"Got it. I'll use the old *YOU'LL READ OBAMATRADE AFTER WE PASS IT!* line."

I’m not talking about IBM negotiating with Microsoft.

I’m talking about MY government negotiating trade in secret. I see reasons to negotiate defense, weaponry, black operations, etc., in secret.

I see great danger is allowing secrecy beyond that

Our government negotiates every bill "in secret". You can watch congress "debate" bills on C-Span but none of us are naive enough to think that's where the real negotiations take place.

The real world is all about sausage making, and the most we can realistically hope for is that we get to see the finished sausage and decide whether we want to eat it or not.

There is a difference between a group that does it’s work in the open but isn’t reported on and a group that establishes their work area as a classified zone. I spent 24 years in the military, and I’ve seen the difference.

I admit that I often thought the most secretive of military papers should be classified ‘confidential’ instead of ‘top secret’. No one was interested in reading them.

Nonetheless, top secret came with all kinds of legal controls and penalties.

If ObamaCare is an example, they gave it to 5 fraternities at Yale on Beer Weekend.

“..will then have at least 60 days to review and debate before the vote.” We have heard such language before - and it was not true - ever.

Let’s not get too crazy. The business America is business. We just want to end crony capitalism, not kill commerce.

Paul Ryan on FOX News: Voting on the process NOT the agreement. There is not an agreement totally drawn up yet. They will do that in fall AFTER they all see it. He said don’t believe what you read on internet. I give benefit of doubt first to Ryan. Facts are getting so convoluted, especially on line, these days.

Why change the current process? Why keep this change in process secret?

Remember how they changed the process on the Iran vote?

Please don't defend this nonsense.

I respectfully disagree. Being off topic of thread I will not be going totally into topic as it is a large one. However, since you brought it up, we are where we are now because Obama is still president. Iraq, our Military, the economy, obamacare etc. anything after date of 2nd term is doomed obama. We work towards the great good, IMO. It’s not always easy choices but has to be done in steps some times. I believe don’t throw baby out with bath water. Some believe in all or nothing.

“Justice must be blind.”

No, Justice must be wise, with both eyes open!

The difference between the “greek myth of the goddess of justice” and the God of Abraham, Isaac, the Father of Jesus Christ!

It’s the concept of blind justice that has allowed the Obama creeps to “tip” the scales while claiming...”Blind bur Fair Justice”!

It appears Ross Perot was ahead of his time: "Larry, there's not a dimes worth of difference between the two of em!"

George Wallace had that nailed in 1968

Justice being blind means that justice shouldn't be a respecter of persons. Just like God. Sadly, God isn't working in the American court system, but men are. Justice must be evenly meted out.

In Chicago there is a terrible bias against anyone with property and the courts reflect that. Divorce courts are notoriously biased against men. Rape situations are biased against men. That's not blind justice. Capisce?

Well, this isn't totally in the open but all 535 members of congress can see the work in progress if they want to.

Do you know what level of classification this draft has? I haven't really heard.

It's fine to insist that there shouldn't be any confidentiality in negotiations, but then also admit that no trade deals will ever get done.

That is a false choice. How about another possibility... they clear up the secrecy issues to calm us down?

See the only reason they aren't clearing up the issues we have is because these bad things exist OR worse things exist.

I do not trust my government with the power they have - and hence am not desirous of willfully and affirmatively ceding the executive branch more powers.

They should clear this up.

There are legal penalties if the secrecy is violated. My guess is that makes it the military equivalent of top secret. I don’t know that congress uses that same system.
