Fox News Poll: Walker jumps to top of GOP field, Clinton emails 'bad judgment'
Fox News ^ | April 2, 2015 | Dana Blanton

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is the new frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination, while former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton easily maintains her lead among Democrats. And despite the personal email scandal, Clinton’s personal favorable number is still higher than the rest of the pack, according to the latest Fox News poll.

Walker tops the field for the Republican nomination with 15 percent among self-identified GOP primary/caucus voters. He’s followed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush who receives 12 percent, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 11 percent and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee each at 10 percent.

CLICK HERE TO READ THE POLL RESULTS

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul earns nine percent support and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio gets eight percent. All others receive four percent or less.

Support for Walker is up six percentage points over the nine percent he received from self-identified Republicans two months ago (when Mitt Romney’s name is removed from the January poll for an apples-to-apples comparison).

Cruz became the first major 2016 hopeful to announce his candidacy officially (March 23). He also gained six points since January.

The top three picks for those who consider themselves part of the Tea Party movement are Carson (21 percent), Cruz (18 percent) and Walker (16 percent).......

For the first time, Bush ties Clinton at 45 percent each in a hypothetical matchup. Clinton has the advantage over the other Republicans tested, topping Walker and Cruz each by 48-42 percent, Rubio by 47-43 percent and Paul by 47-45 percent.

Independents prefer the GOP candidate over Clinton in each case -- by as much as 15 points (Paul) to as little as one point (Cruz)....

Cruz is no Goldwater. He is a heck of a lot more charming and likeable for starters.
On a more serious note, whoever run against Johnson in 1964 was likely to lose because of Kennedy’s assassination. Cruz on the other hand, is running in part against a sitting president, Obama, who is by far the most divisive, lawless, arrogant, dishonest and anti-American in history, and likely running against a really corrupt, dishonest, unlikable Hilary Clinton. I just don’t see a creature like Hilary Clinton beating a charismatic great debater like Ted Cruz if Cruz should win the GOP nomination. Hilary Clinton is doomed to be beaten twice by a young 40 something first term US senator.

“Perry is an master at word and messaging”

Only makes him potentially the best at prevarication, and not necessarily good for any seat of leadership. Masters at messaging tailor the message to whatever he/she thinks an audience is longing to hear thus masking their real positions on any of the issues. Word and messaging is how the current dictator came into the office. I don’t want a slick message purveyor, I want someone whom I can believe.

But it was a red state that sent him to the Senate.
Who knows how he’ll fare in a national election?

*****************

Essentially it is two national elections. One the state
primaries and the 2nd the General.

In the General it will come down to which candidate can
carry those few states that can go either way. Many states
will be no contest as they are either in one camp or the other.

Just because I was looking at the list, here’s the states that were closest in 2012

Obama:
Florida
Ohio
Virginia
Colorado
Pennsylvania
Iowa
New Hampshire
Nevada
Wisconsin
Romney:
North Carolina

Holding NC, the closest EV route is to flip FL, OH, VA and CO - every state Obama won by less than 5%.

I have to agree with you that Cruz is no Goldwater. BaAuH2O was the first presidential candidate that I voted for, but it turned out to be a disaster. He was labeled as a Nazi unfairly. But the Biggest factor was not LBJ's popularity - which was not there - but the assassination of JFK. The country was not ready for a new President in 1964.

Today, however, despite the MSM’s leftist biases, the political landscape should favor the GOP candidate and a conservative one too. People are really upset with the current administration. It is not only Obama’s open hostility to our Constitution and our values, but the growth of power in DC and the use of the government agencies to advance leftwing values and punish opponents.

People are feeling the need to replace this administration with one which is pro-American [what a concept!]

Thanks. The list may change slightly each election but your list points out
the election is won by whom can carry enough of the swing state vote. With
a non-incumbent the mix may vary a bit. We’ll see.

Certainly not time to throw Walker to the wolves, but don't overstate his abilities.

Cruz not only fought the far left dems here in Texas, Cruz also fought the liberal GOP-E and their favorite, Dewhurst.

The GOP-E lost, but they love to fight conservatives.

Cruz not only had to fight Dems to win the seat, he also had to fight the good-old-boy Republican network. They are as or more nasty and mean than the Democrats.

I never vote out of fear. If it's not Cruz as President I will not vote that race.

But I certainly have no problems with Walker as VP. He's earned those stripes the hard way, and like Cruz, has a reputation for a reason.

There’s plenty of ‘ifs’. It needs to be a wave election. Just targeting Florida Jews or putting Kasich on the ticket to swing Ohio won’t help much.

Running a liberal to attract ‘swing’ voters is a failed strategy. Conservatives did not stay home in statistically significant numbers; the lib GOP candidate has not attracted the voters targeted by Rove, et al.

I was for Walker until he hired Liz Mair to be his social media guru and then had to fire her because of idiotic tweets she had sent just a few days earlier.

That got me to looking deeper into Walker and his positions on the issues, and I was surprised to discover that he has flip-flopped even more than Mitt Romney did.

Just one example — Walker, who had been opposed to ethanol mandates, flipped to supporting them just before he appeared in front of the Iowa Ag Summit.

The only GOP candidate honest enough to tell the Iowa corn farmers he opposes ethanol subsidies at the Summit? Ted Cruz.
