A surgically damaged man appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair, and the applause is mandatory. There are some who call this latest turn in the sexual revolution radical or transformative. Yet, in reality, the only thing radical about Bruce Jenners transformation into Caitlyn is the harm to his body, inflicted in a desperate quest to be something that hes most assuredly not: a woman.
The transgender movement is but one small branch of the immense, self-regarding tree of the sexual revolution, and since it shares the same logic as such cultural catastrophes as no-fault divorce and abortion on demand, its acceptance by elite culture was and is a foregone conclusion. After all, if the sexual revolutionaries believe with religious fervor that personal fulfillment and self-actualization are so important that its worth inflicting a grisly death on a wholly innocent baby to preserve, then a little gender-reassignment surgery is just one more, small step for (person)kind.
p>All of this self-regard comes at high cost. To those who say that Bruce Jenners body is his own that he can do what he wants with it realize that during this process his many children lost a father, and his wife lost a husband. These losses occur during every transition, as the sexual revolution demands upon pain of shame and banishment that family members treat fathers as mothers, sons as daughters, and husbands as wives. The Jenner/Kardashian clan has expressed support (though Kris and Kylie Jenner are still obviously struggling), but really, what other option did they have? For people who inhabit the pop-culture tribe, you disapprove of sexual radicalism at your own very high professional risk.
The only thing radical about Bruce Jenners transformation into Caitlyn is the harm to his body, inflicted in a desperate quest to be something that hes most assuredly not: a woman.
Were growing increasingly accustomed to bearing the costs of sexual selfishness and radical personal autonomy. Robert Putnams new book, Our Kids, reads like one long treatise on what happens when families fall apart. The battle over same-sex marriage treats adult sexual fulfillment as the highest social good, one worth trampling core civil liberties to enact and preserve. In spite of this obvious cost, liberals recently exulted over Gallup-poll results showing that Americans had shift[ed] left on virtually every significant social issue with increasing support for divorce, extramarital sex, gay sex, polygamy, and adultery. The formula for cultural decay is by now quite clear: Short-term gratification leads to longer-term misery. Yet the sexual revolutionaries maintain their cultural grip by owning the pleasure and blaming others for the pain.
Liberals trumpet the flexible family relationships that allow people to escape dysfunctional unions. As for the poverty, depression, and increasing inequality between two-parent families and the transient remainder? Well, thats the fault of globalization, insufficient funding for public schools, and the war on unions. Leftists applaud a sexual libertinism that allows a person to enjoy a life of play and maximize their pleasure. As for the feelings of guilt, shame, and confusion that accompany a life of casual sexual intimacy? Well, thats the fault of religious scolds or insensitive and predatory men.
The one-sentence philosophical summary of the sexual revolutionary is My body is my business. Yet that comes with an unspoken corollary: Consequences be damned. While there are necessary legal and political responses to sexual radicalism (preserving religious liberty and working to ban abortion is a good start), the true response to these trends isnt encapsulated by the phrase there oughta be a law but rather there oughta be a culture.
There is no single person who can shift an entire culture, much less materially restrain cultural drift, but we can each do something. Increasingly, that something means resisting the temptation to stay silent, to acquiesce in absurdities for the sake of temporary social (or social-media) peace. Intimidated silence advances the cause of sexual radicalism every bit as much as enthusiastic acceptance. By refusing to speak, we contribute to the notion that even conservatives understand that something is wrong something is shameful about our own deepest beliefs.
Why does the intolerant Left so vigilantly police speech introducing even a Twitter bot to automate the scolding about the correct gender pronoun to use in reference to Jenner? Because they know speech including simple pronouns matters. Dont consent. Laverne Cox is not a woman, and neither is Caitlyn Jenner. He is a man with breast implants. Hes always been a man, and he will always be a man. Yes, hes deeply troubled. Our hearts go out to him in his pain, but the answer is not found in radical self-regard, and its certainly not found in surgical mutilation. He is a man created in Gods image, yet a man experiencing deep anguish about his very creation. He needs our prayers, not our applause.

What movie is that pic from?
Applause? I believe what they’re hearing is laughfter.
I feel the same about him as I did about Michael Jackson. If you are THAT unhappy with the way that your Creator made you, you have some real serious issues.
Ad hominem. It’s not about me. I just hate hypocrisy, on either side of the aisle. I feel we don’t have the right to rip the libs for their utter hypocrisy unless we attempt to remove it from our side.
When she was FL, Laura Bush WAS flayed for her traffic fatality on scorning left wing sites. Never here. It may have been mentioned here, but the treatment was more of What a shame; could happen to anyone. A lot of FReepers have probably rear ended other cars with theirs. Not everyone has done it on the curvy fast PCH with a grandma in front who may have lost control of her steering wheel. Yes, Bruce’s fault, but rear ending happens daily on the roads. No excuse but accidents do happen.
