WIBC-FM 93.1 is pulling the plug on "The Rush Limbaugh Show," a vastly popular program with conservative talk-radio fans and one of the most listened to in this market since it began airing on the station 22 years ago.
The show's last airing on WIBC is set for July 3.
Officials for WIBC parent Emmis Communications this month notified Los Angeles-based syndicator Premiere Networks that it would not extend its deal to air Limbaughs show.

They say it "isn't a business decision", but then the money quote comes at the bottom:
"While Morgan expects some WIBC listeners to be hugely disappointed by the change, he said losing Limbaugh could open up the station to more advertising opportunities.
There are someprimarily nationaladvertisers that refuse to air commercials during Limbaughs show, Morgan explained. Emmis officials began notifying its advertisers of the change Monday.
We believe this could open us up to a new group of advertisers, he said."
It's pretty obvious that they think by dumping Limbaugh, they can pick up a lot more advertising that:
1) They get to keep most of the money from. 2) From lib orgs/companies (like Hillary 2016, for instance?) that won't spend money anywhere that airs Limbaugh.
By July 3rd Rush will have already found a replacement local station who wants to increase their market share.
And they are doing this just 1 - 1/2 years before a huge presidential election?? Talk about being real short sighted! The ratings should be very good through November of 16 if they keep Rush.
Emmis/WIBC are run by liberals. Expect their ratings to be much much lower compared to if they kept Rush. But I don’t think that really matters to them.
I predict that Garrison will be shown the door soon.
Wonder what sort of audience they expect to have when competing against Rush during those three mid-day hours?
I guess I’ll have to find Rush’s new station for when I drive through Indy.
“I predict that Garrison will be shown the door soon.”
Smulyan is 67 now.
This is the start of Clinton looking to shut down opposing views around the country.
Rush will do what he always does, move to a different station and take all the listeners with him.
Emmis is stupid, real stupid. Just ask Air America.
As the 8th largest media conglomerate in the country, getting a piece of Hillary’s estimated $1.4 BILLION dollar ad spend is a HUGE chunk of money.
Having Limbaugh on risks their chance to get some of that huge payoff.
I say payoff, because that is EXACTLY what it will be.

Indeed. Expect to see this happen in more swing states too.
So they expect to earn more money from advertisers with a much smaller audience? Hmmmmmmm.
I don't think it will take Rush until July 3 to line up another station. Maybe until next Tuesday.
Snapple logic fail.
Even if their rationale made sense, that Rush limits local ad revenue and some national spots:
1. Rush isn’t losing them money. Even if more could be made,
2. Rush serves as a loss leader. Both the exposure given by Rush and denied its competitors makes all those other program hours in the day beneficial for what the network claims they are going to be doing from 12-3.
They be seriously regretting that decision in 6 months, to no avail. This is a case of ‘affair down’: the mistress they’re courting won’t compare to what they already had.
Rush makes or breaks a talk radio station. I suggest the owners take a hard look at what happened to KTSA San Antonio when WOAI pulled Rush out from underneath them...
WIBC will find out that they made s bad business decision, when their rating drops the week after Rush Limbaugh leaves.
I have seen those notices from national advertisers, in addition to not airing their commercials during Rush's show they also forbid a radio station from running their commercials in any show "adjacent" to Rush's show (i.e., before and after).
I called and e-mailed. Gave them the boot. I ain’t waiting to boot them until July 3rd.
I boot them as of today!
Why wait until July 3rd?. Get rid of WIBC tomorrow morning.
