Hiya Beachie, did you know it's FRiday? Thought you might, heh, heh.
Good choice on the music, I'm a big Moody Blues fan too.
I work this afternoon/evening and then have a 3-day weekend. Nothing big happening on my end, just shopping a bit.
What's up with you and hubby this weekend?
Hope your weekend is great!

Did you hold a watch up to her ear so she could hear it tick?
Oh yes, she knew, I have an alarm clock on my night stand. She was wanting to go into the bedroom to show me the clock- her Grand mama did not realize what she wanted.

It's going OK. My pickup was a little hesitant to start this morning but it did and I went and got the groceries for next week.
Nice weather the last few days. Planning on another trip to the lake with Bo later today.

Pete Seeger is on a few of those on my list. He belonged to the Almanac Singers and the Weavers. In 1941, when Stalin and Hitler were allies, the Almanacs released an anti-war album that included tunes such as "Plow Under," on my list, and The Ballad of October 16. When Hitler invaded the Soviet Union, the Almanacs turned on a dime and started cranking out pro-war songs such as Reuben James (1942).Here's something I had previously compiled and saved...
"[Pete] Seeger was antiwar during the period of the Nazi-Soviet Pact; pro-war after the Soviet Union was the ally of the United States; and anti-war during the years of the Cold War and Vietnam. To Nichols -a rather dense left-winger -it is good form to acknowledge that perhaps 'Stalin was a bad guy,' and then simply get over it, and move on to campaign for very American socialist causes." --Ronald Radosh (former communist)

NYT Writer Corrects Record: Pete Seeger 'Only' 40 Years Late in Denouncing Stalin
By P.J. Gladnick
2007-09-02
The New York Times has now corrected [1] a "smear" about Pete Seeger being 50 years too late in denouncing Stalin. Thanks to the intrepid research of Times reporter Daniel J. Wakin, the record has now been set straight. Pete Seeger was only about 40 years too late in criticizing Stalin.

Planted wheat last fall. Prospects are good but as always need rain. Am 200 miles south in Texas going for a load of cottonseed to blend into the milk cow feed. Alfalfa south, cottonseed north. It is like laundry lol.

That should be 300 miles. It is Friday thankfully. Happy loyalty day.

Good afternoon, Brothers!
Army Bro, that was poignant indeed! I haven't heard that song for decades and the images brought back many memories. This past Tuesday was the 46th Anniversary of my arrival in-country.
The 40th Anniversary of the evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in Saigon has opened up some old wounds for me. I was 21 years old when I was in-country and almost didn't make it to 22. Much to the chagrin of responsible observers everywhere I'm still above ground in my late 60's.
My heart goes out to those of us who didn't come back and to their families, loved ones and friends. My heart goes out as well to those of us who came home with grievous wounds, both of the body and of the Soul.
I stand in awe of our serving Troops, who have acquitted themselves magnificently under draconian Rules of Engagement against an enemy who flouts every moral imperative of Western Civilization. Many years ago, you and I served willingly, professionally and honorably in a cause scorned by our contemporaries. The thousands of "Boat People" and others who voted with their feet after the Communist takeover bear witness to the righteousness of our work. Many of those refugees have become stalwart citizens of our Nation, many serving in our Armed Forces with Valor.
It matters not what people may say of us it only matters what we did. I will sleep soundly tonight, knowing that I and my Brothers discharged our duty to this, the greatest of Nations, as millions have before and after us.
"I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense." |
