Normally, I would not even think about the concept of digging into my past studies in sociology when writing anything for the political arena, but when it comes to social issues, focusing purely on politics can definitely do everyone a disservice. When it comes to the latest round of gay rights activists trying to push their agenda on the masses, I decided it was time to drag out the sociology at least a little. Erick Erickson observations here on the gay rights movement pushing their agenda too hard when it comes to religion were spot on. However, examining just the legal and religious principles in play isn't quite enough.
Beyond the gay rights movement going too far by suggesting that it is time to start dictating religious doctrine, there is another issue that they have inadvertently put precariously close to the table in this debate. The primary reason why the gay rights movement has enjoyed the success that it has up until now is that it has been very careful to place the private side of the issue behind a wall. Messaging has been almost exclusively about treating all people equally, and the activists have generally been very careful to keep the sex lives of gays and bisexuals out of the dialogue. It was a brilliant choice, because it's fair to assume that many Americans would have negative visceral responses to seeing and hearing about those activities on a regular basis.
It has been a bizarre balancing act that involves a group of people defining themselves by their sexual proclivities, while simultaneously keeping the actual sex acts out of view. Now that the movement is trying to force changes in religious doctrine to find their lifestyle acceptable, that balancing act is going to be more difficult to maintain. The bottom line is that religions consider gay sex sodomy, if you prefer a sin. The wall that the gay rights movement built to hide what they do in bed from the public view will need to come down at least a little to win this battle.
From a sociological standpoint, that will be opening another can of worms for gay activists. We can easily see why just by looking at popular culture. While there are many gay characters in television and film now, the depiction of gay sex outside of the adult film industry remains a rarity, and for good reason. Even people that are supportive of gay rights would not necessarily want to see what the people they support do in bed. Call it the ick factor if you like, but it is a simple fact of life that gay activists have avoided facing so far. We simply haven't reached a point in our culture where homosexual behavior can be completely normalized, and it's not just religious doctrine standing in the way.
The entertainment industry just recently showed us this, in the form of the HBO series Looking, which followed the social lives of a group of gay men in San Francisco. Due to falling ratings, HBO canceled it. While critics may have battled back and forth about the quality of the show in general, the most likely reason why the show did not take off had nothing to do with production values. The general public simply wasn't interested in delving into the personal lives of gay men. The irony is that the gay rights movement itself might have had a hand in that, because it has been so careful to keep the nuts and bolts of the gay lifestyle out of the spotlight.
Now, it will probably get sunlight that they do not want, because instead of just having to battle the evil Christian bigots, they may also see losses in support elsewhere. It was fine and even fashionable to support gay rights when one didn't have to think about anyone actually engaging in gay sex. No one should be surprised if we end up seeing some people admit to at least a little revulsion toward gays, assuming that the dialogue truly does turn to the actual sins involved. Arguably, the ball is in the court of religious leaders now. The question is, are they willing to speak explicitly about sin for the sake of protecting religious liberty?
I look at this like I view Partial Birth Abortion.
If I were a Senator pushing to Ban PBA, the first thing I would do is roll out a 70” HD TV onto the Senate Floor and show a Video of the horrific Procedure.
Then I would sit back and watch the DemoncRats defend their position on opposing the Bill.
People ignore what they are uncomfortable with.
Well, you force them to defend it, not ignore it.
Nature, Tab A into Slot B.
If you have two Tab A’s and no Slot B’s, you have a problem.
Adding a Slot C solution to the problem is icky.
But sexual slavery, the imposition of power by adults over child victims and even "temple prostitution" were pillars of the pagan world. So because these things existed in the pre-JudeoChristian era does not mean they were desired behaviors by the recipients of such abuse. And there is no way of knowing if adults who practiced it willingly were the same persons who had been "used" in childhood, as is the case today in a large percentage of adult homosexuals.
If gay sex were natural, we would see a lot more of it in wild mammal populations, but we don't.
