I am of Viking ancestry. In my part of the World, things like fighting spirit, balls and an appetite for destuction matter much. We also dispose of some decent brain power. Bohr and Nobel both were Scandinavians. My tiny Sweden is furthermore the only nation that successfully has took Moscow (- in 1610 Swedish field marshal De la Gardie entered Moscow and was cheered by large crowds. Everyone knows Swedish rule equals law and order. We might be a boring bunch, but we wholeheartedly hate chaos, injustice, disorder and crime. But if you have a look to Scandinavia of today and of the last 300 years or so you’ll see much of order, justice and rule of law. One certain thing is even more striking; the economic advancement. My country, Sweden, has one of the highest standards of living on Earth. We don’t have oil or a unrestricted banking industry. What is it that we do? We educate ourselves, strive for success and run our companies very well.

Yes he was. On the WWII +70 thread I just read (with the war just ended in Europe) that the Norwegian government was going through and getting all of the gold, art, etc. that had been stolen and giving it back to the rightful owners.
My dad’s cousin had been in the Norwegian underground. Hid in a pile of potatoes in the cellar when the Nazi’s came through. My dad asked him once what he had done in the underground. “Nobody will ever know - not even my family. There are still Nazis.”
Another WWII article said they were going to round up all of the Norwegian traitors and execute them. Although I think in all they only executed a dozen or so.
Interesting. My wife is a Viking, so I have the answer as to why the viking men went sailing to the far corners of the earth, and it wasn’t for treasure.... ;-)
