Ohio Governor John Kasich said Thursday that he has been prodded toward a presidential bid by former Florida governor Jeb Bushs failure to establish a commanding lead in the Republican primary.
Frankly, I thought that Jeb was going to just suck all the air out of the room. And it just hasnt happened. No hit on Jeb, Kasich said, explaining his consideration of a second run at the White House.
The two-term governor and former US House member, who briefly ran for president in 2000, has failed to show much strength in early polling. But his leadership of a swing state, conservative fiscal record dating to his House tenure, and folksy style have made him an appealing candidate to some Republicans.
He talks like I do, said Doug Scamman, the former speaker of the New Hampshire House, whose farm played host to Mitt Romneys 2012 presidential launch.

First let me ask has he pissed off the teachers union?
I don’t think Kasich will be president.
But I don’t look forward to losing him as governor. He had the budget balanced within a year and the economy turned around. He’s good with that kind of stuff.
Strickland the socialist democrat he preceded him...and Taft, the sticky fingered republican prior to Strickland...had left the state in a mess.
I far rather see Kasich in a senator’s seat than democrat Sherrod Brown. I’d hate to see him injured in this presidential thing so he couldn’t take that seat from Brown.
Jeb is done. His wife is a huge problem. I am not ready to appease any Hispanic period.
I think most of the reforms having to do with teacher pensions were in place before Kasich took office.
He is damn good with the people’s money.
“Translation. Jeb can’t win. “
The GOPe can fall back on Jeb’s protege Marco Rubio.
The same as Jeb, just packaged to appeal to conservatives.
The real republican vote you mean. Not the Libertarian you want.
Kasich is a stealth democrat.. you know.... A RINO..
He’s no elephant...
Ohio has no elephants in the room, best they can do is RINOs..
Blind Ohioans feel Horns..... not trunks..
Yes he is.
Sorry you don’t like his style. He is older and wiser then many of the GEN X kiddies running who had Pell grants and checked Hispanic on their college app. LMAO
“Jeb is done. His wife is a huge problem. I am not ready to appease any Hispanic period.”
Come to California. We get to pay Hispanics for letting them allow us to appease them, citizenship not required. Many thanks to the Bushes and Obamas.
He’s not a blue-blood conservative, but he’s not a Rino either. I don’t know what to call him.
Kasich: “There’s a wonderful adage in the Bible: “Don’t judge another person when he has a speck in his eye, because you have a log in your own.” I read a line like that and set it alongside the stuff of my life and come to the conclusion that judgment is not our job. It’s God’s job to sort that stuff out.
And let’s not forget that justice doesn’t always happen here on earth. When we think in our own minds that somebody is getting away with something he shouldn’t or that a certain punishment wasn’t severe enough to fit the crime, we get frustrated. Sometimes we see justice on this side of the grave, but I have the faith to believe that the ultimate judge, the highest judge, will bring justice in the long run.
But that’s justice—sometimes now but many times later. “
I do LIKE it. It’s just I don’t think most will sit through one of his hour long lectures to get what he’s driving at. He’s a real oddball...but a friendly one.
Ohioan here. I won’t vote for Kasich. Pro Common Core, MedicAid expansion, wants to tax the fracking industry on what they take out of the ground which will destroy what’s left of that. No thanks.
Sad. And they march with their flag in our country. I can add that Obama has loaded Nashville with Hispanics too. They damn sure go to the Vanderbilt ER for the best healthcare here plus they get in on every hand out.
I do not know as I am not an Ohioan. I recall Kasich as one hell of a fine Congressman who left after his balanced budget act plus finding out he was blocked from doing more great things. Honestly, I and others regretted we lost him.
I think he would be running for Vice Prez if he decided to get in. Swing state and all.
Pro common core? Why is he for that? Is it based on money or holding teachers accountable? What is his reason as Haslam in TN is for the damn thing.
Thanks for the INFO honestly as I recall when he was very good. It is a ways off before we get to Nov 2016. If he is even talking about God and saying he believes that is a huge plus over 90% out there in public office.
He would be a fine one.
