way that they do it.
Monica will get a way to make a steady living and in her the left will get a new weapon.
Wow, she still has no shame. Has she ever apologized to Hillary and Chelsea?
Gd bless her. She made a dumb big mistake. She was a dumb horny girl but she didn’t deserve what she got. She was also honest when it came d down to her testimony, which is what really hurt her. Everyone knew every living detail of those trysts, far more than was comfortable while eating our breakfast cereal. Because she testified truthfully under oath.
I wish her well, and this is a good thing she is doing. Clinton is still lauded and back slapped, when he hurt this country in so many ways and is a rapist. She didn’t really do anything to harm the country any more than any bimbo who serviced a president. (Right, Doris Kearns Goodwin??) Her name itself means BJ. This honesty about the cyber bullying she got after is a good thing and might help other young dumb girls.
Monica Lewinsky, a never ending quest for the big O.
The dress may have saved her life. How easy would a “Intern Lies About Affair; Commits Suicide From Shame” story have been for the Clinton machine?
Soon running for office as Senator from California.
She’s a self-absorbed numbskull. (among other things)
It’s human nature to try to explain your own behavior away as not of significance morally. So in a way, I understand her thinking she’s alright, when she anything but.
It’s those applauding her who are even bigger idiots. They should be able to see her for who she is.
No Monica, giving BJs to a man married to someone else, who has an obligation to them and a young child, is not right.
And audience, you folks don’t have any excuse whatsoever for excusing what she did as “morally right”.
Sitting there applauding does nothing other than encourage the behavior and put on display how morally bankrupt, irresponsible, and devoid of substance the audience is.
Funny, I was thinking just the opposite. Shame is about the only weapon left in our non-fulminating arsenal. The Supreme Court can force legally sanctioned homo (faux) marriage on us, but no force on earth can require us to APPROVE it. And as long as we're free to speak our minds (which we shortly will NOT be), we can make it clear to the fags and perverts that we still consider them disgusting.
So a couple of fairies come into my bakery asking for a "wedding" cake, I may not be legally able to refuse to serve them, but I can cheerily comment that "I think you and your partner are vile, putrid filth. Oh, and be assured that you can ask me to make the cake, but you can't force me to write anything on it. That is my license as a creative agent. And I doubt you're going to like what I have to say. Now, would you like that with a creme frosting or ganache?"
I can then drive the cake to the bathhouse (or wherever it is that fags get "married") in my van that carries a big banner saying "Follow Me to Sodom."
