Ted Cruz: Why I voted YES for Corker Iran bill
TheRightscoop ^ | 5/7/2015 | RightScoop

Posted on 05/07/2015 3:55:30 PM PDT by gwgn02

Cruz- “This bill was a missed opportunity. If Congress had acted to defend our constitutional authority – if Congress had adopted the Cruz-Toomey amendment – then we would be able to stop a bad Iran deal. Instead, the odds are now overwhelming that under these ground rules President Obama will negotiate, and Congress will acquiesce to, a terrible deal that allows Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and will endanger the lives of millions of Americans and our allies.

“I voted no on cloture because we should have insisted on amendments to put real teeth in this bill. Ultimately, I voted yes on final passage because it may delay, slightly, President Obama’s ability to lift the Iran sanctions and it ensures we will have a Congressional debate on the merits of the Iran deal. I will continue to lead the fight to prevent the Islamic Republic of Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to protect the national security of America and our allies.”

Yea but he did it ‘conservatively”. Thats the important thing. And I know it for a fact because I got told right here that if I didn’t vote for him I hated my country and liberalism would win so it logically HAD to be conservative on his part. Because it boggles the mind to think that actual conservatives would willingly destroy their credibility on a public forum to vote for a liberal POS and then defend it for over 2 years. I mean how idiotic would a person have to be?

OR fr had a bunch of open liars spewing complete propaganda.

Debate is useless. Obama can put ANYTHING into the “deal” now. He could theoretically agree to wipe out our own nuclear arsenal. And so long as he gets 34 democrats to vote with him, he’ll have ACTUAL CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL.

I don’t see how delaying the lifting of sanctions for one month is of any real value, when it comes in exchange for giving Obama legal cover for whatever he does.

I asked about Reagan, not Goldwater.

And Goldwater damaged Goldwater. Those ads were not so formidable as to not hit back twice as hard with facts versus rhetoric, just for one. How do you think Reagan won out eventually after 1976?

Be sure to thank the ‘lesser evil’ voters that are 100% responsible for electing the Republicans that bade it all possible. Because THEY put those Republicans into power, not those that voted for conservatives. We didn’t do it. Democrat liberals didn’t do it. Republican “Lesser Evil” voters did it.

It’s not about a “spine” with the GOP-e. It’s about being collaborators.

Cruz would have enough backing to create a second party (a conservative one) and break the deadlock this Uniparty has on DC. I do not see him taking advantage of it.

All of you and most on this thread do not understand the politics of this whole issue.

But I am not criticizing you or anyone else here or putting anyone down in any manner although it may seem that I am.

The politics here are damned convoluted. There’s really not much Ted Cruz or anyone else can do to make sense of it because Mitch McConnell is a master of confusion and half-truths and this bill reflects his deception.

Here’s what Ted Cruz said about the bill yesterday just before he voted NO on cloture which is actually the more important vote.

“Thus, Corker-Cardin motion of disapproval reverses the ordinary presumptions. Instead of the President needing 67 Senate votes to ratify the Iran deal, it would now require 67 votes to stop an Iran deal.”

Here’s the link:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3286924/posts?page=2#2

To get clarity and I’ll try to make it short, here’s a modified repost:

The Bill as it is written cedes treaty authority of the US Senate in a convoluted manner. Usually for treaties, the US Senate will pass or not pass a treaty. The President doesn’t have a say in the process of passing or not passing it. The President can have negotiations with the Senate but the authority for approval or disapproval of a treaty always lies within the Senate as stated in the Constitution and it requires 2/3’s to approve/ratify a treaty.

What McConnell has done is to take this evaluation of a treaty and change the rules on how it is voted on and the process of making it law. Rather than the Senate having the final say over this treaty, McConnell has made it so that Obama will have the final say and if he doesn’t like the Iran resolution passed by the Senate and sent to him, then he can VETO it.

Excuse me. Veto? Veto the disapproval of a treaty?

That’s what McConnell has foisted on everyone; damn him.

NOW AND NEXT ... the Senate will get the Iran plan from Obama and they will “review it”. And after they review it they will pass a resolution of approval or disapproval and SEND IT TO OBAMA FOR HIS SIGNATURE! WTF?

IMPORTANTLY, while the Senate is doing the “reviewing”, Obama’s Iran plan lies in suspense pending the deliberation of the Senate. IT IS THE INTEREST OF AMERICA’S FUTURE TO MAKE SURE THIS PERIOD OF SUSPENSE IS DELAYED AS LONG AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. And that is why Ted Cruz voted YES so that he can get in there and delay this son of a bitch to the maximum extent possible.

I know that Ted Cruz is loved by many wealthy Jewish Americans and also by a huge majority of Israelis. I am sure he huddled up with them and agreed to delay this son of a bitch because this vote is for the future existence of Israel. Netanyahu has been in the news everyday this week about this vote and he and Cruz talk frequently.

