The Susan G Koman foundation called my house a few times, we never donated to them since we found out they give money to Planned Parenthood, refuse to give any money to any organization that helps fund abortion.
My wife gave money to a pro-life group, then I did a search of them.
Now she realizes she had been taken to the cleaners by a slush fund.

My caller I.D. gave this number: 509-252-0796. Gave no caller identification except that it was from Spokane. It was an automated call that said they were calling on the behalf of Breast Cancer Research. They asked if I was over 25? I answered “yes.” The woman’s voice then says, “I did not get your answer, could you repeat your answer?” When I repeated my answer, the introduction started over. Upon checking at 800notes, people were very irritated and saying it was a scam. I hate to think what they are able to scam when their auto caller works.
Some try to imitate legitimate charities, such as the Disabled Veterans National Foundation. Its name is quite similar to Disabled American Veterans (DAV)—the real charity, which has a 4 star rating.
The DVNF will send you a lot of patriotic junk, making you feel obligated to give but ignore it, it’s just sent on speculation. Damn near as corrupt as the Clinton Foundation.

The above site has all the info on the various organizations. I gave to Wounded Warriors once. Have heard some not nice things about it though - but not sure how true they are.
I used to give to Prison Fellowship (Angel Tree), but over the years they have gotten pretty top heavy with less and less going to the actual services.
We give to three things locally that we can help out with too and keeps us in touch with things.
It’s like that with all charities.

Give transportation for treatments- pay for wigs - give gas/grocery gift cards directly to patients -
If people donated locally - ,many more people would actually get the help/money instead of it disappearing into insane salaries/etc///

The “help the veterans” charities are really bad too. Give direct and give local for best results.
A few years ago we decided to also give locally, like food pantries, our health care district, and a food bin in a local church, which then gives out the food on Fridays, from a small store front in town.
However, we also like Samaritan’s Purse, Franklin Graham’s project.
Especially the ‘Operation Shoe Boxes’ is it? - in Nov., for Christmas. It is so much fun putting together those ‘shoe boxes.’ If one prefers not to put 1 or 2 together, one can give money for a box or two.
It’s so bad the solicitation letters we get in the mail. Spouse was ranting just the other day.
Of course it all gets tossed into ‘recycle.’ We are FORCED to take time to handle all this (junk) mail, and then HAVE to recycle it. rrrrr
The “Do Not Call” registry is one of the many failures of government. First, charities and political organizations are exempt. Second, the law is not being enforced. My land line is inundated with calls of all types every day from businesses, charities, religious groups, scammers, and political groups.
Now I’m seeing an increase in unwanted calls to my unlisted cell phone. Enforce the Do Not Call a Registry, and give consumers the ability to ban political and charity solicitation, and you’ll see a quick end to the scam charities. The technology certainly exists to identify the violators and prosecute them.
P.S. I’m also tired of my local town permitting charities to fund raise at major intersections. Yesterday, it seemed like every time I stopped at a light, people with buckets swarmed into the streets soliciting donations from drivers of stopped cards.
Yes; the “Do Not Call” registry is just another scam. And the cops, firemen, etc., accosting people at intersections borders on extortion. They’re looking at your license plate; they can find out who you are. And they tie up traffic, causing accidents. I hate those people!
When asked for donations, we politely say that all of our charitable donations go through our church. We do help support a local pet spay-neuter clinic where we know the money is used correctly. Also a few very personal projects.
I’ve heard that some churches fund tuition and expenses for members’ kids to attend Christian schools or do home schooling. Our church is too small and can’t do that but it’s a great idea. Supporting missions is great, but if we have no dedicated, intelligent young people who’ll go to the mission field, that’s a problem for missions. I’d love to find a trustworthy organization to donate to to help children get a true education re America.
Possibly, but one must consider the track record and maintain skepticism of the source.

We give to our local pregnancy help center, which is supported by several local churches of different denominations. They use the money well.
At least corrupt Big Charity doesn't stick guns in peoples' faces and take their money by force. That's left to Big Government to do ...
I have gotten caught by several of these, most notably the BCS (coincidentally while my sister was dying of IBC). Even though we have been a bit strapped I felt guilty so said I would “pledge” to send money.
They never got anything from me. After I studied up on them, I knew it was mostly a scam.
Another reason NOT to give credit over the phone directly, under duress. Tell them you’ll get them a check - if they pass your scrutiny.
