Witnesses: Semi-automatic gunfire dominated biker shootout in Waco
AP via Ft Worth Star Telegram ^

First came a few pistol shots, several witnesses said, then a barrage of rifle fire during the shootout last month at a Waco restaurant favored by bikers. But authorities still have not said how many of the dead and wounded were the result of police fire.

Police have identified only one assault weapon, a semi-automatic gun that fires high-powered ammunition, among the firearms confiscated from bikers, and that was found in a locked car after the shooting ended.

"Jennifer Cicolani of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives noted that a semi-automatic gun can shoot more bullets in less time than a small-caliber weapon."

That lulu caught my eye, as well.

So ... a small-caliber semi-auto, say, a .380, doesn't shoot more bullets in less time than a 1911 .45?

Say what?

Handguns and long guns are different critters. I wouldn't think a bad-ass biker would be using a rifle in an altercation like this. But a 1911 ... that's a different story.

Also, I know for a fact that in .38s, at least, a skilled single-action shooter who slips the hammer properly, can fire at a rate faster than a semi-auto. Just the same, I wouldn't expect most folks to know that, only single-action shooters who are into it.

“I read somewhere here that the bikers only had decorative pen knives given to them by their grandfathers ...”

HA!

The weapons hidden from anywhere in flour sacks to attempted flushing down the commode, leads the rational mind to believe that some of them were carrying under disability.

You'd think that would be intuitive. In a semi-auto, the bolt/slide has to travel twice the length of a round before it's read to fire again. In a revolver, the cylinder only has to rotate a little more than the diameter of a round (at the center of the cartridge bores) before it's ready to fire again.

“the cylinder only has to rotate “

357 revolver is my choice for self-defense.

Hope if it came to that, I would have my speed-loader prepped.

Is that from Waco?

That photo has nothing to do with Waco. Gotta question the motives of the poster.

Well, the article did say the police only found one assault weapon, locked in a car, afterwards. Do you have other info?

Are assault rifles the only semi-auto weapons out there? What about Glock 43s?

“357 revolver is my choice for self-defense.”

.357 is my choice when I want an extra lane at the indoor range.

Another looney site.

Mentions thousands of rounds fired by police. We all know that was some lawyer speak to make the Don Carlos suit sound bigger and that this article intentionally misquotes the filing, but that would be like over a hundred rounds per cop. The gangstas here talk about he police sharpshooters. Really. Thousands of rounds by 14 sharpshooters and only 9 dead ...

Note the credibility of the folks quoted word-for-word who differtiate between the sound of assault rifles, and small caliber, and those who apparently think "high caliber" is the same as semi-auto while "small caliber" might be an official Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle, who the hell knows? The reporter I'll bet doesn't.

[Swanton] confirmed that some officers carry semi-automatic weapons, which fire a single shot with every pull of the trigger and automatically reload between shots.

Well ... yeah, sure, Dad! ... Duh! Just like a double-action revolver. Hello??? I'm supposed to believe that among 170 red-blooded Texans with legal carry permits, there wouldn't be a few? So ... Swanton's point is ... ? That he's a dolt? The journalist is looking smart by comparison, and the journalist has all the inquisitive comprehension of a dairy cow

Six witnesses interviewed by the AP describe a melee that began with a few pistol shots but was dominated by semi-automatic gunfire.

Wha ...? Huh?

And by the way, Crystal Palace, check your tagline. You're stepping on it.

S&W .357 Mag-V8. It is large so I do not use it for concealed carry.

Like it very much. Need to spend more time on the range with it!

I am a female but I have large hand. Genetics from my Dad. Others might prefer something smaller. But this is a very reliable weapon of choice for perps (home defense) or cottonmouths at the farm

For concealed carry I use a 38 special. I am licensed.

'and automatically reload between shots.'

"Well ... yeah, sure, Dad! ... Duh! Just like a double-action revolver."

Only if you are referring to this one:

Question away! It’s one of the photos used to mark the JBT (Jack Booted Thugs) Ping List.

It’s a pretty good example of the aftermath of cops gone wild.

When cops do something extraordinarily good, the graphic is Andy Griffith and Barney Fife...

That picture shows nothing ... to someone who fails to look. But it shows quite a lot to folks who see.

Or are you afraid somebody's going to make fun of your for being a "conspiracy nut"?

Dear, the reporter writes that Swanton referred to semi-automatic weapons, which fire a single shot with every pull of the trigger and automatically reload between shots. A double-action wheel gun does essentially the same thing. It "reloads" through a different mechanism, that's all

My guess is that either the reporter or Swanton or both failed to catch the nuance that was more likely referring to the dif between full auto and semi-auto. Because most certainly both the double-action revolver and the semi-auto essentially "automatically reload between shots" with "every pull of the trigger," until empty, that is.

But like I say, a doorknob has more brainpower than an alligator, so I get that it went over your head.

I sincerely doubt that any of the bikers were carrying single-action revolvers.

It's probably just as good that I blacked out and ignored that story. Will you add me to your list, please?

The two cops that did that should be in jail, or at the very least, now be holding jobs very, very far away from anything having to do with authority. Despicable.

Thank you for asking and giving me a chance to ‘splain, rather than merely assuming the worst.
