Time ^ | April 16, 2015 | Antonin Scalia

Posted on 04/19/2015 2:29:20 PM PDT by EveningStar

... Having had the good fortune to serve beside [Ruth Bader Ginsburg] on [the U.S. Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court], I can attest that her opinions are always thoroughly considered, always carefully crafted and almost always correct (which is to say we sometimes disagree). That much is apparent for all to see ...

Any Justice who suggests to another nation that our constitution is inferior to that of South Africa or any other nation, and who feels American courts should consider the laws of other nations in rendering judicial decisions is manifestly unfit to sit on the Supreme Court or any other court in America.

I doubt if that wretched creature Ginsburg would express similar positive opinions about Scalia or any other conservative.

Why must conservatives like Scalia continue to treat mean spirited destructive ideologues of the left like Ginsburg with any degree of respect? It’s not being classy, it just being stupid.

Doing his part to keep her on the bench for another 20 months.

I hope he's successful.

Yes, agree. . .much better than having communist-in-chief appoint a younger more radical justice to the Court.

Wait until a repub in in the WH and then maybe she can quietly leave the Court. . . .and with Repubs in control of the House and Senate, well, a Bork might be nominated and approved (I can dream, can't I?)

The woman is a glittering jewel of collosal ignorance.

But then again, so are the TIME writers.

Such is the fate of buffoons.

Well there’s no reason to click through to that article. The first sentence confirms it, the author is a sycophantic fool.

She was one of the unanimous 9 votes declaring Obama:s recess appointments to be unconstitutional.

When you stray away from the cocoon of political message boards and into the real world, you find that classiness really does exist.

Ginsberg, Kagan, Sotomeyor, Breyer shouldn’t be anywhere near the Supreme Court. Kagan and Sotomeyor shouldn’t even be judges.

”I am convinced she is only staying until she can participate (and possibly write the majority opinion) making same sex marriage a constitutional right."

Although activist justices took advantage of widespread ignorance of the Constitution and got away with establishing the PC “right” to have an abortion for example, it remains that the Supreme Court has no constitutional authority to establish constitutional rights.

As required by the Constitution’s Article V, either Congress or the states must propose an amendment to the Constitution to the states which would expressly establish so-called “rights” like gay marriage and abortion. And then it is entirely up to the states to either ratify or ignore the proposed amendment.

Also, as previously mentioned, note that if the 17th Amendment hadn’t been ratified there would probably be all different faces on the Supreme Court at this time and we wouldn’t be concerned about activist justices trying to establish gay rights and abortion rights outside the framework of the Constitution.

The 17th Amendment needs to disappear.

Scalia and Bader-Ginsberg are close personal friends. They sometimes have lunch together when the Court is in session and they share a love of opera and have been known to attend the Washington National Opera together.

Unforced error by The Scalia. If you put together everything he has said over time, you’d conclude he likes Ginsburg, thinks she’s smart and she’s nice, and thinks her written opinions are way, way off the mark. Given all that, why did he have to write that glowing endorsement, which will be misinterpreted by so many? He doesn’t need to trash her; keeping silent and just saying “we’re friends” are also very good options!
