WHEN my brother Michael was a Senate page, he delivered mail to John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, who had offices across the hall from each other.
He recalled that Kennedy never looked up or acknowledged his presence, but Nixon would greet him with a huge smile. Hi, Mike, hed say. How are you doing? Hows the family?
It seemed a bit counterintuitive, especially since my dad, a D.C. police inspector in charge of Senate security, was a huge Kennedy booster. (The two prominent pictures in our house were of the Mona Lisa and J.F.K.) But after puzzling over it, I finally decided that J.F.K. had the sort of magnetism that could ensorcell big crowds, so he did not need to squander it on mail boys. Nixon, on the other hand, lacked large-scale magnetism, so he needed to work hard to charm people one by one, even mail boys. Hillary Clinton has always tried to be more like the Democratic president she lived with in the White House, to figure out how he spins the magic. I never realized how good Bill was at this until I tried to do it, she once told her adviser, Harold Ickes. But she ends up being compared with the Republican president she investigated as a young lawyer for the House Judiciarys Watergate investigation.
Her paranoia, secrecy, scandals and disappearing act with emails from her time as secretary of state have inspired a cascade of comparisons with Nixon.
Pat Buchanan, a former Nixon adviser, bluntly told Jason Zengerle recently in New York magazine: She reminds me of Nixon, another pol whos more comfortable behind the scenes than grinding it out in the arena.

It’s possible that Kennedy was just a horse’s ass at the personal level, and Nixon wasn’t. I don’t think she considered that.
Dowd absolutely loathes the Clintons. If she hated them any more I think she would start posting on FR.
Who uses words like "ensorcell?"
Nah - it couldn’t be that?!! (could it?)
From the article:
“But if Hillary really wants to help those children, maybe she should give them some of the ostensible and obscene $2.5 billion that she is planning to spend to persuade us to make her grandmother of our country.”
I had to look it up ;’)
Oh my God, I’m now agreeing with the Dowdies!
But, someday soon Hillary will go off script and waste it all.
We can count on her to be a disconnected, do-gooder commie bitch. Bet on it.

Someone working hard to charm editors
Nixon grew up dirt poor whereas Kennedy was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Nixon could relate better with the working man and woman of America because he was one of them. Kennedy’s relationship to working people extended to the people who cooked his meals, washed his clothes, and cleaned his homes in Hyannisport and Palm Beach.

I think she posts on some conservative sites but can’t remember which ones.
Hillary Clinton is a political insider extraordinaire. She exercised is much power as she could under her husband. She walked into a sinecure in the leftist state of NY after Patrick Moynihan retired. She was given the consolation prize of Sec. of State when Obama trounced her - and in that job, she gave us the ridiculous Russian “reset” button. She turned Libya into a failed terrorist state. She nearly put Egypt into a Civil War.
Hillary is the definition of political hack
A bad tempered barely juris doctorate who hates jews, chatty women, chatty men, lamps, ash trays, spouse, congressional oversight, undercapitalized businesses, and anyone who asks a question?
Hillary's perfect world would offer up young female staffers and metrosexual male staffers wearing shock collars connected to vocal cords. Their work time clock would be in Ft Marcy Park so they could know how lucky they were to be alive each day. They would all wear Mao pants suits and keep her scotch glass full.
LOL! Just what I was thinking. This is a prime example of how liberals excuse Democrats not to mention how incredibly arrogant they think “Didn’t need to squander it on mail boys”..You can just picture Dowd flicking her hand while saying that “Didn’t need to squaaaaander it on mere MAIL boys! tsk tsk!” Dowd is the same arrogant bitch who wrote a column right after 911 saying “The firemen we women wouldn’t give a second glance towards now caught our eye”.. Oh so in other words, because 343 of them died as the towers collapsed, NOW they are worthy of Maureen Dowd! Unreal. She is the absolute epitome of the arrogant liberal, every time I read her column it’s more of the same. Just utter arrogant gutter trash.
Perhaps Kennedy was an arrogant elitist with no interest in the hoi poi, while Nixon was a genuine human being.
Maureen, like a lot of liberals, just doesn’t see the need
to treat the people who you come in contact with as
equals. Hence, Kennedy not deigning to notice the mail
boy. Then she has to lower the humanity of Nixon by
claiming he was only “charming” the mail delivery.
A pox on all of them.
Yeah, that perfectly displays the complicated mythologies liberals have to invent to avoid confronting simple human truths.
