Ben Carson, retired neurosurgeon turned conservative star, has confirmed that he will seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.
Carson, who has never run for public office, is expected to be the only high-profile African-American to enter the GOPs presidential primary as he tries to parlay his success as an author and speaker into a competitive campaign against established politicians.
Im willing to be part of the equation and therefore, Im announcing my candidacy for president of the United States of America, he said in an interview aired Sunday night by Ohios WKRC television station.
He is set to make a more formal announcement during a speech from his native Detroit on Monday.

Carson has supported the idea of everyone carrying their medical records encoded in a microchip under their skin, and he wants the government to give every citizen 2000 dollars to start their health savings account.
He has stated that he doesn’t really want to run but God wants him to and he is needed. He is not George Washington, the reluctant hero.
He is a good man, but the comment that men “go into prison straight and come out gay” shows he is woefully unprepared for the spotlight.
Carson 2016-Because people in cities don’t need a Second Amendment.
Nope.
This is horrible. He is a wonderful man.
He has no place in politics.
you have jumped the shark over this
SO I say that we start election Season with everyone in the GOP automatically running and you have to actually opt out. Would result in fewer candidates.
I can’t support him. He may be a good man but he’s not a conservative.
“This is horrible. He is a wonderful man.
He has no place in politics.”
Well put. History gives us many examples of good people who are skilled in their field being unsuitable for public office.
As usual you are wrong. Carson is on record saying people in certain areas do not need guns.
Your personal jihad with me does not alter Carson’s well known and much discussed position which he had to walk back.
He may be a nice guy, and a great neurosurgeon, but he ain't a conservative.
I'll keep sending money to the Cruz campaign, since I do know what I want. A conservative that I can vote for.

Do we really need 15 candidates running?
I don’t think so.
Another guy who will never get my vote. He couldn’t lead an angry cat our of a paper sack. He also has no bedrock of principle guiding him.
Yup. Exactly.
Here lib. 2 seconds on Google.
You can admit your fail now.
RINO Rick Perry! Dude you are running out of days. Better act now or you will run out of days.
One a week, only about 20 spots left.
Now you did it. His hair club ...sorry, FAN club will have your scalp for that...
And there lies the problem with many of the GOP-E candidates.
I may be wrong, but I'll be consistently wrong, because I have a set of fixed values. Things like "Killing babies is always wrong"

While I fully respect Mr. Carson and think he is a good man with great values, I don’t feel he’s presidential material.
I’m all in for Ted Cruz, so if he picks Mr. Carson for VP...then it’s a win-win. Otherwise, Mr. Carson would best be suited as HHS (should that department be held open, which IMO shouldn’t be). Surgeon General would be a good pick for him too. IMO
Well now hold on there. I learned right here from a Free Republic holy man that abortion is a sin no worse than any other so that means it can be a lesser evil depending on circumstance!
You ain’t one of them...PURISTS are ya? ;)
