GOP rife with tensions over Obamacare-SCOTUS response
Politico ^ | 06/16/2015 | MANU RAJU and BURGESS EVERETT

Senior Republicans who are worried they’ll be blamed for killing health insurance for millions of Americans have been busy assembling a range of options if the Supreme Court strikes down the law’s subsidies in 34 states.

But the GOP senators running for president — starting but not ending with firebrand Ted Cruz — threaten to stymie their leaders’ carefully hatched plans. Any whiff that the GOP’s Plan B is a continuation of Obamacare is bound to spark furious protests from the conservative base, putting pressure on the presidential hopefuls to respond. Cruz, for one, would press for a wholesale repeal of the law — or to allow states to opt out of Obamacare — if the high court provides the opening.

Top Republicans warn those conservatives are playing with fire.

“Things can’t be turned on a dime,” said Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn of Texas. “People can run for president, but we’ve actually got to solve a problem.”

It’s the latest example of how presidential politics continues to be the biggest wild card facing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) as he tries to work his will in a body where any one senator can upset his plans. Already, White House hopefuls have altered McConnell’s strategy on Iran and the PATRIOT Act. The aftermath of the King v. Burwell case could be next.

“Corralling our presidentials on a plan or a solution is going to be a bit of a challenge,” said John Thune of South Dakota, the No. 3 GOP leader. “Everyone is going to be running away from — lock, stock and barrel — any connection whatsoever to the current program.”

It is more than amusing to see the how the liberal rags are so ‘worried’ over how Republicans will deal with Obamacare while not recounting the fact that this entire debacle from the get go is 100% the fault of liberals.

The explanation for what you say you have never understood is contained in the last few words of your post if you understand the true intent behind Obamacare.

the problem is not having a solution, the problem is determining which solution is best.

in the end, the several solutions will be brought out into the light and some hybrid will be forged.

Cruz, for one, would press for a wholesale repeal

THAT is what the voters expect; to live up to the promise.

Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn of Texas. “People can run for president, but we’ve actually got to solve a problem.”

If by some miracle the Supreme Court solved the problem, all that Congress would have to do is avoid reviving that problem. Kill Obamacare dead, and then, once it's dead, we can debate the next step.

You gotta admit once you understand the motive, which is to destroy America, it is a brilliant idea. When I was growing up 16 year old students drove school buses in my state and did a jam up job of it too. Now they can stay on their parents insurance as a dependent child until they are ten years older than that. Kids used to want to become independent adults at the earliest opportunity. Now they have been taught to think of themselves as children until the age when many used to have children of their own in school. Remember, some women used to become grandmothers at thirty or thirty two. Give them a little more time and we will be referring to middle aged men with grey temples as boys. I have already seen a post on FR by a woman who, at twenty seven, said that she is contemplating marriage and her friends ask her why she would want to get married so “young”. Think about that for a while. Twenty seven used to be old, old maid territory with little to no prospect of ever marrying. I didn’t get married until two days after my twenty eighth birthday and everyone had given up on me by then, convinced I would die a bachelor. By twenty three they were literally asking me to my face, “What is wrong with you?” All that because I was a single man at twenty three.

"Things can't be turned on a dime"

That's a lie, obamacare was turned on dime, Cruz says he will immediately repeal obamacare because it can be done constitutionally the socialist Rino's want to prevent that.

BTW I've heard no other candidate promise to entirely repeal obamacare, if they have I've not heard it but Cruz has said it over at least a hundred times and by the time he is elected president he will have said it thousands of times, he means what he says!

They can’t be serious. 0bamacare is 100% 0bama’s baby. The Dems own it lock, stock, and barrel.

Didn’t it pass with 0 Republican votes? Why would a ruling from the Supremes make the Republicans worry?

THAT is what the voters expect; to live up to the promise.

That's what they want on Wednesday. On Thursday, the voters expect "mend, not end." That's the problem with American voters... with gnat-like attention spans and legendary fickleness, trying to appease their demands is a dice-roll.

As usual, this is 180 degrees from reality.

It is the GOP that should be delighted. They can point out how flawed Obamacare is....the website, the subsidies, etc.

The people who designed this are the same incompetent people you want managing your healthcare?

This should be totally around the neck of Obama.

Of course, if this was a GOP program being cut down, it would be all about how disgraceful it must be to have the signature achievement of your administration get shot down over incompetent legislative writing.

“We’re far along the road to Socialized Medicine.”

We’re far along that RED brick road paved with good intentions and we all know it ain’t agonna end in OZ or even Kenosha. The saddest part is that even the good intentions are fake.

they had better be worried about being blamed for not being prepared with a superior program within the private sector with the few changes needed to address the shortcomings of the previous program that was the best in the world.

any legislators who do not have a ready plan to take care of anything the Supreme Court says, doesn’t belong in Congress

if not ready they need to be replaced at next election

I’m saying that Obamacare wasn’t necessary. We’ve always taken care of our poor.

In the most expensive way possible.

This is liberal spin because the know the decision has come down and that the Administration has lost.

Not doubting you exactly, but would you like to explain how you know this?

Why would a ruling from the Supremes make the Republicans worry?

Because if the Supreme Court strikes this down on what basically is a technicality the the Democrats will be there the next day with a one-line fix to Obamacare that will address the Supreme Court's ruling. What do the Republicans do then?

That's when the Republicans start to own it.
