President Barack Obama discussed his administration’s most recent foreign policy feat this weekend, saying the isolation of countries such as Iran does not always serve American interests.
In an interview with The New York Times, Obama said the deal with Iran that would allow it to develop nuclear energy while lifting sanctions is a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
“This is our best bet by far to make sure Iran doesn’t get a nuclear weapon,” Obama said in the interview published Sunday. “What we will be doing even as we enter into this deal is sending a very clear message to the Iranians and to the entire region that if anybody messes with Israel, America will be there.”
Obama also explained how his “let’s try” philosophy has impacted the United State’s relationship with other countries, like Burma and Cuba.
“You take a country like Cuba. For us to test the possibility that engagement leads to a better outcome for the Cuban people, there aren’t that many risks for us,” he told columnist Thomas Friedman in an interview that discussed last week’s Iran nuclear deal and other foreign-policy issues..
“It’s a tiny little country. It’s not one that threatens our core security interests, and so [there’s no reason not] to test the proposition. And if it turns out that it doesn’t lead to better outcomes, we can adjust our policies. The same is true with respect to Iran, a larger country, a dangerous country, one that has engaged in activities that resulted in the death of U.S. citizens, but the truth of the matter is: Iran’s defense budget is $30 billion. Our defense budget is closer to $600 billion.
”Iran understands that they cannot fight us. … You asked about an Obama doctrine. The doctrine is: We will engage, but we preserve all our capabilities,” he said to the Times.
Talking about the Iran nuclear deal, Obama said he takes Israel’s concerns about its safety seriously and that he is committed to ensuring the safety of the country and its people. The Iran deal has drawn the opposition of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others in Israel.
“What I would say to the Israeli people is … that there is no formula, there is no option, to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon that will be more effective than the diplomatic initiative and framework that we put forward — and that’s demonstrable.”
Friedman wrote that the president was more “emotional and personal” when discussing Israel than he’d heard before.
It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity... for him.

A perceived opportunity to effect a Final Solution and blame it on someone else doesn’t come along very often.
Think he said the same thing about the health care bill. This is taking the health care bill strategy to nuclear weapons negotiations. The man is certifiably insane. That has been demonstrated. All we need now is for Pelosi to tell the Israelis that we will have to sign the agreement, so that we can find out what is in the agreement. Or better yet, Israel will have to wait until the Iranian missile lands, before it can find out what is in it.
