The video is so damning that authorities promptly charged a South Carolina officer with murder.
In the footage, an African-American man, apparently unarmed, is seen running away from the officer. He gets several yards away before the officer aims his gun toward his back.
Eight shots later, the man falls to the ground. By that point, he appears to be at least 25 feet from the officer.

Notice how quick all the media is to use race in this instance, white officer kills black man. They NEVER use race like that when the roles are reversed, NEVER. This fits their agenda.
Yeah, he would have. Claim struggle for the taser, the perpetrator took it and was armed, he shot a fleeing, armed suspect. Police have gotten away with less.
Fortunately, I think that this was so blatant that nobody is going to be able to make hay on it. Even the police chief started crying when announcing it.
Fortunately the authorities were out in front of this, yes. Hopefully that will prevent this from becoming a national circus.
I don’t understand the taser being dropped close to the body. If there are no fingerprints on the taser how can the victim be implicated? Call me confused!

Story would have been that cop shot when the suspect was resisting. Of course, that would not have held water with bullets in the back. But, it was all the cop could come up with on the fly.

Where there is technology to alter a video, there is equal technology to tell if the video has been altered.
Well, for instance... if a suspect has shot random people... and the fleeing suspect is running towards a crowd of school children... then yes shoot him.
Where I am, it is legal for police to shoot a fleeing suspect or prisoner *if* they have reasonable or probable grounds to believe that person is a threat to others. Would be a tough case to make.
Which prompted my question...
Based on the beginning of the video, I think it's most likely that the victim did grab (or at least grab at) the taser at some point during the confrontation, but then dropped it (or it fell) and ran. So, his prints may well be on the taser. But, since "he was running away with my taser, and I shot him because he was a threat to others with my taser" is a stronger story than "he grabbed my taser, it fell, he ran and I shot the unarmed guy in the back," the officer moved the taser closer to the victim to make it look like the victim still had it when he was shot.
And it would have worked for the officer, other than that pesky video.
The victim may have thought the cop couldn’t hit anything from 25 ft away. Having seen cops shoot that would have been my bet, but I would not have run from the cops. Running for a broken taillight is stupid, there must have been another reason.
How would he have walked on self-defense when the guy was shot several times in the back?
I'm not so sure about that. An officer can shoot a fleeing suspect (even in the back) if he reasonably believes the suspect is a threat to the officer or others. If the suspect had the officer's taser, then the officer had an argument (and a pretty strong one at that) that the suspect was a threat to others. So, he put the taser near the victim to make it look like he still had it, thus justifying the shooting.
Remember, the officer murderer's attempted cover-up very nearly worked. The police department put out a statement after the shooting that essentially backed up the murderer, and, after the video came out, the mayor said that they would not have been able to "resolve" the situation without the video. Bullets in the back or not, without the video, the murderer would have gotten away with it.

If the fingerprints of the dead guy are on the taser, wouldn’t that be viewed as he stole a weapon from an officer? I’m asking honestly.
