Punishing 'climate change deniers'
American Thinker ^ | 4/13/15 | Thomas Lifson

Posted on 04/13/2015 3:17:42 AM PDT by markomalley

Failing to convince the public that global warming, is and urgent cause for concern, hysterical fear-mongers are turning to the armory of tyrants, and demanding punishment for those they call “deniers,” consciously inking Holocaust denial. The recent rebranding of their cause as “climate change creates a certain awkwardness, as nobody denies that climate has and always will change. Glaciers, after all, covered a good part of the northern tier of the United States, carving out the Great Lakes, for example.

Nonetheless, the hysterics demand that “climate change deniers” be punished, even killed, and the call extends to from the spittle-slecked fanatics to the usually sober New York Times (see below). Christopher Monckton, The Viscount Monckton of Brenchley, has compiled a valuable list of those calling for the abrogation of free speech and punishment of dissidents, he writes:

It is not yet clear to me that the totalitarian persecution of climate skeptics is any more beneficial than the persecution of those who opposed eugenics in Fascist Germany or Lysenko's nonsense in Soviet Russia.

For we are far too timid in fighting back against extremist language of the sort that is well evidenced in the attached list. I managed to silence the dreadful Parncutt because he was based in Austria, where his demand that climate skeptics be executed is a hate crime - a serious, imprisonable offense. Similarly, I have more or less entirely shut down such rhetoric in Scotland, which also has laws against hate speech.

Anybody think that there’s a ‘democratic’ solution ??

Me neither.

That first sentence is a travesty to the English language! Is that what Lifson wrote and his editor allowed to appear in AT?

I’m hoping that it is the result of cut&paste errors...

Then how these factors interact and their feedback loops are to a great degree estimated.

Just read a paper this morning about that: "Understanding the variability of clear-sky outgoing long-wave radiation based on ship-based temperature and water vapour measurements" Their conclusion was that even with the simplest, most agreed-upon radiative transer models, the uncertainty in outgoing radiation due to small scale weather which cannot be measured and is certainly not modeled in the worldwide climate models, is far in excess of any potential heat trapping from increased CO2 now and well into the future.

I used to wonder what that stupid equal sign meant, I though perhaps it was captain’s bars for years. Less than sign, hadn’t heard of that one, lol.

For these climate nazis let’s make this a 2 way street: If global warming does not occur, if instead the world gets colder, then these climate liars should be put to death for their crimes against humanity - fraud & extortion.

Would they bet their life on AGW as they have bet the lives & prosperity of billions of people with this scam? I doubt it.

Sorry, but that is just not a good argument. Very often subtle changes can have huge impacts. A teeny tiny amount of botulin toxin will kill you dead right there. Size doesn’t always matter.

Occam's razor here. A man is found with a smoking gun in his hand and a wound to his head. The police say "death by gunshot wound." Is this logical proof that he died this way? No. It is possible that a forensically untraceable gamma ray burst hit him at the same time that the gun fired and actually caused death. Sure. It's possible. Logically, it is very difficult to prove anything in the real world, especially a negative proposition ("Can you prove that he wasn't killed by the gamma rays"). But, in this case, as in most, we make use of our common scientific sense to consider first the overwhelmingly preponderant common causes and not the .000001% possibilities.

abclilly's post is a good argument. It is probably true. But, granted, it is not a logically complete argument. It is not a mathematical proof. In the real world, we rarely get such.

I don’t deny climate change.
It has happened thousands of times long before the industrial revolution... long before humans ever walked the earth.

Its just the liberal way... “think like me or be punished”

But does my argument reflect the transitive property from the big hot sun down to the less-than-specks?

I saw on some Nat Geo special that the earth will finally lose its C02 and will lose all of its atmosphere. It is up to us to pump more C02 into the atmosphere to preserve life as long as possible. So get out your GTO’s, corvettes, camaros, mustangs and get to work!

Hmmmmm....

An idea. Thanks to this post and, believe it or not, Rand Paul, we should construct a list of “gotcha” questions for LIBERALS:

Like Rand Paul:

Do DEMOCRATS(You) believe it is okay for a 7lb, 8 1/2 month old baby to be aborted?

Do you agree with the call for the extreme punishment, including imprisonment and death, of folks who do not buy in to all the climate change claims?

Do you believe working class Americans should be taxed at higher and higher rates to support giving “free” food, housing, education, and healthcare to the folks who do not work and have given up on finding jobs?

Is it okay for Islamic extremists to kill Christians as long as it isn’t in the US? Do Christian lives matter?

Do you agree with Progressive Democrats that teaching the history of the U.S. should emphasize everything we as a nation have done wrong?

Sexual practices long defined as deviant are now widely promoted and accepted? What is your hope of seeing pedophilia finally legalized and accepted?

This is the asymmetric approach needed.

“Guerilla” reporters, Project Veritas types, need to find settings on the campaign to shout and ask these questions within earshot of the Marxstream media.

Right. CO2 is a trailing indicator, (likely from warming oceans which CO2 is less soluable in). We are being told it is the component of all this which is causing warming, instead.

Because process A has happened in the past without human intervention, it doesn’t mean that humans aren’t having an effect on it now.

Because process A has happened in the past without human intervention, repeatedly, there is no reason to believe the process will not continue to happen without human intervention.

The question which arises is one of IF humans are capable of taking any action which will interrupt or accelerate the overall process, even if their efforts should be concentrated to that effect.

While I believe humans can affect localized areas (i.e. heat island effects), I do not believe that humans could take sufficient action to stop the megatrends of planetary heating and cooling, any more than we can stop continental drift.

IF humans should manage to keep the interglacial going a little longer, who is to say that will not benefit our species more than harm it?

Flora and Fauna will do what they have always done: adapt, move, or die. Humans will do the same.

As far as measurements go, the fundamental surface temperature measurements are generally taken from locations which are influenced by human actions directly (pavement, HVAC exhausts, buildings proximal to the location), so that limited information is flawed as well, not just estimates to fill in 'gaps' in reporting/recording of data.

Basing policy which may negatively impact the ability of the species to survive on such measurements is scientifically irresponsible at best.

I am aware of all the problems with AGW you mention, and they are pretty big ones.

Perhaps the oddest thing is that every intelligent person agrees we’re in an interglacial period, and well past the average time of their ending. But almost nobody ever talks about the distinct possibility of this one ending soon. Not a Little Ice Age, a big one.

Everybody forget the differing details of your arguments and theories back and forth about global warming, climate change or whatever the latest incantation of the liberal left is. Believers can argue their "facts" against the "facts" of the deniers until they are all blue in the face and it won't matter. Because the argument is not about climate change.

David Horowitz had it right when he said, "The issue [climate change] is never the issue. The issue is always the [socialist] revolution." Climate change is just a ruse to accomplish that end.
