George Stephanopoulos got aggressive yesterday in challenging author Peter Schweizer on his book Clinton Cash. But in relying on the principal talking point proffered by the Clinton campaign, he indicted himself on charges of bias. Ramesh Ponnuru and Scott Johnson both picked up on the irony. From the ABC News transcript:
STEPHANOPOULOS: As you know, the Democrats have said this is -- this is an indication of your partisan interest. They say...
SCHWEIZER: Well...
STEPHANOPOULOS: -- you used to work for President -- President Bush as a speechwriter. You're funded by the Koch brothers.
How do you respond to that?
SCHWEIZER: Well, George, what did I do when this book was completed?
I went to the investigative unit at "The New York Times," the investigative unit here at ABC. I went to the investigative unit at "The Washington Post." And I shared with them my findings, OK. These are not cupcakes. These are serious researchers and investigators.
And they are confirming what I've reported. So people can look at the facts and...
STEPHANOPOULOS: They haven't come -- they haven't confirmed any evidence of any crime.
SCHWEIZER: Well, but -- but it's not up to an author to prove crime. I mean do you think that when people first started looking at Governor McConnell or they started looking at Menendez, that they immediately had evidence?
You need subpoena power. You need access to records and information. You need access to e-mails.
There's all sorts of things that you can do. You can't leave it up to an author to say that an author has to prove a criminal case.

He was far, far more involved in the Bill Clinton presidential campaigns and presidency than Schweizer was with Bush. And he failed to mention his own involvement with the Clintons when critiquing Schweizer.
Why does anyone even listen to what the juvenile delinquent says?
I am pretty sure George disqualified from professional ‘journalism’ a long time ago!
RE: Why does anyone even listen to what the juvenile delinquent says?
Well, why is ABC paying him $8 million a year?
i saw this interview. georigie-girl couldn’t have been more partisan if he wore a hillary button. shameful.
then he tried to get advance dirt on jeb bush, with a far different standard of credibility than he was using for hillary - his old employer
Little Georgie is nothing more than a sniveling little shit Clinton Buttboy. For him to be held up as a serious journalist is absurd.
All he did during that interview was to say “Where is the evidence? I don’t think you can prove that...and so on.”
If you will remember, “I don’t think you’ll be able to prove that” is one of Hillary’s most used lines when confronted with things like FBI files, Rose Law Firm billing records, her investments that netted her a 100X return (at the expense of that other investment firm’s best customer - Tyson Foods I might add).
Someone once said, “...first, kill all the lawyers” (yes I know in a different context). I submit (in MY context) “first, kill all the journalists.”
Just effing disgusting how these weasels betray us.
Exactly
Irony ain't just a way to make your shirts flat!
My impression was that Schwiezer was ready for the questions (actually pit-bull style attack) and being firmly rebuked caught Stephanopoulos off balance.
The smurf just can’t help channeling Lanny “Fagan” Davis....
Interesting.
So Stephie thinks that prior work for a President disqualifies you from investigating politicians.
Schweizer: "Didn't you used to work for President Clinton? (should have happened this way)
I believe that quote was by H. L. Menchen
The truth is that anyone going up against the Liberal press onnthe Liberal presses’ own turf needs to spend a lot of time being prepped murder-board style before doing so.
Compare/contrast Schweizer’s performance to Gov Pence getting his a** handed to him on the Indiana religious freedom law a few weeks ago.
It was an interesting exchange. Nothing about what the Clintons have or are doing, just attempting to kill the messenger...........as any obedient lapdog would be expected to do.
...when told by multiple guest just how serious this all is.
After his typical weak Democrat line, "No evidence of a crime" deflection.
Yep....however, in the context of his famous quote, I think he was actually talking about how one would go about overthrowing a country and that “killing all the lawyers” would be the first step to prevent the lawyers from stopping an overthrow. IOW, they were viewed as a valued stalwart rather than the real problem they are today.
George Stephanopoulos has no business working for ABC.
I think someone that lied for a living, for a person that never told the truth is a perfect fit for ABC.
