The pages were blacked out by the Bush administration on national security grounds.
We cannot let page after page of blanked-out documents be obscured by a veil, Paul said at a packed Capitol press conference on Tuesday, flanked by fellow lawmakers and families of victims of the 2001 attack. We owe it to these families, and we cannot let this lack of transparency erode trust and make us feel less secure.
For years, Jones and other lawmakers have been fighting for the release of the pages, which are believed to paint senior officials within Saudi Arabia as complicit in the terror attacks.
We all are calling today for the release of these 28 pages, Paul said.
The 28 pages are very important and will, I think, inform the American people and, in so doing, will cause the American government to reconsider the nature of our relationship with Saudi Arabia, Graham said on Tuesday.
But beyond that, these are emblematic of a pattern of withholding information unnecessarily and to the detriment of the American people.
Some lawmakers who have read the pages disagree with their characterization about Saudi Arabia, Osama bin Laden's home country.
Perhaps surprisingly, Saudi Arabia supports releasing the pages. Keeping them secret, the kingdom has said, has allowed people to suspect that their contents are worse than they actually are.

I’ve got no issue with release the 28 pages as they will finally expose the clinton and bushes as being a bunch of Saudi royalty suck ups...
We had a revolution to leave the Britain royals only to become toadies of the Islamo-inbred-nazi royals of Saudi Arabia...
On issues on protecting our rights, Rand Paul is the only one in the Republican Party doing that. I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of US citizens agree with Rand Paul on these issues.

Paul has been hit by “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” fairy.
Releasing all information doesn't necessarily mean we could get the results expected.
I would characterize this as "Randstanding". IMO this is being emphasized as part of his campaign highlighting his libeertarian streak and not necessarily with the intent of the best interests of the people of the US. It will get him the truther vote though.
If Saudis are heavily damaged by the documents, it could destroy the petro dollar in a hurry.
That being said, the federal government is and has been hopelessly infiltrated and compromised by international elites and jihadists and the documents need to be released.
Good point, but there may be a lot in there about Clinton’s failures. That was speculated on at the time of the 911 report and Bush just went along with it. At that point the RATS knew they could control Bush.
The situation will develop if the redacted documents aren't released the government is hiding something. That is always the argument the truthers use.
If they are released and harm a candidate (or political party) then it will be argued that the realease was politicized.
No doubt now that the issue is percolating it will hurt someone.
I just don't want a generic data dump for those purposes. There may be information that compromises intelligence sources or techniques (cell phone tracking of terrorists was a big thing right after 9-11 until the MSM let the cat out of the bag).
Same stuff Sandy Berger stole from the National Archives and was deleted from the 9-11 TV movie that was only shown once, pre-edited, and never sold on dvd. Also in Richard Miniter’s Losing BiIn Laden. It’s already out there and with a media unwilling to put sunshine on the Clinton family, it doesn’t matter.
Perhaps surprisingly, Saudi Arabia supports releasing the pages. Keeping them secret, the kingdom has said, has allowed people to suspect that their contents are worse than they actually are.
Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.[Posted on 01/31/2013 5:08:50 PM PST by xzins]
Rand Slams Congress for Funding Egypt's Generals: 'How Does Your Conscience Feel Now?'Sen. Rand Paul is hammering his fellow senators for keeping billions in financial aid flowing to Egypt's military -- even as Cairo's security forces massacre anti-government activists. Running against Bush worked twice for Obama. Maybe it will help Paul as well. Then he can promise to continue the fabulously effective Obama foreign policies.
Sure it implicates the Saudi’s as our enemies and the American people have a right to know. I stand with Rand
