Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is slated to announce Tuesday that he will make a second bid for the Republican nomination.
The challenges are formidable for the man who won the 2008 Iowa caucuses. In that earlier race, Huckabee, 59, a former Baptist preacher, struggled to expand his reach beyond evangelical voters, and ran out of money in subsequent contests.
Huckabee is a gifted communicator. Polls have consistently shown that he has relatively high name recognition and popularity among Republicans. Early this year, he quit his television show on Fox News, so that he could more deeply explore the possibility of another run.
This time, his challenge will be finding a way to break through in a field that is likely to include a dozen or more credible, well-financed contenders. Among them are relatively fresh faces, such as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), who are challenging him for the financial and political support of conservative Christians.
On the stump, he has pointed to his Arkansas history as evidence that he has what it takes to run against Hillary Rodham Clinton, the expected Democratic nominee.
Indeed, Huckabee's career has been intertwined with that of the Clinton family for more than two decades.

I’m not altogether sure I understand the rationale for his campaign. He seems to have had a pretty good gig in FNC. Why give it up? While he pulled a big surprise in IA in 2008, I think the bloom is off the rose. I can only attribute this to vanity more than anything else.

Huckabee supported in-state tuition rates and scholarships for students brought to the country illegallya stance he continues to defend, even while taking a tough line against illegal immigration in general.
Huckabees major achievement was a health program known as ARKids First, which he pushed through in 1997, his first full year in office. It extended coverage to children whose parents earned too much to qualify for Medicaid, but still couldnt afford private insurance. To pay for his various initiatives, Huckabee raised taxesgas taxes, sales taxes, a tax on beds in nursing homes.... the states total tax bill increased on his watch, as did state spending and the number of state employees.
This has led to a longstanding feud with the anti-tax Club for Growth, which denigrates Huckabees record as governor. The libertarian-leaning Cato Institute has also given him poor marks, once describing him as the biggest big-government conservative.
Big taxer? Check.
Big spender? Check.
Benefits for illegal aliens? Check.
Gag me with a pitchfork
As a conservative Christian this should be welcome news here, right?
Nothing more than ‘ego.’
By claiming to be running for President he’ll get interviewed by all kinds of news sources and have lots of TV face time. Plus it feels important to say, “I’m running for President”!
Other than that - completely meaningless.
I’m thinking Arby’s.
Huckabee has been recruited by GOP establishment insiders with money and influence to lead evangelicals astray and dilute their influence. These handlers do not share your values.
What a waste it will be to throw away your vote on a beguiling mixture of Elmer Gantry and a one-liner comic when you could have voted for a brilliant, trustworthy conservative, faithful evangelical Christian, and fearless defender of our religious freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.
I hope evangelicals will pray about this and realize they are being played for suckers.
No promised land there. Cruz or lose.

Anyone can say anything .
Read about the election of 1860. That’s where we’re going.
The electoral college is going to have to sort this out, if not the House.
*crickets*
Huckabee:
Big Marxist? Check.
Yes he is a marxist:
