How does the Mormon community react when one Mormon tells lies about another Mormon and brags of the lie's success.
...a Temple recommend" which in short hand is a "Temple Mormon", of course all it takes to be a Temple Mormon and be in the temple, is to be a Temple Mormon. That is what I said. (Ansel12)
Well, you're both right. (I'm not sure what's there to argue).
I suppose somebody could argue if the Mormon hierarchy deliberately went about to set up "classes" of Mormons, but that's kind of beyond the scope of the discussion.
Ansel12 is right in that a "temple Mormon" is merely "shorthand" for somebody who has a temple rec.
And, yes, Vette, you're right in citing the "worthiness" and tithing and other covenant-keeping hoops bishops ensure their members have in order to be "temple eligible":
Per Mormon.org:
"The primary purpose of the temple is to provide a dedicated place where sacred ordinances needed for eternal life can be performed. Because of its sacred nature, attendance in the temple is limited to Mormons who obey God's commandments and therefore are worthy to enter.
What is the difference between attending a church and attending a temple?
Of course, the Mormon church leadership is often very selective as to which commandments are being kept to provide temple entrance.
And what people don't know is the Mormon teaching that only Mormons with temple recs are eligible to live forever with Heavenly Father (if you're married, that is).
And given the common estimate I've seen that only about 15% of Mormons have current temple recommends, and that not all of them are married, that slices about 99.9xx% of the world's population out of living forever with the Mormon man-become-god figure.
Yep, the mandatory turning over of 10% of your income, is probably the only real obstacle to the rest of the Mormons that keeps them out of the Temples.
They do. We got to “tour” the South Jordan temple when it opened in the mid 80’s.
Actually it is closer to 17% when you include all the other mandatory assessments.
(I don't deem about 8% as a "ton"; but yes, we can blame historic Mormons for settling Las Vegas itself...)
To my knowledge, the Catholic church employs no lay clergy. So I dont see where Nancy Pelosi could ( should she so desire ) to have any role of that sort.
Sure, they do. They have lectors, cantors, acolytes. And for more formal service, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops even has an entire FAQ laid out for ecclesiastical (lay) ministers:
So my analogy fits. (And no you failed in your attempt to discard it).
So I'll repeat it: Imagine the Roman Catholic church having Pelosi (or some rabid liberal proabortion Catholic pol) as a Lay Ecclesial minister.
I am not quite sure what you think I am failing to acknowledge?
Well, bottom line, you seemed to be saying, "Hey, the Mormons should have excommunicated Reid just like the Catholics re: Pelosi. But neither have. So we're looking at common grounds here."
I'm saying, "no, it's NOT common situation" because the Lds church has gone MUCH further to specifically and openly sanction Harry Reid than the Catholic church has Pelosi.
They kiss the liar’s backside and vote into office again and again.
Listen, I know Mormons are offered a verbal "sustaining" of some of its leaders (I'm pretty sure that does not include visiting home teachers).
You have to understand that even the verbal call to "sustain" a Mormon leader is essentially a verbal "rubber stamp."
If somebody disagrees with a given person, they are silent. (It's not like a "yes" and "no" vote -- and NOBODY...absolutely NOBODY...ever gets "rejected" by such a verbal call to "sustain" a given leader...It's essentially assumed that "the brethren" know what they're doing & they wouldn't even put a person in that position unless it was already directed by the gods-that-be)
There is also this.
“Do you sustain President Gordon B. Hinckley as Prophet, Seer and Revelator, and as the only individual holding the Keys of the Kingdom of God on the earth today?”
I have a Mormon neighbor and they are die hard leftists. They would not vote for Romney in the last election because they love Obama. I know people on Facebook who are Mormon and but will post negative items about Harry Reid.
For those on the left, leftist ideology trumps everything.
Actually, a mormon owned/operated bank supplied the $$$$ for the first casinos iirc
Per this article: Mormon LDS Temple Bishop Recommends:
The temple recommend is a cherished slip of PAPER that gives its holder the right to enter the LDS temple and participate in its ceremonies. Mormons pass stringent demands of dietary laws, tithing, sexual orthodoxy and others requirements for a temple recommend. These recommends are printed forms which, when filled out by the bishop, provides a copy for the Mormon church headquarters files, one copy for the wards records, and a third for the holder to present at entrance of a temple for admission. Since the church believes that one must be temple worthy in order to attain the Celestial Kingdom, having the power to grant or withhold recommends gives the local bishops immense power. Furthermore, in predominantly Mormon areas the lack of a recommend can often mean the loss of a job or being shunned by ones neighbors. These slips of PAPER are most valuable. 1 ... Having a temple recommend also serves as a status symbol, as those without it cannot marry or attend marriage ceremonies in the temple, nor can they be sealed for eternity with their father so that they may eternally be together with their family in Mormon Heaven.
Therefore, a piece of PAPER signed off by a Mormon lay bishop -- a position held at one time by Mitt Romney -- can determine if...
...a man gets to be sealed with his family forever in heaven...
...a person will be living with Heavenly Father forever -- or not...
...you can see your son or daughter get married (or other relatives and friends, for that matter)
...you'll become a "god" or not...
Now that's a powerful piece of religious bureaucratic paper!
They go to Mormon hell, which is on the bad side of Saturn.
:)
After federal and state taxes, you get to live on 40% of your earnings? Wow. It’s gonna be a couple of years before I could get into the temple.
I want to hear from a Mormon authority.
Is Harry Reid’s behavior consistent
with MORMONISM?
Both Reid and Romney received awards from BYU “fine examples of what/how mormons are”.
Joke right?
Totally untrue. Reid has a TR, home teacher, he is valued, not sure why you think Jack mormon.
“NOBODY...absolutely NOBODY...ever gets “rejected” by such a verbal call to “sustain” a given leader”
Well, it may not mean much to you, but if I was in that ward, I would not only raise my hand in opposition, I would stand while doing it. I’ve caused a few waves before and will probably do it again. Too many have become squishes. We need to change that.
What? BYU inviting Harry Reid to speak there in 2007 wasn't "authoritative" enough?
Actions don't mean anything?
