Ted Cruz: Why I voted YES for Corker Iran bill
TheRightscoop ^ | 5/7/2015 | RightScoop

Cruz- “This bill was a missed opportunity. If Congress had acted to defend our constitutional authority – if Congress had adopted the Cruz-Toomey amendment – then we would be able to stop a bad Iran deal. Instead, the odds are now overwhelming that under these ground rules President Obama will negotiate, and Congress will acquiesce to, a terrible deal that allows Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and will endanger the lives of millions of Americans and our allies.

“I voted no on cloture because we should have insisted on amendments to put real teeth in this bill. Ultimately, I voted yes on final passage because it may delay, slightly, President Obama’s ability to lift the Iran sanctions and it ensures we will have a Congressional debate on the merits of the Iran deal. I will continue to lead the fight to prevent the Islamic Republic of Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to protect the national security of America and our allies.”

I’ll grant you it’s fun rubbing their noses in it and they deserve it a million times over. But it’s meaningless. People this removed from reality will continue their stupid, waste all out time here so we don’t use it on something more productive like helping elect conservatives, vote in more liberals, come back and do it again.

And clear skies above.

Your comment reminds me of my husband’s recounting of his experience at “Boy’s State.”

Maybe I can offend them enough to MAKE them listen.

Gollee, if only Romney had been elected then we could have seen a REAL trade deal. He would have traded whatever remains of US sovereignty for a few hundred shares of stock in Red China, Inc., made out in the name of the Romney family trust. When it comes to deal making, Obozo is an amateur.

Side question

Why is this a topic for legislation

Doesn’t the constitution already give the senate the power to advise and consent on treaties

I think Sen. Cruz is just choosing his battlefield. No bill would mean no review. Here, the Gop-e will likely vote to disapprove, and the president will veto.

Best response yet as I read through the thread from oldest to newest. I am glad someone "gets it".

You assume they’d have a problem with that. I doubt thats the case. As long as they got more abortion, more government control and Mitt’s plumbers finished flushing conservatives, I don’t think they’d mind a bit.

You can’t offend people too devoted to the will of Landru to clean up after supplications are offered.

Why is this a topic for legislation

"Going legislative" was Ø's constitutional workaround... and McConnell brought home the Halal turkey bacon for the enemies (foreign and domestic) of our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel.

Mark Levin just mentioned a huge scandal with hard evidence involving the republican leadership (McConnell, Boehner) and Obama concerning Obamacare exemption subsidies. Evidence now exists to go into court and subpoena McConnell and Boehner along with Rand Paul. to have them testify to issues involving criminal fraud.

This makes me want to cynically laugh; the amount of crap that our political elite get away with is astounding — like Ted Kennedy, they can get away with murder.

From what I know I don't like this bill at all.
Tom Cotton is emerging as the Guerrilla Fighter we need and I probably would for him for President if he was running.

Actually, on second thought, Mittens would have traded for a mess of pottage.

Cruz is balancing strategy with principles.
Some mistake it for caving on principles.
I choose to trust Cruz.

After reading that intriguing gem, all interest in Cruz's vote went out the window except to say feeling the need to explain a vote after the fact never looks good.

I am more interested in taking McConnell and Boehner down and I pray their political lives are about to get messy in a very public and humiliating way.

Yes, exactly and this bill is about empowering congress against the the dictator so Cruz is for it even though it did not contain quite what he wanted.

As supporters of Cruz, we are so used to seeing him throw the long ball and connect that it is disappointing to see him have to punt.

But punting is a fact of life in football.

Ted Cruz is throwing the ball out of bounds to stop the clock. But we are left in limbo not knowing if there is anything else that can be done.
