Stop pretending — Donald Trump is not running for president

When Trump declared to the Republican Party of Iowa’s Lincoln Dinner that he is going to make an announcement in June that’s “going to surprise a lot of people,” he wasn’t preparing to launch his long-awaited candidacy. He was simply doing what he always does: Promote the Donald. Generate headlines. Get people talking.

His June announcement is guaranteed to raise all of the excitement of such previous bids for publicity as “Donald Trump Announces Men’s Fragrance” (March 24), “Donald Trump Announces Phil Mickelson Villa at Trump National Doral” (March 5), “Donald Trump Announces Florida International University as new Home for Miss Universe” (Dec. 11) and the game-changing, envelope-pushing, earth’s-orbit-reversing, “Donald Trump Announces Partnership with Prestwick Airport” (Nov. 14).

On March 18, Trump made his big announcement that he was about to form a presidential exploratory committee. All of the political press covered it. But it was pure Trump — a way to say something that attracts suckers in the press without actually doing anything.

Presidential campaigns have to register with the Federal Election Commission. Exploratory committees do not. They don’t have to do much of anything except avoid getting involved in a presidential campaign, which would trigger FEC regulations.

He will never do the financial disclosure necessary.

He is not running.

I once thought he had something to contribute. Then, with all his money, he couldn’t come up with Obama’s educational records.

Phooey on him.

All I am saying is nobody is saying that except Trump.

My point was... Obama SAID the same thing 209 times but that didn't make it anymore real than Trump's current bloviating about bringing jobs back.

Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see and you'll be immunized against Bull$hit.

Well someone else should stand up for American jobs.

That is what I am saying.

Trump is.

Whether he’s telling the truth or not, is what you I believe are saying.

What I’m saying is at least he’s saying he will bring back American jobs.

Nobody else it saying that.

I get your point friend.

That, however, is where the problem lies.

The ONLY jobs that will be coming back are the ones that never left.. but are now rewarded with lower pay.

Here’s the thing.

Earlier, I typed out some sources and references for you re: Ted Cruz and jobs, including his website.

But I backspaced out of it all because, as I said, it’s not worth it. You don’t understand, nor do you care to understand the root of job losses. All you want is something that will feed your obsessive fixation tendencies.

You’ve found that in Trump, who happens to be repeating some of the keywords of your oft-repeated mantra.

So it’s off to the races for you. Have fun.

If I had to bet right now I’d bet Trump is running. We will know June 16th. If he runs its fine with me. He will at the very least keep the rest of these guys honest. I think he’s nuts to give up a dreamlife for the crappiest job in America but he may do it. It will liven things up for sure.

He will be a distraction in multiple ways. He will have the Republicans looking like asses on mainstream television.

” He will have the Republicans looking like asses on mainstream television.”

That won’t be hard. :-)

“I feel he’ll announce he’s running in two weeks, and I also predict as things stand right now, he’ll be our next president.”

That is a Dick Morris-esque prediction right there. Trump is never going to run for President, and he sure as hell will never get elected President.

I can’t say I don’t agree with both statements.

On the other hand I suppose a lot of people don’t like Trump as they have watched his show. I have not. I am not at all familiar with this reaction against him but I suspect it is based on the show and his personality. It could be they are right, but it really bugs me that the illegal problem is not more center stage. Living in Phx and watching it turn to like 40 percent of them is driving me crazy. They all in every store, every hospital, the traffic has become clogged with them, they have millions of kids each one, and are looking all the time for some sort of help. The Walmart parking lot is crowded with them looking for jobs, the crime has gone up due to illegals. I have a friend in NM, she says its worse, and they are a sanctuary state. It’s a big problem. One guy talking about it? Even Tancredo knew the story, of course no one gave Tancredo any consideration. He had a very low percentage of voters, and may have not been a good choice on other grounds but why is it not that others see this as the major problem it is. Braggadocio or whatever, at least Trump has listed it as something on his platform.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply (#54). You're right about Trump tackling the illegals problem head-on. He is also one of the few out there talking about the loss of American industry.

But I'm very, very disappointed about his stand regarding Geller. Perhaps I'm just looking for the non-existent perfect candidate.

I don’t like Trump because as a NYer, I’ve had to put up with his showboating for 40 years now. And who can forget his marriage to Marla Maples when, if I remember correctly, he marched her down the aisle dressed in white while she was pregnant! And then there’s his gilding of everything he touches in the city - including General Sherman and his horse. And worst of all? His instances on eating pizza with a knife and fork.

Oh, and The Donald: Wollman Rink was 30 years ago. You haven’t done anything for the city since.

No.... no.... Sorry but no. Trump has “discussed” running for president 7 times. 7. He is not running. And if he did, it would be taken as a joke by the populous.
He is the king of propoganda. He says the things that get us excited. Things that we wish could happen in a moments notice. He has no power to make anything he discusses happen, by the way.

Point is, he is promoting a new book. A new TV show. A new casino.
He will never release his financial records. He will never be honest with America. He is someone in power who lies to get what he wants.

He is such a ridiculous fraud, that if he ran, I would expect it would be to bloody other GOP candidates to soften the field up for Hillary.

He will never run. Ask yourself one question, has he ever debated anyone?

The other part is financial disclosure. Ain’t gonna happen.
