Cruz- This bill was a missed opportunity. If Congress had acted to defend our constitutional authority if Congress had adopted the Cruz-Toomey amendment then we would be able to stop a bad Iran deal. Instead, the odds are now overwhelming that under these ground rules President Obama will negotiate, and Congress will acquiesce to, a terrible deal that allows Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and will endanger the lives of millions of Americans and our allies.
I voted no on cloture because we should have insisted on amendments to put real teeth in this bill. Ultimately, I voted yes on final passage because it may delay, slightly, President Obamas ability to lift the Iran sanctions and it ensures we will have a Congressional debate on the merits of the Iran deal. I will continue to lead the fight to prevent the Islamic Republic of Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to protect the national security of America and our allies.

You are correct. There are Senate rules that call for voting the ‘wrong’ way so that time is banked to raise motions that can delay or steer the debates off course. The cloture vote was the crucial vote. Once cloture passed, there was nothing else to do except be part of the issue vote so that participation would be allowed.
How much delay can be gained is a question.
Mark Levin just mentioned a Congressional Scandal involving McConnell and Obamacare exemptions. It would be great if Ted Cruz plays hardball and presses McConnell to torpedo the Iran vote. McConnell is a menace, a true abomination to America. The fact that the Left is starting to sing his praises should confirm to Americans the nature of McConnell’s duplicitous character.
Okay. You meant on this one vote. I knew that from the headline. Cruz said why he voted Yes in the article. Cruz and Cotton are not as firmly opposed on this as your sentence about “sides” indicated.
Tom Cotton only no vote.
Cruz should have stood with Cotton.
If Cruz wasn't the most Conservative on the hill I would differ, but as it is
we're all in a pickle here and only a True Conservative President can lead us out.
This.
I think Sen. Cruz is just choosing his battlefield. No bill would mean no review. Here, the Gop-e will likely vote to disapprove, and the president will veto.
Ultimately, I think Sen. Cruz wants to focus the issue on the Dems who won’t override the veto- turning their backs on Israel... that’s the battle he wants to fight.
As to this vote, he would have been futilely fighting the entire GOP; as to the fight over the veto, he’s targeting Dems alone on Israel. I think he wants that issue.
Ted is pretty honest... politicians HATE THAT......
There’s a quote that completely applies to liberals on FR and Ted Cruz.
James Bond: Do you expect me to talk?
Auric Goldfinger: No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!
Thats what it’s all about. They want him dead politically and unable to threaten the lesser evil RINOs they mewl on their knees for every election.
Way too many Freepers are purists who don’t understand that sometimes, there are no good options, period. They bore me frankly.
We tried warning people...
No, it was not a BAD vote, but it was also not a GOOD vote. It was a neutral vote that allows Cruz to slow down the process of review. In other words he can create delay because he can get into the process of working the bill.
He is trying to delay the bad deal with Iran. The question is, is there something else that can be done during the delay that can reverse course on the whole issue?
Mark Levin just mentioned a huge scandal with hard evidence involving the republican leadership (McConnell, Boehner) and Obama concerning Obamacare exemption subsidies. Evidence now exists to go into court and subpoena McConnell and Boehner along with Rand Paul. to have them testify to issues involving criminal fraud.
Perhaps Cruz can benefit from a criminal investigation that can bring McConnell down several notches. We will see.
Way too many Freepers don’t have a bone in their back. They sicken me frankly.
yeah, you’re a political Rambo, and Cruz is a wimp. Got it.
Come back when you’ve ever accomplished anything. I won’t hold my breath.
Thurston, you simply aren’t that important in the big scheme.
And yet, one of us is quoted every day in the media, and one is not. One is eaten up with wealth envy, one is not.
Oh and when you learn to read, lets see if your brilliant mind can determine who I am ultimately defending here even though I disagree with his vote.
Probably why the media ranks lower than congress on most polls.
Envy....actually no.
“So surrendering the Treaty power of the US Constitution somehow helps elect conservatives in 2016? That is pretzel logic.”
Totally agree.
Agreed...
