Two gunmen were killed and a security guard wounded in an attack outside a controversial Dallas-area event Sunday evening where organizers were holding a contest for cartoons featuring the Muslim prophet Muhammad, police said.
The shooting in Garland, a Texas suburb about 20 miles from Dallas, was preceded by messages from two social media accounts that supported extremist Islamic viewpoints.
One tweet, sent at 6:35 p.m., used the hashtag "#texasattack." The user wrote, May Allah accept us as mujahideen. Attendees inside the conference didnt get word about the shooting until 6:50 p.m.

Two social media accounts tweeted messages about the attack apparently before it happened.
A Twitter account titled Shariah is Light bearing the image of extremist Islamic propagandist Anwar al-Awlaki, who was killed in an American drone strike in Yemen in 2011 tweeted an allusion to the attack just minutes before it happened.
May Allah accept us as mujahideen [holy warriors], the account tweeted.
Before the shooting, the Shariah is Light account also tweeted a command to follow another account, titled AbuHussainAlBritani, which also tweeted before and after the Texas shooting.
The knives have been sharpened, soon we will come to your streets with death and slaughter! tweeted the AbuHussainAlBritani account before the attack. That accounts avatar is a man in a mask pointing an assault rifle at the camera.
After the attack, the AbuHussainAlBritani account began tweeting praise of the Texas shooting, and linked the attack to the militant group Islamic State.
Allahu Akbar!!!!! 2 of our brothers just opened fire at the ... art exhibition in texas!, the account tweeted. Kill Those That Insult The Prophet.
They Thought They Was Safe In Texas From The Soldiers of The Islamic State, the account tweeted.

Yes, well, I’m only just learning to shoot :) Crazy, I know.
Time to identify them and their contacts. Another chapter in the book “Joys of Multiculturalism”.
NYT Journalist Wonders: “Free Speech Aside” Why Would Anyone Hold A Contest to Draw Muhammed?

The ‘holy trinity’ of American (and more properly Texan) weapons, and the minimum anyone who can legally possess should have - a home defense/civil unrest shotgun, a multipurpose rifle and a reliable handgun. You can get a Mossberg 500 pump shotgun for about $200-250, an entry level AR-15 type costs about $600-800 and a good bet-your-life-on-it-reliable automatic pistol runs about $4-500.
Which of the local ranges have you been shooting at?
muslims...and liberals...and mass graves...oh my.
Don’t Mess with Texas!
You’d think the daughter of a former LEO and niece/cousin of LEOs would already have her shotgun and pistol. I’ve been to Shoot Smart. Handgun 101 with a .22 (would only kill a squirrel. Most recently fired a 9mm. If I knew how to post the image from flickr I would...not a bad first 11 rounds.
” Two social media accounts tweeted messages about the attack apparently before it happened.”
Any more tweets?
Fox News just said Louie Gohmert was at the event as well as author Robert Spencer.
Well done Garland Police Department for keeping the Peace!
.22LR can be lethal in the right situation and the right hands. That said, no, one shouldn’t rely on it being a stopper...
Which side of the Metroplex are you (generally) located in?
Allah my ex’s live in Texas!
CNN covered the Garland shoot out venue as a provocation, that the number of police on hand was arranged by the organizer, Pamela Geller, and demonstrated that all concerned expected trouble.
Also, it was thought a little odd there were no Muslim protestors, unusually quiet, as if to wonder if the word was put out by the Muslim community to stay away, for obvious reason of perhaps another plan in effect.
The conservative side :) Fort Worth area. Couldn’t pay me to live in Dallas which doesn’t explain my moniker in the least.
Don't need any more reason than that.
Free men and real Americans appreciate the importance of free speech.
Exactly, when do we find out about the Perps, maybe they are illegal aliens because virtually anyone can cross the border. Maybe they don’t have much of a paper trail for being in the US.
Fort Worth is where Wendy Davis was elected to the Legislature from. Don’t think you can call FtW any more conservative than Dallas after that.
I would have suggested checking out Target Master in Garland. The shop is owned by a married couple - an British ex-pat who was IIRC in their army during the Troubles in Ireland. He collects APCs and military vehicle. His wife’s name is Linda and she’s the instructor that DPD and other local departments send their “trouble children” to for additional marksmanship training. She’s *very* good; I suggest you check with her for ideas on what to pick up, and if you need tips, etc. They also do the new 5 hour CCW course there. Strongly recommended - sadly there’s not really all that much that’s good for training over on your side of the Metroplex. http://www.targetmasters.com/
If you talk to Linda, tell her the guy with the customized heavy barrel FAL sent you. (Also, if you’re not already, you should be on the FR Texas board.)
Touché on the Wendy Davis debacle. I still consider it more conservative than Dallas. At least the Ferguson and Baltimore protesters keep their stupidity on that side if town.
I will definitely check them out. Thanks for the tip
Obama incite violence “The future does not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam”
The moslem pricks would stop doing this if every event that is insulting to their desert demon god were actually a set-up to draw them into a kill zone.