Who the hell do you think you are?
Caitlyn used to be THE most popular name for girls (real girls). Now it’s the moniker of a surgically disfigured sicko.
In terms of future popularity it’s probably going to go the way of Adolph.
I tend to agree. What kind of inner torture or debased, demented way of thinking could motivate somebody to subject themselves to the abuse and mutilation of their own bodies, not to mention enduring the contempt and ridicule that most assuredly would come from clear thinking people?
He is not brave, as some suggest, but very much deluded and confused. I understand that people that do such things have a far higher incidence of suicide . . . I suppose because the make-over does nothing to solve the root cause of their torment.
I have always wondered why any ethical doctor would preform sex change surgery. The long term physical affects of the surgery and especially the hormone treatments have to place the person having the surgery at greater risk of heart disease and maybe cancer. But doing this surgery to satisfy someone’s sexual fantasy the surgeon is shortening the life of the patient.
We’re all born with a proclivity for sin of all kinds. If any of us could be perfect; Christ wouldn’t have had to die. That doesn’t mean that we have to give in and follow our impulses just because it’s hard not to.
All that is required of Christians is to relate to Jenner what is going to transpire if he doesn’t repent and ask to be forgiven in the name of the sacrifice of Jesus, Our Savior. Christians aren’t required to give succor and support to one who continues to disobey The Word of God. We are rather to use The Word to reprove and exhort. Neither are we required, as Christians to eat with, associate with or have fellowship with those who defy His Word in spite of warnings. That particular falsity has evolved over time and has been used to feed many an evil cause.
Anyone who truly cares for one afflicted in this way will attempt to save their soul not their diseased mind and body.
Christians are to be servants of God, not of evildoers.
Applause isn’t the same as clap.
What about the woman he killed? What about the pain he has caused that family? Will the ESPY’s mention this poor woman? Did Vanity Fair?
I hope he is sued for everything he has.
No matter how you cut it, a lopadicoffme is nothing more than sexual mutilation.
Twenty-five years ago the American Psychiatric Association called what Jenner has a mental disorder.
Yes. Just like the vulgar Weimar Republic and we know the insanity and idol that environment created for the idiot Hitler Youth who believed whatever the “culture” vomited out and placed on a platform.
“Just” Republics are to promote “public virtue” always (Montesquieu). When you promote vile, evil behaviors and lies (He is a She), then that deforms the next generation. Children embed even irrational ideas since they are not capable of Reason in such a toxic, powerful environment where pictures are worth a thousand words to little children.
Normalizing evil, vile use of the body, like sodomy, is what the muslims do in Afghanistan (harem boys) and we all know how those boys grow up to hate and mutilate women and lust after males and boys and goats.
Culture matters-—and promoting Virtue is all that a Just Republic is supposed to do. Just Law can NOT promote evil, or vile use of human beings—they are unconstitutional, Null and Void-—CIVIL society demands people not deprived of DIGNITY ever—— which can’t encourage using human beings as a Means to an End-—like slavery, prostitution, sodomy marriage etc. can NOT be promoted in “laws” or culture. It has to be vilified (shamed) in a civil society where Individual Natural Rights are based on Right Reason (natural laws) and God’s Laws..
And the truth is that this is not an act of anguish on Jenner's part. It is an act of ultimate rebellion against his Creator.
Does the clay jar ask its creator, "Why have you made me thus?" So it follows: what right have we, who in truth are deserving only of God's wrath and judgment, to demand an explanation from the God of the Universe who knew us before we were knitted together in our mothers' wombs?
Your pithy, self-righteous demand that we ignore the sin smacks of cheap grace. And if Christ's sacrifice for my ongoing sinfulness is any indication, grace is astonishingly expensive.
Should we pray for Jenner? Absolutely. On the other hand, should we pat him on the back and tell him it's okay, that it's not his fault he's so tortured, that it's God's fault for making him so confused? Absolutely not.
It is better to tell the truth that hurts once and then heals, than to perpetuate a lie that kills always.
This poor, mentally tortured (man) could be given a clitoris and menstrual cycles and (he) will still not feel complete as a woman.
A brain transplant from a woman might work but, with his luck, it would be from a woman who was mentally tortured even after (she) was transgendered into a man.
(circus music)
I simply can’t fathom WHY someone born a man would actually WANT to have all the problems that go along with *being* a woman - the monthly menstrual cramps for years, the pains of childbirth, and all the other *stuff* that women are subject to in this life. - I was born a woman; there have been good and bad things that go along with the territory. - Bruce-Caitlyn will, I suspect, not find life as Caitlyn, the woman. to be the epitome of perfection.
+1
Why are we publicizing this? Insane.
The cover on Vanity Fair is no doubt the most photo shopped cover ever produced. Where's the hue and cry over making this freak look anything like a woman?
