Lawmakers on Wednesday demanded tougher regulations to prevent a repeat of the wild machete attack in Bryant Park.
It is disturbing, said state Sen. Tony Avella, a day after a foreign tourist was slashed with an easy-to-get and hard-to-ban machete. They are deadly weapons, he said.

Even though machetes are tools, they should be banned ... along with other dangerous implements like hammers, saws, glass cutters, trimmers, rakes, pitchforks, mowers, shovels and wood chippers!
They can pry my DR high wheel string trimmer from my cold dead hands...
You can make one from a car spring.
I think politicians should be banned.
Just handcuff everybody’s hands behind them & make them try to live life that way .... easier than banning EVERYTHING that can possibly be used to kill anybody. Then again, that will open the door for actions like stomping and biting someone to death. No sarc tag - what is going on now is more ridiculous than what I’m saying.
why stop there? just ban anybody from the park. that wills top killings.
a
stupid libs believe they can stop evil.
you cannot.
once again, these are emotions controlling common sense.
What about rocks and sticks? Those can be used as weapons. And while the idiots are at it, what about fists?
Liberals: When in doubt pass a new law.
The Liberals have no intention to control evil. They just intend to control you and me.
I must be a mind reader, just got mine last week, in before the ban.
Maybe if their gun laws weren’t so onerous, the machete attacker would have been shot by someone with a concealed carry permit?
“I think politicians should be banned.”

I fully agree, and furthermore just the thought that (to quote a fellow freeper) somewhere a “politician is dead or dying” makes my day. Not all of them, but the vast majority.
Don’t forget about meat cleavers.
...as opposed to calm and orderly machete attacks.

Hard - but not impossible to ban. I propose a three-day waiting period and background check before the machete permit is issued.
Oh, and no assault machetes!
Weedwacking is not a right!
I'm sure that the Liberals are disappointed that the foreign tourist wasn't a member of some protected minority - then they really could have had a field day!
Also: If the attacker had screamed, say, "Long live Mickey Mouse!", then community organizers and activists could decry Mickey Mouse hats as "offensive symbols of hatred" and demand that they be banned, too!
Regards,
Pencil laws because of school stabbings.
What a PANSY.
Got mine last month..................
...you can make one from a car spring...
Why bother? Why not just make an AK47 from a shovel?
They can have my Maquahuitl when they pry it from my gold dead hands!
This is what I use after surveying by area using my machete.
