Richard W. Matt, one of the convicted murderers who staged an elaborate escape from New York’s largest prison nearly three weeks ago, was killed on Friday in a burst of gunfire by federal agents, two people with knowledge of the situation said.

Report I saw was it was an attempted carjacking, and both were together at the time. Guy in camper (carjack-ee) got away and called 911. Cops there quick and shot first one.
Shortly thereafter, shots exchanged with the other one.

Since it is personal to you, I’ll post my theory to you.
I learned from reports yesterday that there is construction in process at the prison and lots of noise. the construction noise masked the noise of cutting the perfectly square opening in the 1/4” thick steel escape pipe.
A guard much earlier accessed the utility corridor/catwalk and ran electrical cords into the cell(s) to permit cooking.
Conclusion:
There was widely available access to the utility corridor and the escape pipe. A skilled craftsman with a tape measure, square, and side grinder cut the near perfect opening in the 1/4” steel pipe. The skilled craftsman was not the escapees but someone paid to do the job.
The brains of the escape is still at large and as intended, heading toward Canada

You absolutely cannot believe, unless you are unusually well-informed, the scope of NYC gun laws.
As a condition of the merger of the five boroughs in 1898, Albany agreed that NYC could legislate on many subjects normally reserved to a State.
The Sullivan Act, passed in 1911, mandates one year in jail for illegal possession. And it’s routinely enforced (unless you are rich). And, virtually all possession is illegal. Even Plaxico Burris, AFTER catching the winning TD in the Super Bowl, went to prison (although for AD in a club, not simple possession).
NYC’s gun laws cannot possibly be constitutional. But there are so many of them that a legal attack is like climbing Everest.
The Press-Republican paper in Plattsburgh is all over this story, they've done an amazing job (put the big boys to shame), and they update their tweets on their website frequently.
They can't have that many reporters or stringers, but they sure are getting it done.
Your theory makes sense. I couldn’t figure out how they knew where to go once through the wall, but they made it to freedom right under the guards’ noses. I am sure that dipsy broad couldn’t have planned it.

Do you ever hear the name of the Clinton Correctional facility warden or superintendent or whatever he's (she's) called?
No you don't.
We're a couple of weeks into the escape drama and not one person in a million knows who is in charge of this cozy Club Fed prison.
We hear about and from the prison guards and tailor shop personnel...all the way up to the various law enforcement brass and even to the top, Governor Cuomo.
But evidently, the guy (or guy-ette) who personally runs the institution is being protected, is in hiding, or doesn't exist at all...and the institution was run by the inmates (and it looks like it probably was).
If anyone knows who the resident Big Enchilada of the Clinton Graybar Hotel is, please post it here, LOL.

I would not be so quick to judge Whoraldo as not being queer...especially after that little “selfie” in his bath towel.
Good. One down, one to go.
I knew a guy who left his cabin in PA unlocked.
People would find it and use it whatever, and if it was locked, they’d vandalize it as *thanks* for being locked.
Easier to let them use it and not put up with vandals they’d never catch.
However, the water turn on valve was VERY well hidden.
NY Troopers are very professional, but don’t mess with them.