What the Israelis are cooking up is not yet known but Mark Levin said this afternoon there is hard evidence of Obamacare exemption fraud by Congress with Rand Paul, Boehner and McConnell implicated.

I think we are going to see some hard ball play out here. McConnell must be shown the door. He’s too goddam dangerous. He really pisses me off.

That’s where everyone’s anger should be focused, on McConnell, not Cruz. Don’t let McConnell divide the ranks of conservatives over Cruz. McConnell’s the focus here, not Cruz.

Rather than the Senate having the final say over this treaty, McConnell has made it so that Obama will have the final say and if he doesn’t like the Iran resolution passed by the Senate and sent to him, then he can VETO it.

The relevant portion of the Constitution is Art II, Sec 2, Para 2:

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.
Now, given this wording this flipping/ceding you're saying is a de facto amendment to the Constitution: nowhere does it say that a Treaty can be made [entered into] w/o the 2/3rds of Senators present concurring. — Now Obama could wait until Congress was out of session and then get one Senator to stay behind to consent and thereby fulfill the letter of the Constitution, but what you are saying is flat-out ignoring the Constitution.

Thanks for being so patient and trying to explain this. It is very confusing and convoluted. It has become very clear over the past couple of years that both the leaders of the House and Senate are not on the side of the American people but have been bought and paid for. The Congress is even more corrupt than I had thought. I did read about the Obamacare thing with Rand Paul.

May I ask though it Cruz knew this was going to pass why didn’t he vote “no”? I can understand why he would want to delay things but his no vote wouldn’t have held this up it seems.

I know what Mark Levin said today.

But you do know that the more important vote was the Cloture Vote? Do you know what that is? And Ted Cruz voted NO on the Cloture Vote which means he wants to Iran Deal.

But then Ted Cruz voted YES on the Iran Review Resolution. Do you know why?

Here’s why:

Obama cannot put his Iran deal into effect until the Senate completes its “review”. Ted Cruz by voting yes for Review is now allowed to participate in that review. And by participating he can drag the review out, he can raise procedural objections, he can procrastinate.

But Tom Cotton (bless him) cannot participate in the “Review” because he voted NO.

So there is a reason that Ted Cruz voted YES and that is to delay the Review.

Ted Cruz talks to the Israel’s Netanyahu nearly everyday. Netanyahu has been in the news everyday for the past weeks warning that this Iran deal will lead to Iran having nuclear weapons and put Israel at risk of destruction.

So Ted Cruz by voting YES is allowed to get in there and work the Review and try and delay it. We don’t know what Israel is planning but it looks like McConnell could be in trouble. McConnell is the problem here. Or rather the people that control McConnell.

Correction!

And Ted Cruz voted NO on the Cloture Vote which means he wants to NO Iran Deal.

If he had voted NO, then he would not be allowed to participate in the “Review” of Obama’s Iran Deal plan.

To work on the review, one agrees to read the plan and comment on it.

Ted Cruz can raise procedural objections, he can procrastinate, he can assert Senate privileges, he can stonewall his comments. He can delay the completion of the Review for a week or two.

It’s important to delay the completion of the Review because while Obama’s plan is under review, Obama cannot go forward with it.

Ted Cruz talks to Benjamin Netanyahu everyday or very frequently. Ted Cruz is loved in Israel; they trust him over there. Israel is scared beyond anything imagined that once the Iranians get nuclear weapons, Israel will be wiped out.

Netanyahu has been in the news everyday for the past weeks imploring anyone who would listen how bad this Iran deal is.

We can be assured Ted Cruz has heard Netanyahu’s pleas.

Ted Cruz then voted YES so that he can get into that Review and cause maximum delay.

But Ted Cruz first voted NO on Cloture which showed he is against the Iran Deal. And Cloture was the more important vote.

All of this has been the machinations of McConnell.

Now it is disclosed today there is criminal fraud in Obamacare exemptions that implicate McConnell.

I think we are going to see some real hard ball played out very soon.

Yes, you have it. They are doing whatever they want. As Mark Levin remarks, “The reality is we are living in a Post-Constitutional world”.

And McConnell is the designer of all this con game. There are people that control McConnell, I am sure of it. It would take an insider to reveal who these people are.

I hope the Mossad nails McConnell to the wall. McConnell was just implicated in the Obamacare exemption fraud that was just exposed today. It may not be a coincidence. The Israelis are scared to death; they are certain this deal results in Iran with nuclear weapons.

Here’s the Obamacare fraud link that implicates McConnell:

Amen.He skipped the Lynch vote as well. Didn’t like that either. When will we learn to stop putting our faith in men. Tom Cotton is the patriot on this one.

He didn’t need to stay for the Lynch vote. He voted NO on the Cloture vote that preceded the Lynch vote.

The Cloture vote was the more important vote. Once Cloture was passed, the deal was a done deal. No need to hang around. And Ted Cruz had important campaign meetings to attend. He was smart to do exactly what he did.
