'Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.' -- Mencken

No regime is more Puritan than a Progressive Tyranny. They hate happiness. They love control.

Answer: Tax revenue from tobacco sales.

Vaping is not taxed yet. But it will be. Studies apparently show that vaping will pass the tobacco industry sometime in the early 2020’s as the number one way people consume nicotine.

First it was e-cigs, and now everywhere I go I see at least half of the people in any group of smokers using a vape.

No smoke = no tar, no tar = better on body. Also the liquid used in vapes has about 100* less chemicals in it, then cigarettes do. If the government really cared they would be pushing vapes as a much less harmful alternative to smoking.

But it’s not about public health. It’s about career politician health and their big business tobacco kickbacks and tax revenue.

It’s also pretty frigging ironic too.

The government nanny types demonizing smokers, all the commercials demonizing smokers, all the laws demonizing smokers, then someone comes up with a way that smokers can “smoke”, with no offensive odor, no second hand danger(if there ever was such a thing), no ash or litter from butts.
So then ecigs roll around and they are all suddenly super duper against ecigs, but no one really has a good reason why. The closest argument is “well there is a cloud, and it looks like smoke so it’s smoking.”

Bitter losers telling people how to live their lives. Shutup already.

I love it when random strangers come up to me and criticize my lifestyle choices, I always tell them to go pound sand, the shocked look on peoples faces who think they know better is priceless.

Of all the substances in tobacco smoke that are harmful, nicotine itself is pretty far down the list. A delivery device that eliminates most of these substances should please any health nazi. I don’t smoke and I don’t like smoke where I breathe. E-cigarettes seem like a wonderful help with a difficult addiction.

Why Is the CDC So Vehemently Anti-Vaping?

Because when people start vapeing they stop smoking!

It's a lot cheaper, tastes a whole lot better, and doesn't stink or turn you teeth brown.

RJR and friends hate it, and so do the tax leeches.

Senator Jay Rockefeller (D., W.Va.) tore into executives of two major e-cigarette companies: “I’m ashamed of you. I don’t know how you go to sleep at night. I don’t know what gets you to work in the morning except the color green of dollars. You are what is wrong with this country.”

One more correctly and aptly make that same statement of Herr Rockefeller.

I am one of those that don’t care if people smoke cigs. I don’t care where, but I do have a suspecion that these Vape things are just ways pot smokers use to hide their smoking it in public venues.

Please don’t tell me they don’t make some concentrate stuff and put it in there. I know they do.

Follow the money

Yup. The 'why' is because it threatens the tobacco industry.

"Vaping" is great. It lets the folks who like to do that sort of thing have their kick without infringing on everybody else. Viva la vape!

When the first “e-cig” was introduced, there was much medical hoopla about it being “the perfect drug delivery device”. Not a small compliment (?), it was developed at very high cost.

If it ends the gross practice of throwing burning trash as if the world were their ashtray, that’s a net positive.

Of course, we all know that the Rockefellers have never pursued the ‘color green of dollars’.

Ask the nostril of Waxman why he opposes tobacco use and not the marketing of homosex? Average lifespan of male queers is about 15 years shorter than that of a smoker. Clearly, it is not about concern for public health.

I’ve vaped for years.

It has helped me to quit smoking several times, but now I do it because I enjoy it and use low levels of nicotine.

Back when I started, you had to order everything online, so if you didn’t time your orders right, and ran out, there was a tendency to go back to regular cigarettes (analogs, in the vernacular).

Nowadays, there are retail vape establishments popping up everywhere, so you can have a good chance of being able to stay stocked and not slip back to cigarettes, which are available just about everywhere despite being so supposedly deadly.

Vaping can take some experimenting. Propylene Glycol, as the article mentions, is just one delivery system. Some liquids use vegetable glycerine. Both have different characteristics and either can cause some people to have adverse reactions (scratchy throat, pasty mouth - nothing too severe). But vendors are everywhere now, and have an incredible assortment of tobacco and non-tabacco flavors, with and without nicotine, and with blends of PG and VG. With a bit of effort, you can find the brand or brands that work best for you.

Another problem when e-cigs first appeared were the devices themselves. There are several technologies that have themselves out and prices have dropped. The device I use now is rechargeable, and lets you control either the voltage or the wattage (higher can be harsher, but can have more flavor depending on the ingredients). Also allows control of the air mixture, and lets you vape while charging.

The devices and the liquids have come a long way and it’s an exciting technology. As mentioned, it can probably be used for nefarious ends, like any technology. I don’t have any experience with the pot side of it, although I’ve heard it’s out there. I suspect the oils would cause problems with the vaporizers, but someone has likely solved them. I believe the history of vaporizing pot with various methods goes back years before e-cigarettes were developed.

Because propaganda trumps actual research, as in the “second hand smoke” scam.
