G7 leaders agree to phase out fossil fuels by 2100, Merkel says

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says the Group of Seven wealthy democracies have agreed that the world should phase out the use of fossil fuels by the end of this century.

Merkel said Monday that the G-7 leaders committed themselves to the need to “decarbonize the global economy in the course of this century.”

That is a technical term for ending the use of oil, gas and coal – but not nuclear power – and replacing them with alternative sources of energy such as wind and solar power.

Can't wait to fly on all-solar aircraft. It may only hold a couple of people, won't fit at any airport, require people to hold the wings up when taking off, and have to stop every few hundred miles...but, hey! It's worth it to prevent a guesstimated 0.01 degree increase in the world's temperature.

I live at Ground Zero for liberal kookiness in California. Yesterday it hit 85 degrees and I noticed every single car around me had its windows up and AC blasting. If these people REALLY cared about the environment, they'd have their windows down and AC off. Better yet, they'd sell their cars and walk. But nope -- liberal hypocrisy on parade (what's new?).

“German Chancellor Angela Merkel says the Group of Seven wealthy democracies have agreed that the world should phase out the use of fossil fuels by the end of this century”

Have agreed that the world “SHOULD”......

Never anything concrete by these morons. It will only be when the global community can fully explain the impact of their actions will I take them seriously. If Carbon is causing global warming, it only makes sense that lack of carbon will cause global cooling. At what point does that happen and how do they propose to fix it?

Commit to something that none of you will be alive to see fail. That’s political courage, I tell ya.

That's how all of these 'true believers' are. Whether we are talking about Dead Red Ted Kennedy's insistence on nationalizing healthcare (and opposing any private market or self-reliance), opposing inherited wealth (and then shielding his estate), or uber globalist Walter Cronkite...

Cronkite glad to sit at the right hand of Satan!

The bigger question is whether it will happen by the time Obie leaves office. Our enemies all see a limited window of opportunity.

Anyone have the URL for that political cartoon showing a “scientist” saying “I’ll settle that science for you” while being handed a bag full of money?

The hubris here is stifling.

As if anyone could predict what's going to happen in 85 years.

Here's my prediction; when all of the experts say go left; turn right!

Why wait?

Slap a ban on everything in their friggin’ lives that is powered by fossil fuels—AC, transportation, electricity.

Let them lead by example.

The way things are going the West won’t even exist in another 85 years (or at least be in some sort of ‘dominant’ role).

We are being sold out to China, India, and the Middle East.

Our wealth will be diverted to the third world to atone for our “sins” of ‘conquest’, ‘imperialism’, ‘consumption’, and ‘superiority’.

The globalists in their midst think they will be comfortable, no matter how the rest live.

And as it has been pointed out, those making these decisions will be dead for 65+ years by the time the note comes due.

I’m with you. Let them lead the way....Oh Wait...Germany is shutting down its wind power misadventure, if I recall correctly.

We aren’t even being sold a better mousetrap. There is no viable alternative being presented.

The baby and the bathwater are being thrown out because of self-hatred and Marxism.

We may have really long range electric cars as early as 2020 once the new dry-electrode lithium-ion and carbon-nanotube ultracapcitor batteries become widely available in the next 4-5 years. Once that happens, that will mark the beginning of the end of petroleum being used to fuel automobiles. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised by 2035-2040 we'll be looking back on the quaint age of going to the service station to pump up on gasoline or diesel fuel.

Right in there with Michael J. Fox’s flux capacitor.

We’ll be flying into the future.

They might as well agree that all humans will live on Mars by 2100.
By next year it will be something else and then 10 years later still something different.......
None of them can solve problems in even one of their cities but they think they can solve the worlds problems in a small get together? Morons..........

The same person who can’t even get Greece to meet any deadlines wants us to accept this deadline. What a farce.
