WHEN my brother Michael was a Senate page, he delivered mail to John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, who had offices across the hall from each other.
He recalled that Kennedy never looked up or acknowledged his presence, but Nixon would greet him with a huge smile. Hi, Mike, hed say. How are you doing? Hows the family?
It seemed a bit counterintuitive, especially since my dad, a D.C. police inspector in charge of Senate security, was a huge Kennedy booster. (The two prominent pictures in our house were of the Mona Lisa and J.F.K.) But after puzzling over it, I finally decided that J.F.K. had the sort of magnetism that could ensorcell big crowds, so he did not need to squander it on mail boys. Nixon, on the other hand, lacked large-scale magnetism, so he needed to work hard to charm people one by one, even mail boys. Hillary Clinton has always tried to be more like the Democratic president she lived with in the White House, to figure out how he spins the magic. I never realized how good Bill was at this until I tried to do it, she once told her adviser, Harold Ickes. But she ends up being compared with the Republican president she investigated as a young lawyer for the House Judiciarys Watergate investigation.
Her paranoia, secrecy, scandals and disappearing act with emails from her time as secretary of state have inspired a cascade of comparisons with Nixon.
Pat Buchanan, a former Nixon adviser, bluntly told Jason Zengerle recently in New York magazine: She reminds me of Nixon, another pol whos more comfortable behind the scenes than grinding it out in the arena.
As Hillary (snip)

Good gosh, Mo must be old.

Or it could be that JFK was a phony and Nixon was a much nicer person.
Nixon was not “convicted” by the 18-minute gap.
Hillary will ride the Clinton name for all it’s worth - just like Chelsea did...
AND she’ll be just as good a President as Chelsea was a ‘journalist’...
Watch the press switch to calling her ‘Clinton’..
I was thinking of that when I watching Mommie Dearest on Demand she is Joan Crawford of Demo party LOL!
You didn’t know Mo so old she knew Moses LOL!
She still tick off that Moses didn’t take her bar mitazh LOL!
-— What is she? Really?
A bad tempered barely juris doctorate who hates jews, chatty women, chatty men, lamps, ash trays, spouse, congressional oversight, undercapitalized businesses, and anyone who asks a question? -—
THAT is damn funny.
The Kennedy’s as privileged, crooked snobs? What’s to counter-intuit?
I ran that through Google translate and came up empty. And a six letter b-word? Help.
“”I had to look it up ;)””
Same here - I’d never heard it before..
A couple of years ago I went out to California and visited the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda. They have tours of the library and the house where Nixon grew up. The house is so small that only ten people, at most, can be inside at one time. Granted, they refurbished it for the tourists, but you get an idea how cramped and small it is. For Nixon to emerge from those humble beginnings to the presidency is a credit to him. The left demonizes him of course, but then that was because he showed the country what a bunch of rats and traitors they were. It always amazes me how even today lefties can still praise a piece of scum traitor like Alger Hiss. No, Nixon was far from perfect. We know today he would be considered a big time RINO, but he doesn’t deserve the scorn and hatred he gets from the media and the left.
People forget that Nixon was also a Lt. Commander in WWII, and was only 4 years older than the eternally “youthful”/”youngest”/etc JFK.
I’ll agree with that. Lowering the voting age to 18 and enabling an EPA with NO congressional oversight should be #1 on the lefts side. (BTW the legal age for alcohol was 18)
Nixon was a smart man but his policies are not well thought-out.
Who uses words like “ensorcell?”
Sounds like either a new long-lasting Energizer battery, or a stool softener.
Don't ensorcell me, bro!
Talk about seeing things through a filter, she even manages to twist JFK being a rude person to working people, and Nixon being friendly to them and noticing them, into something anti-Nixon.
This idea that Nixon has to live in JFK's shadow forever is bizarre anyway, Nixon was a two term vice president under Eisenhower, and a two time elected president, and is a much more substantial and enduring figure than the incompetent and short lived boy wonder created by the left.
Maureen Dowd represents the demographic that Hillary MUST WIN if she expects to make it even beyond the Iowa Caucuses — a liberal feminist who would like nothing better than to see a Democratic woman president in her lifetime.
Yet even on the eve of Hillary’s announcement, Maureen can’t find a way to say anything positive about the only Democratic woman currently running for the White House.
For Hillary, Maureen Dowd is the canary in the mineshaft who must remain healthy and happily chirping Hillary’s praises or her candidacy can’t survive. Yet, judging by Maureen Dowd’s latest column, the canary has already died.
Be nice. SevenofNine has been here a long time. I always enjoy reading her posts. What she is saying is, did you ever watch the documentary where her boss tells what a b***h Hillary was? See, no need for Google Translate.
Thanks, WH, I too enjoy 7of9’s posts. Thought she needed some ribbing.
