Obama's trade agenda moves past key Senate hurdle

The President's trade agenda scored a major victory Tuesday when the Senate voted to advance a bill to allow "fast-track" approval of large international trade bills.

The outcome of this key procedural vote had been in doubt as a group of 14 pro-trade Democrats weighed whether to continue their support of the bill out of concern that a related workers' assistance package might not pass both chambers.

But after repeated assurances by GOP congressional leaders that workers' assistance measure will be adopted, 13 out of 14 backed the bill.

The vote was 60 to 37, passing by the slimmest margin needed to pass.

A final Senate vote on fast-track could come as soon as later Tuesday, and it will then head to President Barack Obama's desk for his signature.

“Republican Sen. Mike Enzi of Wyoming, who was absent during the first version of the bill, voted in favor making up for the loss.” (making up for the loss of Cruz)

I wrote Enzi this morning encouraging him to take Cruz’ lead and vote against it this second go-around. The absolute nerve, he ignored me! What can you expect from a RINO.

I don’t think it matters anymore because I’m pretty sure we’re screwed.

That was close. (sarcasm) The bad guys almost lost.

PS: Check the "no" votes to see who was in most danger of not being re-elected.

It is also safe for many of them to vote against it in the final vote, to make it appear they actually care about their constituents. It’s giant scam.

They all know it’s going to pass.

It’s why it’s now safe for some politicians to oppose.

Yes oppose. Right.

Those who can not see this are politically blind.

I’m beginning to feel as helpless as an unborn baby whose mother is sitting in Planned Parenthood’s waiting room.

Nobody cares about me because I have no money. The government doesn’t care because I can’t pay taxes and the Church doesn’t care because I can’t tithe.

Is that the sound of a suction machine?

This time around, one fewer Republican voted as Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who penned op-ed in opposition to the legislation that published Tuesday morning.

Gee thanks, Ted...you could have helped drive a stake through this thing's heart the first time around, but instead you didn't, and actually gave House GOP'ers cover.

Nice going.

Number one 2016 election issue, ending the corrupt bought and paid for Congress. The candidate who convinces me on that gets my support because all other issues fall under the outcome of whether this corrupt political system remains or is fought against.

Yep—it’s unpopular with the base, so excess votes facing elections, such as Cruz, were freed up at the last minute to try to minimize the damage from the wrath of primary voters.

Giving our JV president more international negotiation authority. A man who hates America and our ideals.

The GOP and their crony socialist enablers are pathetic.

The GOP still needs Reagan Dems in places like Ohio and Florida for 2016.

At this point I'm seriously wondering if it really matters. Now, I really don't want the kleptocrat with blood on her hands in the White Trailer again. Don't get me wrong there. But with the way our government bureaucracies have metastasized into their own feudal dukedoms, a Congress that does the bidding of K Street lobbyists, and elections that appear more stage-managed theater acts than real elections....

I don't know if it really matters who gets elected from either party. The "system" has grown so large and assumed a life of it's own that no one person or group of people will have any meaningful impact on its course.

Yes, he did...Cruz promoted it and enabled it along with that snake Ryan.

And to think, Ted was my Prince.

Well the country gave them the house and senate and said "stop Obama" and they've not only rubber stamped his agenda, they've fought for it. This is why I'm not a republican.

The only difference between democrats and republicans is that democrats lie about what other people believe and republicans lie about what they themselves believe. In the end though it doesn't really matter which of them is running the show, does it?

As long as you don’t bow to Mammon you will remain faithful to the King of glory. The corrupt in politics, business and the church will answer to God.

Cruz took the heat while Rubio stayed low in grass. Then Rubio slithered through and voted yea. Great game plan there from Team Cruz
