We have no information or evidence at this point to indicate that there is a prior pre-existing spinal injury, said Jason Downs, an attorney representing one of Grays relatives, told the Sun. Its a rumor.
And yet that rumor might have caused real damage in a country already polarized on the subject of race and the police. The story quickly spread to several other Web sites, such as Free Republic and the Conservative Tree House, which called Grays supposedly pre-existing injury a potential game changing discovery. A site called New York City Guns ran the headline Dead Baltimore Drug Dealer Had Spinal Surgery DAYS Before He Collapsed in Police Van (Rioters Say OOPS).
Boom! Seems legit, a commenter wrote on the Conservative Tree House.

Speculation, even wild speculation, is a legitimate function on a discussion forum. And most of it turns to vapor when all the FACTS are revealed. Sometimes the speculation is borne out by the facts.
What is most interesting is the extent to which the so called MSM has delved into this particular round of speculation. And that none that I have seen have acknowledged that Free Republic (Conscience of a Conservative) researched and debunked within an hour and a half of the story being posted here
Here is email that I sent to the BS (Baltimore Sun) reporters:
The fact of the matter is that Free Republic is not the source for this rumor disguised as a new story. It was posted on the FR forum from a blog fourthestate.co. There then ensued a discussion that now has over 200 comments. Within an hour and a half, one of the posters, Conscience of a Conservative, had found out the facts of the matter; and he did not even have to visit the Court House.

Perhaps you would wish to enlarge and extend your story to give full and proper coverage of Free Republics real investigative reporting?
The WaPo at least gets it right that we did not originate; but it fails to acknowledge that we debunked it quickly.
The devil doesn’t care about the lies he tells as much as if he can get you lying too.
Well Michael E. Miller, looking at your history as a reporter this topic is a little out of your league.

Did you get a tip over at Democrat Underground or something?
But in order to do that, the Compost would have do admit that it is actually conservatives who care about the truth.
Seriousity? LOL - you've been watching too many live interviews with rioters...
There is a 4 year gap in his arrest record. Was he just lucky during that time? Or was he turning his life around?
.....................
I thought he might have been in jail during that period.
Is that a word?! ... LOL ...
Oh duh.
Odd how that didn’t make the Washington Post story...
Then again - as long as they spell our name right...
Or was he incarcerated?
It'll be a very difficult world to live in if those running away from law authority can't be chased and caught by the police.
How many of these cases have been initiated when someone didn't stop when police tried to approach them?
You are correct ...lawyer speak. I don’t know if there was a ores using injury or not. But the family does. The correct response maybe should have been. Mr grey did not have any prior injuries or surgeries prior to his arrest. Period end of statement. But such statements do not allow for waffling later on
A concept that the cop suckers are trying to blow smoke to avoid. I'm looking into my crystal ball and I see no personal culpability being found for the six jackboots who mysteriously transformed him from a person to a corpse, BUT the department WILL review it's procedures.
And you can expect them to renege on their promise to get them out faster.
Story from the Washington comPost. Nuff said.
For the record...
