Calling it a "contemporary symbol of divisiveness and racism," eBay said Tuesday that it will ban the sale of Confederate flags and similarly themed merchandise.
"This decision is consistent with our long-standing policy that prohibits items that promote or glorify hatred, violence and racial intolerance," said eBay spokeswoman Johnna Hoff.
The e-commerce company is the latest to prohibit the sale of Confederate merchandise following Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Sears Holdings Corp.

Just the battle flag, and not the other flags of the Confederacy.
So if we all switch to Stars and Bars, what will the progs and tthe “tolerant people” think? I bet it would be a week before they figured it out.
For how much longer?
I will note for the enterprising FReeper that the following domain name appears to be available:
Anyone who wants to start a gang-buster business in flags and decals could do so.
Good luck!
Once again, American business cowers to the unintelligible mutterings of a percentage minority.
“And Nazis are allowed to have parades right here in the USA. “
Well, they’re funded by the SPLC.
Looks like they pulled down the flags some time in the past hour. Related novelties are still up (beach towels, etc.)
I have been selling and buying on Ebay since 2001 but this is really p!ssing me off. There are lots of things that are offensive to me but I don’t go around trying to have them banned. I will be looking at alternatives to make extra money.

Civil War memorabilia is a major chunk of the market for collectables.
Plus, nobody's going to hang anything they think is an authentic Lee autograph from a flagpole outside their house.
I get the feeling the CBF will come back too, after all the uproar dies down.
The collectables are private in a a way that flags aren't, and a flag at somebody's house isn't the same as one on public property.
FWIW: I'm curious about the "Anti Nazi Symbol Clock," which is basically just a way of selling a Nazi symbol clock with a red circle and slash over it. Clever marketers (or maybe Nazis).
Just checked...Ebay carries Che Gueverra Gear, Fidel Castro Gear, Nazi money/stamps/buttons with Hitler’s portrait and Swastika, Idi Amin memorabilia, all sorts of Stalin stuff, and Mao’s Little Red Book!
To some Old Glory is offensive....ask Colorado schools.
[Tomorrow it will be the American Flag...]
I’ve noticed ‘GOD bless America’ is being replaced by ‘GOD bless the world.’
Should raise the prices generally throughout the world.
How many slaves were living under the US flag prior to the Civil War??
Some entrepreneur needs to crank up the t-shirt mill and make some that have the Confederate Flag with the logo “Come and Take This One Down! Molon Labe”
(Sorry, just couldn’t resist.) It’s a shirt that should be worn only by the few, the proud that are big enough to back it up if need be.
Now, as a FReeper stated, we have the right to buy, ebay etal have the right to NOT sell (unless you are a baker that doesn't desire to decorate a cake with profanity or something that offends them).
If these Companies, Including WALMART, think they are taking the high moral ground, when will they stop buying merchandise made with slave and/or child labor or people working for such a draconian wage they may as well be slaves.
Somewhat like 7/11 backing etc MADD, yet sell single cans of beer to go. As a lifelong, plankowner, charter member of DAMM, I question their (7/11) ethics.
