Washington (AFP) - Secretary of State John Kerry will visit the Arctic Circle next week for key ministerial talks on climate change amid global concerns about rising seas and accelerating ice melt.
Global warming is happening twice as fast in the Arctic than elsewhere on the planet and many fear not only devastating impacts of warming but also from an influx of people and industry on the pristine environment, wildlife and Inuit culture.
Kerry will attend a meeting of the Arctic Council in the northwestern Canadian town of Iqaluit, on Baffin Island.
The United States on April 24 formally takes over the two-year rotating membership of the intergovernmental forum -- comprising countries with territory within the Arctic -- Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States.
The body aims to promote cooperation on environmental protection, as well as to help govern oil and mineral exploitation, shipping, tourism and fishing.

In college I talked to someone over the phone numerous times for reasons unimportant. The girl had the sexiest voice and I was convinced I wanted to see her, take her out and marry her. I finally got to see her. The voice was beautiful, but she was a heifer, weighing over 250 pounds and looked like, well, to put it bluntly, someone you don't want your mother to see. Just a small point, no need to reply and glad you are here FRiend.
Polar bears are asking if John Kerry tastes like chivken
Next weeks headline:
KERRY TO VISIT EDGE OF THE EARTH
Concerns grow over aging unsafe railings
Well, things happened, we shared email addresses, and learned each others real names. There are about four people I still correspond with six years since I left that other site.
As far as FR goes the folks on this site have been closer to me than my own family, especially when my husband died four years ago.
So...yeah, I consider them “friends” as well as “FRiends”!
He may catch onto it some day by I highly doubt it.
I’m sure he’ll bring clarity to the subject with his peanut brain.
I’ve mentioned this before. Having lived where we live for the past almost thirty years we’ve become aware of certain patterns. We are near, and in the flight path of a major military air base.
Whenever the Republicans are in the majority we see less of Washington based government aircraft visiting the area, but when the Democrats are in power there’s government aircraft taking off multiple times a week from that airbase. When I say Government I mean not military designated aircraft, but the white aircraft with the flag insignia on the tail.
My observation: The Democrats wantonly throw their weight around with little to no regard for the confiscated taxpayer treasure. Republicans are more concerned about the costs to their taxpaying constituents. The Republicans will telecommunicate with less emphasis on costly physical travel.
Democrats are blowhards.
What's wrong with these people?/*rhetorical
Hope he gets eaten by a polar bear.
The econuts are worried about an “influx of people and industry” in the Artic. Seriously?
WTF would they do there? Plant pineapple farms and set up resort hotels to watch Polar bears in their natural habitat?
Can anyone point to one instance of a “ rising sea”?
Maybe the SoS needs to fly up there and see how much man-made climate disruption that Rover has been causing.
Kerry is the clown in Obama’s muslime circus
I bet it would be easy to get him to lick the flagpole.
LOL!
Or get him to eat the yellow snow.
Oh man, I wouldn’t wish that on any polar bear.
Probably more like Chumpkin...
So let’s say there is an ice melt, just what is JFK going to do about it? Botox?
Only John Fraud can find ice melting in spring.