My general understanding is that such relationships were dominance in nature, not unlike those in modern prisons... penetrator and penetrated.
Just call him Mr. Ick
It sounds like almost everybody who watched the show regularly was a gay man and there weren't enough of them to give the show decent ratings. Apparently, there was nothing else on the show to interest the rest of the country. More "ho-hum" than "ick", maybe.
You may be trying not to, but you are making my point. Because pagan omnisexual behavior existed does not mean it was desired by the “penetrated”, nor is it natural in the sense that a victimized underclass cannot consent. Therefore the fact that it existed has no bearing on whether it should be normalized in advanced Western societies.
I never said anything approving of it being normalized. My point was just that to say it isn't part of the normal human condition is to ignore history and the nature of paganism. Similarly misogyny, mistreatment of the weak and general brutishness is also the norm in paganism.
Well, the outfit he was wearing didn’t have any pockets...
All along it has been obvious that homosexuals have portrayed themselves as a ‘race” rather than a group of people who define themselves by their common sexual appetites and behaviors - which are beyond gross when it is fully exposed. Worse, is the diseases they suffer due to their behaviors.
Christians don’t like talking dirty and so we avoid the truth and that has permitted gays to run a big lie. I don’t know the solution. As I researched male homo pedophilia the behaviors unfolded, but it is too gross to share publicly. I certainly would not go into a church and talk about it. But that is our weakness. Maybe we can talk about the homo diseases in churches and let the behaviors just become obvious to those with a brain.
I did talk to my sons about it one time. I told them about homo diseases and the behaviors that led to the diseases. They were so grossed out...but they are not stupid now. They know it’s not a “race” rather people with sick and diseased sexual behaviors. Neither of them have been converted by the gay choir. But it is a major joke in the family - mom’s “unique” sex talk with them compared to dad’s “normal” discussion with them. They can laugh. It served my purpose.
SaraJohnson you are very brave but by this talk you forced yourself to have with your sons shows just how much you love them. We have to push back against this ABOMINATION in this way now I’m afraid. There is really nothing left in our arsenal. Or we will lose our precious children to this mindset.
They in turn will lose their eternal salvation. No two ways about it. Either we lay down and give up or we fight back.
I think a non graphic if way of starting the “real” conversation is to say that homosexual sex is not now, never has been and never can be a holy thing.
Gay sex is not holy.
Really?
Genesis 18:20-21
20. Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous
21. that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."
Genesis 19:4-7
4. Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.
5. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."
6. Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him
7. and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.
Isaiah 3:9 The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.
2 Peter 2:13b Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.
Ezekiel 16:49-50
49. "`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
50. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.
1. But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
2. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
3. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
4. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;
5. if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
6. if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
7. and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men
8. (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--
9. if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.
10. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;
11. yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.
12. But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.
13. They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.
But there IS hope!!!
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
9. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
If you could NOT change, you would be in most pitiful shape...
A whole LOT of folks are 'getting away' with portraying Evil Good.
You Neanderthal's on FR are Haters, and Bigots and; worst of all; CHRISTIANS!!!
Why not?
Ezekiel 23:20
There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.
A man and a women were having window-rattling sex when the front door opened and a Male voice said, “Honey; I’m home!”
The man came thru the bedroom door and cried, “What’s SHE doing here?”
“Mommy” ......... LOL
“When i was 10 y/o my brother told me about homos and what they do.”
I was a Seminary student in the late ‘60s. A couple of my dorm friends put in a permission slip to rent an apartment off campus. One bedroom. One bed. The Dean Of Women would not approve, “due to the rising trend in homosexuality”. None of us had heard that word; none of us knew what it was. We looked it up. ewwww.
There was a more innocent time when people didn't think about homosexuality as an option. I remember mom saying back in her day, the boys were shy about dancing so the girls would couple up and dance. In her day, it was couple dancing, you know holding hands and one around someone's waist. They never thought a thing about it, never entered their head that anyone was "gay".
